Fair play for women have developed a new leaflets regarding women's sports. We should all now share widely with anybody we know in any kind of sporting capacity so that we can get everybody talking about this if possible.

The time to speak is now and as we've seen from Public reaction to the Sporting issue public opinion is overwhelmingly in favour of keeping women sport for biological females only.

So glad they are talking about this.

Nobody has yet explained how any of this relates to amateur sports.

ChattyLion · 01/03/2019 20:51

Hooray! Great leaflet

OlennasWimple · 01/03/2019 20:57

I feel quite teary seeing my childhood sheros speaking up about this

Well done ladies Flowers

Any chance we can get Derek Redmond (Sharron's husband) out of retirement to compete in a women's tournament?

peanut2017 · 01/03/2019 21:10

Love it! Well done

MrsJamin · 01/03/2019 21:22

Nicola Adams too. I love her! Now we are getting into interesting territory with a woman sports star with advertising deals. Shit is getting real. Move over, McKinnon.

I saw this tweet from Gabby Logan the other day in response to the article by Jonathan Liew on transgender and intersex athletes:
twitter.com/GabbyLogan/status/1099449891187838978?s=19

Here's the text if it saves time checking the link:

I don’t think a twitter debate with you on this would be very helpful to anyone, but I would love to have a chat over a cup of tea about it. Maybe it’s because I am a woman, but I don’t see this the way you do.

Personally I can see why she thought this was a better approach than a big twitter pile on. Am very pro Gabby though. Liew replied he would like a discussion like that too.

Voice0fReason · 01/03/2019 22:39

Excellent leaflet and support from some amazing women.
RM is now complaining that Sharron is a transphobe!

Courday · 01/03/2019 23:34

Nicola Adams now. Fantastic.
We just need a couple of high profile men now to really get this debate opened up. Come on Andy Murray or maybe Chris Hoy, he will know all about cycling in particular. I have seen McKinnon suggest that their size puts them at a disadvantage - Chris Hoy never seemed to have a problem with this, in fact it was a distinct advantage.

BlueberriesOnAStick · 02/03/2019 00:00

What has Nicola Adams said? I've googled but can't see anything.

Manderleyagain · 02/03/2019 00:34

She replied to Sharon d retweeting the fpfw leaflet with 'sport needs to be fair regardless of gender. No exceptions!'. It was taken as positive support for what Sharon d was saying.

I really dislike the whole “why aren’t trans women winning the Olympics then?” and “show me an Olympic medalist”. It’s not just about elite level. It’s about the girls in Connecticut feeling like they have a fair shot at championships and scholarships. It’s about age group women who get up at 4am to fit their training around family and work knowing their final position is fair. It’s about all women and girls.

Datun · 02/03/2019 00:52

Exactly NotBadConsidering.

And if it's in schools and colleges now, there being be any female athletes going up the food chain.

Not to mention that the rules have only been in force since the end of 2015.

This will be the first Olympics where it will have any impact at all.

BlueberriesOnAStick · 02/03/2019 01:08

Oh yes, i've found it now (what nicola adams said). Thanks Manderleyagain

MhairiV · 02/03/2019 01:09

There isn't going to be a significant backlash on this until people see it on the biggest sporting stage(s) of the world, with their own eyes. The steady trickle of images of male shaped bodies alongside female shaped bodies will help pave the way though. The Fallon Fox v Tamikka Brents fight made me feel physically ill. And fucking furious too, of course. I just hope more women aren't seriously hurt in the course of making this point.

nettie434 · 02/03/2019 08:47

The podium pictures don’t exactly help the ‘there’s no advantage for transgender women’ cause. This is about a Dutch cyclist.
twitter.com/benwlv/status/1101529210399662081?s=21. She’s 44 and the other riders had an average age of 24. Only one person is smiling in the photo.

This is so heartening. Gives me strength and courage.

Lumene · 02/03/2019 09:18

Interesting body language in this pic.

BigotedWoman · 02/03/2019 09:24

That’s certainly #womenscyclingdonedifferently isn’t it Lumene?

NothingTraLaLa · 02/03/2019 09:27

Front and centre, as always.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/03/2019 09:32

I noticed this in that Twitter thread

road.cc/content/news/173121-transgender-cyclist-told-she-can-no-longer-compete-mens-events-despite-decades

It's from 2015, I wonder if this got sensibly sorted out ie Cameron allowed to race as male again?

Sexnotgender · 02/03/2019 09:35

All the women in that cycling pic look thoroughly fucked off, can’t imagine why...
