I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

@DebbieHayton
At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

The CPS Prosecutor got it from the judge. He was clear that the CPS had wasted time and money in pursuing this. Again, he said 'where is the evidence?'. The CPS needs to examine itself regarding this, it leapt on a 'hot topic'.

If I'm unable to get an article published then I will continue to release the court details here. I'm making a documentary regarding this issue and I filmed Miranda for it after the trial. However, there should be something in Mail on Sunday tomorrow with MY.

It's a whole new genre, 'literally fiction'.

Excellent - that did make me chuckle.

TowelNumber42 · 02/03/2019 09:43

I fear people are staying quiet because of threats of litigation.

The more cases come to court and get very publicly booted out with costs awarded the more people won't be intimidated by, say, a golf loving litigant and will just laugh at the so called lawyer. This is good. The self-policing needs to loosen right up.

LizzieSiddal · 02/03/2019 09:46

Looking at SH's tweets, that seemed to take pains to point out they sought a CIVIL injunction, am wondering if the civil route will be the next iteration for TRAs.

They’ve already tried that haven’t they? Linda Bellos was taken to court this year via a private prosecution. It was throw out of court too. Hope some else comes along who can remember the details better than me.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/03/2019 09:54

Who is SH?

Stephanie Hayden seems more measured here re:Harry the owl’s limerick that wasn’t actually a limerick but merely identified as one charade

Sonia Poulton has apparently been dropped from a BBC programme because of her tweets yesterday. Because she is GC other people wouldn't appear with her....

Fuck

Sonia Poulton

Just been dropped from
@bbcbigquestions
tomorrow. Booked to talk about intolerance & how 'hate' is used to silence people. Now I'm silenced. Producer 'didn't know why' but I told her. BBC remove gender critical voices from debate upon request. My court tweets worked against me.

I had already told the researcher that this would happen and she confirmed that 'Yes the BBC do remove GC voices if other guest refuses to appear with them'. I say remove the other guest not the one who is willing to talk.

some transgender women quite frankly look like... quote from SH. Isn’t that the type of comment that got Miranda in trouble?

beagadorsrock · 02/03/2019 09:58

Civil standard of proof: on the balance of probability there will be harm if the behaviour goes ahead/isn't stopped. Breach is not a criminal matter - so nothing goes on one's police record
I assume you need to prove that you will suffer some sort of financial loss (not just hurt feelings, but HR law is weird)

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 02/03/2019 09:59

Sonia Poulton being dropped needs it's own thread.
Typical BBC.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/03/2019 10:02

In which case the programmes need to kick a side and if they do have the sillies speaking note clearly and sensibly why there is no opposing side of the discussion.

Let them have their angry rants or ikkle girl whines. The public do need to hear them.

RockyFlintstone · 02/03/2019 10:03

Whhhhaaaaaattt?! Shock

Datun · 02/03/2019 10:07

Dear lord. I thought the BBC had already been publicly criticised for vetoing Nic Williams at the behest of McKinnon.

There are too many people watching now. This is not going to go unremarked upon.

This is a clear breach of BBC Editors standards. "refusal to make a contribution should not be allowed to act as a veto on the appearance of other contributors holding different views" (link: www.bbc.co.uk/editorialguidelines/guidelines/fairness/refusals-to-take-part )

Producer said 'we don't have time to have you on now'. I said 'nonsense, I knew this would happen after my tweets'. She said she didn't know if that was why the editor decided to cut me. I do - as I had it confirmed by the researcher that BBC knowingly do this. I was ready for it

We need to do something about the BBC. Any ideas? I've written. I know loads of us have, but it's not enough. We need to do something more.

EweSurname · 02/03/2019 10:13

Rachel McKinnon refused to do live radio with me last week when we were discussion trans inclusion in sport on Radio 4's PM, was given a pre-record instead. Even that is remarkably indulgent.

ofcom is the only thing you can really do.
The thing is, they've been doing this for decades, it's only because they've no longer got the monopoly on UK media you are now actually seeing it.

SharkBastard · 02/03/2019 10:19

Miranda will be doing a live Q&A about the case tonight on his YouTube channel if you want to tune in!

Knicknackpaddyflak · 02/03/2019 10:22

Maria Miller's Committee is keen to ensure that policies are written by-- framed with the help of pro-trans lobby groups.

This week's release on why ATH and NUS haven't acted yet re JB with key reasons being (to paraphrase) mental health, disabilities, lack of understanding, knowledge and skills - linked up with the inquiry into the Challoner debacle and that AC was not able to understand safeguarding (while going out advising national bodies on behalf of an LGBT organisation... words fail) - the evidence is now reaching teetering proportions that competency has to be considered as a very major issue. And so is due diligence from govt. departments.

RedToothBrush · 02/03/2019 10:28

Typical BBC.

Wanna bet it will be in the Sundays tomorrow now?

RedToothBrush · 02/03/2019 10:32

There are plenty at the telegraph and mail who want to end the license fee as it is.

EweSurname · 02/03/2019 10:35

Mail on Sunday were already going to do a piece on Miranda.

Now they’ll have even more material to work with.
