Strictly speaking I suppose the categories are "open" and "open", but let's face it, no transmen are going to win anything in the "men's" (sic) category.

On the official viewing schedule they still designate the sports as "male/singles male/solo male/doubles male" etc or "female/singles female/solo female/doubles female" etc so it is misleading.

I am Canadian. These are being held in the province I have chosen to call home for many years. This is pretty appalling.

The comments I have read in news articles have shown a lot of people are peak-transing even if they don't know that is what they are doing - comments saying that this is absurd, delusional, gaslighting of the public. I know in one article on CBC it seemed EVERYONE agreed this was completely nonsensical and the end of women's sports.

I think a lot of people may not even be aware yet here of this policy (most I have spoken to aren't at least) but I do think a lot of people might hit peak trans when they start wondering why there is a bloke competing in the "female" judo competition or on the "female" gymnastics team.

If they recognize sex and gender are not the same thing, why are they letting people compete and LIVE in opposite sex housing depending on what gender they "identify as"?

It's going to be awfully easy for, say, Team Ontario to load their team of "female athletes" up with men who "identify" as female or as non-binary and wipe out any other team, etc.

I feel awful for the female athletes, who now get to share their sports and housing, and compete against, men who have decided play-acting as a female is a great way for them to win some medals. I am just hoping the peak trans comes from others seeing the absurdity, and not from, say, sexual assaults or anything else in the housing situations...

It amazes me how many men on social media or btl comments seem to think a kind of "I told you so" or "serves you right" position, when they hear how women's protections have been twisted and used against us to remove the very rights they were intended for, makes any fucking moral sense.

I should also add, that though this is a "Canadian only" event, it is seen as a pretty important step for many athletes towards the international stage. A proving ground of sorts.

It seems that only male categories are listed for boxing. So even though women's boxing has been in the Olympics for a while now, perhaps there's not much of a scene in Canada. So an ambitious girl might well be tempted to enter the effectively open male category, as there was none for her anyway, even before this new gender policy.

I hope that Transwomen win by miles in every category.

I can't wait to see trans women competing in rhythmic gymnastics...the one thing a real female athlete might still win...
