Julia Long asking Munro Bergdorf about child exploitation

happydappy2 · 19/02/2019 13:27

Julia Long was asked to leave the venue, after asking MB if it was normal that an 11yr old child dancing in front of adults, has money thrown at them by grown men. This was at Transmission & was deemed an offensive question....video footage on twitter of the incident.....worth a watch, sorry I can’t link to it but hope someone else can.

I can see the see-through dress clearly if I watch it full screen on a desktop. It looks scratchy and uncomfortable and I doubt it has decent pockets.

To be fair, I think this was a fashion event and they very rarely feature clothes most women would wear.

littlbrowndog · 20/02/2019 19:15

He’s 11 years old ffs.

So shocking

The crowd booing
A 11 year old should be playing not amusing guys in a night club ffs

Guys who know it's a sexualised place, because they fuck other guys there. Apparently a few men have come out and said it was wrong. Because it's a sexualised place and this is what happens there.

The BBC et al learned their lesson very well from Savile.

They learned that you can openly groom and abuse children in plain sight and as long as you ignore, misrepresent and intimidate anybody who speaks up against it. They learned that the power structures will not hold them to account, will not force them to change their behaviour and will happily support them in the gaslighting of the pooulation, as long as the powerful get to do what the powerful want to do.

None of this is accidental. It’s not that they are naive or ignorant of the ramifications. They want children to be openly groomed and for the masses to whoop and cheer as it’s being done.

WeRiseUp · 20/02/2019 20:09

The link in the op is really late into it.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/02/2019 20:16

All I think of is Savile.

Hiding in plain sight.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 20/02/2019 20:31

The interview with Desmond is interesting. I wonder if there's a taped version, because he seems to me an extraordinarily eloquent child...

It's such bollocks and it's wrong.
Well done Julia

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/02/2019 20:50

What will happen when he is older - too old for his audience. They want to watch a kid dancing in drag not a gangly teen or hulking bloke.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 20/02/2019 20:53

What will happen when he is older - too old for his audience.

He will be tossed aside when he gets to about 13 or 14 like Michael Jackson's friends were.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/02/2019 20:56

Worse will come. More outrageous, more camp, more edgy, closer to the line...

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 20/02/2019 22:01

Thanks for the thread. Brave woman

Has anybody got a link to the interview Bergdorf did with Desmond and his mother? I haven't read it yet.

I've watched a few videos of this child and to me, he comes across as heavily coached, rather than articulate.

The little speech he does - variations of 'be yourself, always, and pay the haters no mind because they're not as fierce as you' - he gabbles it like a small child who has learnt his times tables or the lord's prayer by rote.

I don't think he will be cast aside when he reaches his teens. There are plenty of men who prey on teenage boys Sad

vaginafetishist · 20/02/2019 22:32

It is similar in some ways to the child antique 'expert' who was being exploited by his parents.

PencilsInSpace · 20/02/2019 23:00

Yes, Lauren Harries (formerly known as James Charles Harries)

Am I allowed to post that? It's a direct quote from Wikipedia which still gives both names.

As with any other wiki article, the talk tab is where it's at.

Vixxxy · 20/02/2019 23:55

I am quite concerned by the moderating decisions here. I get that MN are walking a tightrope..but it really does seem that the reporting system is being used in a very manipulative way, and this is being accepted.

If someone posted say, a daily mail story on AIBU, that used derogatory language, or even just something that upset another poster (or lets be real..those who report FWR dont actually post..so a lurker) would the story be removed? As I see a fair amount of posts in that section that piss me off a bit so I could easily be an arse and report them all. Not that I would, of course. But surely with that 'rule' its possible for a hell of a lot of posts/threads to be edited/removed?

PencilsInSpace · 21/02/2019 00:03

I've just been down a James / Lauren Harries rabbit hole and have ended up watching a video of onstage in a club.

I feel sick.

PencilsInSpace · 21/02/2019 00:10

I think Harries is a vulnerable adult and is still in need of the safeguarding that was never there.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 21/02/2019 00:16

TBH, at this stage, I'm wondering why you wouldn't expect to see angry, unguarded language when AWAs are gleefully supporting child exploitation and disregarding any notion of safeguarding leaving vulnerable children open to abuse.

I'm astounded that Mumsnet would give any quarter whatsoever to people who care more about 'civililty' than they do about protecting kids.

There's a point in this where maintaining neutrality becomes support for the unspeakably awful. MNHQ are sailing pretty bloody close to the wind on this one.

Heavily coached is exactly what it is. Such obvious bullshit. It's deeply disturbing.

Harris seems very vulnerable.

Especially supported by convicted paedophiles such as Max Clifford. Grim.

"Allowing your son to dress up as a character and perform in a venue that was completely legal for him to perform in is not child abuse. It was not child exploitation, because we did not force him to perform; performing is what he enjoys doing, much like a kid that dances or does theatre. Any money he makes goes into his trust account, which we cannot access." Says mum Wendy.

Hmm
LuggsaysNotaWomen · 21/02/2019 09:09

Poor Harris has been pimped about like a side show freak for a goood portion of their lives. They were not safeguarded as a child and as others have said, they are clearly a vulnerable adult and are not being safeguarded now either.

Desmond is both being groomed and being used to groom society at large. Once his usefulness has expired, he will be dropped like a hot potato and he will be left in “child fame purgatory” as so many others have. The likelihood of him developing mental health and/or addiction problems is super high.

She’s just willfully missing the point, isn’t she. Well I hope he makes a fuck ton of money then because The Priory is expensive.

HotpotLawyer · 21/02/2019 09:16

Unless the dates are wrong it looks as if Harries’ surgery was when she was 13?

That can’t be right, surely, even by Max Clifford standards?

So sad, taken to a Dr as a child because he was ‘effeminate’. And I wonder about the child prodigy nature of the antiques obsession and detailed knowledge.

LangCleg · 21/02/2019 09:26

Given the state of the comment sections on Fail articles, this would mean no Fail links could ever be allowed.
