Firing Martina from Allies is working out to be an own goal as more people stand up and speak out on this.

We know how twitter works Hmm in regards to women speaking out so perhaps this thread could be a place to gather excellent quotes and pictures for people to spread across other platforms and show that Martina's views are shared not by a trickle of support but a tidal wave.

I feel in need of a very nice #TeamNavratilova picture to put on my fbook, any social media gurus around to advise?

India W does at least think for herself on trans matters, I'll give her that.

India has been attacked by the TRA extremists in the past, for her opinions.

I'm blocked by India W on Twitter because India W hates Mumsnet and I stood up for Mumsnet.

Glad to see India supporting Martina on this, along with other transwomen like Debbie Hayton.

Women have had to fight for decades for decent representation in sport - and we're still nowhere near actual equality. Allowing male-born people to just identity their way into women's sports will just devastate it. We're only just seeing the beginning now.

It's not just about medals - players like Hannah Mouncey are a danger to other female players - their sheer height and strength stands out like a beacon.

nauticant · 20/02/2019 16:27

If trans women had an advantage in sport, why aren’t trans women winning gold medals left, right & centre? Coz trans women don’t have an advantage.

As I wrote elsewhere, the lack of dolphin success in Olympic swimming events shows that dolphins do not have an inherent advantage over humans in their swimming abilities.

What's the tally with supportive sports women? We could do with more who are still competing. It's going to effect their livelihoods if TRA have their way not to mention everything they've worked for.

Juells · 20/02/2019 16:50

I don't understand why female athletes aren't boycotting events.

Did lily ever take up sport to spite us, or did they forget?

Seeing a tweet from L on why sports are transphobic would be great. I'm having a terrific day (really!) and so it would make me even happier.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 20/02/2019 16:52

Boy George signally fails to understand the difference between gender and sex.

tobee · 20/02/2019 16:53

Sadly boycotting the events would have less impact as there's a lot less money in women playing sports.

Callmejudith · 20/02/2019 16:54

I want Serena to back Martina - that would be epic

Perhaps this might help you to understand
4thwavenow.com/2018/04/15/surly-shirley-and-the-assault-on-womens-sport-then-and-now/
It will come, but it's going to take time, effort and a lot of support.

nauticant · 20/02/2019 17:03

Boy George is a bird of paradise. Often gorgeous to look at, there might be a lovely song or two, but you'd not expect much in the way of sensible analysis.

feelingverylazytoday · 20/02/2019 17:06

Boy George is a bit thick really, and probably means well. He probably has genderfluid/transexual friends, and doesn't equate them with the darker side of transactivism.

tobee · 20/02/2019 17:10

Bit disappointed Chris Evert is saying it's complicated. It really isn't.

katseyes7 · 20/02/2019 17:10

l was watching an episode of 'Botched' the other day. A MTF transsexual was seeing the doctors about having their previously botched breast implants corrected.
As the surgeon said "l can probably give you 85% of the 'look' you want. But as you were born male, your anatomy and physiology isn't the same as someone who was born female. The underlying anatomy of your chest is different, so the results won't be the same "
And he's absolutely right. No matter how good the surgeons are, the basic anatomy (ie, skeletal and muscular) is, and always will be, different to that of someone who was born female. A 'male' pelvis will be different to a 'female' pelvis, for obvious reasons. That and the underlying musculature would likely give someone who was born male a 'sports advantage' if they chose to compete, even after female hormones.

I want the @andy_murray to back #TeamNavratilova, that would be epic!

I hope more people speak up about the biological facts that make MTF trans in Women's sport unfair.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 20/02/2019 17:35

India is not happy

Bit disappointed Chris Evert is saying it's complicated. It really isn't.

I know, that's my initial reaction, too. But I think it's going to be fine.

It's a characteristic of transactivism that the smallest pushback or even questioning, generates the biggest pile on and backlash. And it's the pile on which does the peaking.

I've often thought if I were their PR department, I would tell them to ease up on the bullying and deluded assertions. But I have concluded that they are comprehensively unable to stop themselves.

Let Chris Evert dip her toe in the water. Because that tiny act will show her misogyny on a grand scale. And if there's one thing I think sportswomen know a lot about, it's sexism and misogyny.

BettyDuMonde · 20/02/2019 17:50

Evert is currently at base camp of Peak Trans Mountain. She’ll keep climbing!

Fairenuff · 20/02/2019 17:50

IW signalling to the TRA's 'don't attack me for agreeing with Martina'.

Good hedging of bets really until IW sees which way the pendulum swings.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 20/02/2019 17:55

India is a self serving wotsit. India sees the way the wind is blowing, but India doesn't give a fuck about women.

butteryellow · 20/02/2019 17:56

What I really love about Martina Navratilova's response is how it was so considered.

She had that first encounter, backed away and researched, and came back saying, yep, I've done my research and I was right.

Absolutely spot on, and, I note, absolutely not what most of these other twitter celebs have done - they just wade in spouting opinions without spending any effort to actually read and research first.

RockyFlintstone · 20/02/2019 17:56

I still think that India just thinks that sports aren't for 'real laydees' like her anyway, which is why she is on Martinas side on this.

OvaHere · 20/02/2019 17:57

Bit disappointed Chris Evert is saying it's complicated. It really isn't.

Yes, she's retweeted FPFW so she will get there. Like many she will be in the trying hard to be kind phase.

Someone who according to their bio is a 'proud mother of 3 boys', now presumably all adult or near to it, will know exactly how much bigger and stronger males are from around 13 onwards.
