So what if trans women take over women’s sport?

Don’t know if this has already been copied but apparently if trans women did win all the trophies it would be a good thing.

How magnanimous of you to donate women's sports for TW validation, Mr. Man. Hmm

Fairenuff · 23/02/2019 13:47

Actually, I do agree with this bit because it's true and what we should be focussing on...

They’re coming for your medals and your trophies and your endorsement contracts. They’re coming, with their giant bulging muscles and enormous flapping penises, to ruin everything pure and good. Nothing will ever be the same again. Nothing means anything any more.

… apart from the word 'enormous' obviously.

NotTerfNorCis · 23/02/2019 13:50

If that story about the woman is the one I'm thinking of, she was one of the people speculating online that the McCanns had been in some way complicit in the disappearance of Madeleine. I'm not sure she contacted them directly. She killed herself in a hotel room after being outed on television.

hackmum · 23/02/2019 13:57

I'm enjoying the fact that he's being eviscerated, both on Twitter and the comments section of the Independent article.

But I feel a bit like Elinor in Sense and Sensibility, where Austen writes fo her meeting with her idiotic brother-in-law: 'Elinor agreed to it all, for she did not think he deserved the compliment of rational opposition.'

Liew's argument is so utterly, self-evidently stupid that we shouldn't bother ourselves with arguing with him, any more than we should argue with flat-earthers or people who think the moon landings were faked. The truly astonishing thing is that he's been given a platform in a national newspaper to share his brainless opinion.

hackmum · 23/02/2019 13:59

NotTerf - you're right, she didn't send them directly to the McCanns: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-31982088

Now100 · 23/02/2019 14:13

It reads very much as a Jeremy Clarkson click-bait article. If he is genuinely their chief sports writer then he should be worried about getting the sack for embarrassing The Independent with an utterly sexist article. He clearly isn't capable of reporting women's sports and doesn't consider fairness in sports important.

tobee · 23/02/2019 14:16

He'll probably get a pay rise and a fucking sports writers award. Probably in the women's writers category.

Lamaha · 23/02/2019 14:17

I hope some competent journalist picks the article apart sentence for sentence. It's a horrible pile of utter shite, easily contested.

Floisme · 23/02/2019 14:20

On his own Twitter thread he's written, I know less about this than trans people, so yes, I've listened to them a little bit.
(Sorry I can't screenshot at the moment, it's towards the end of the thread.)
No mention of talking to women.
This guy's had a almost a week to put this piece together. He 's chief sportswriter so presumably he knows where to get hold of Navratilova or Paula Radcliffe or Kelly Holmes. Or if no sportswomen wanted to go on the record, he could have asked why that might be.

Such a lazy, uninformed, unresearched piece of writing. How he has the nerve to identify as a journalist, never mind a chief sportswriter, is beyond me.

BettyDuMonde · 23/02/2019 14:27

Just another man, protecting the interests of men. So predictable.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 23/02/2019 14:34

women don't exist for him in any meaningful way, do they

doesn't matter if their sport is destroyed
doesn't occur to talk to any about the issue
dismissive of one of the greatest sportswomen there's been & lesbian icon, about a topic involving sports, women and lgbt matters...

Knicknackpaddyflak · 23/02/2019 14:43

It is an INSULT to the true victims of the KKK, past and present to compare...to the sheer evil atrocities of white supremists. I HATE from the bottom of my heart this comparison.

Me too. It's deeply, appallingly racist that a white, affluent Brit like McKinnon compares being disagreed with to the experience of black communities in the US south under the KKK. It's disgusting. But like much of the 'hyperbole' including death and rape threats, they're used to being as verbally violent and appropriative as they like and everyone just hand waving it away because either awww bless, or ffs don't make them kick off.

Also this:

NotTerfNorCis · 23/02/2019 14:48

They do equate gender criticism with racism.

When Glasgow Women's Library closed down a gender critical event, they issued a statement saying they didn't discriminate against women based on trans history or race.

As though gender critical feminists would refuse to recognise actual, biological women as women because of their race! The implication is that they would... it's an attempt to slur.

I am black/mixed race. I can't begin to say how much that comparison outrages me. Yet it has not been addressed yet by any of the MN defenders.

VickyEadie · 23/02/2019 15:24

On here, do you mean? It has, on this very page.

caroletaxi · 23/02/2019 15:28

Why not let transgenger sports people have their own competitions. That way they only compete with others of similar ability?

Lamaha · 23/02/2019 15:44

VickyEadle On here, do you mean? It has, on this very page.

No, I meant in any of the mainstream articles I've read.

Loulzze · 23/02/2019 15:46

Fgs you know what I meant, sport is (/was?) segregated by sex no not gender. Although it's not now is it because it is being grouped as genders. It'd be so simple if it was based purely on biologically male or biologically female, easy and fair

Loulzze · 23/02/2019 15:48

Sick of all this pc crap, you get pounced on for not using the specific correct word Hmm minefield

FeministCat · 23/02/2019 16:28

Really good point. What's to stop Russia, China or even America fielding male athletes in women's sports because they want a win? Once they start, others will feel they have to follow.

Nothing at all. We already know Germany was willing to coercively drug young girls with testosterone and steroids to groom them for the Olympics, to effect of lifelong health consequences for those women.

It is not at all a leap to see countries taking young boys and starting process for them to compete on world stage against girls and, in the future, women.

LizzieSiddal · 23/02/2019 16:28

I wholeheartedly agree.

It looks as though our own dear, non cheaty, whiter than white Team GB may have already done that in a European Championship prior to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Anyone who thinks that the UK never cheats is living in cloud cuckoo land IMHO.

Woah, steady on, McKinnon is Canadian.

East Germany. Not Germany.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 23/02/2019 17:46

yy good point UK ahead of the curve on this

penis news article "Until this year, rules governing athletics had prevented trans and intersex people from taking part in events based on a number of medical factors."

  1. conflate intersex and trans
  2. obvious nonsense as intersex people HAVE competed haven't they and we've seen years of headlines and toing and froing as a result

they just make iy up as they go along don't they
