Sally Challen Appeal 27/02/19

Just to remind everyone that Sally's appeal will be heard on 27 and 28 February at the Royal Courts of Justice. Her son David has been campaigning tirelessly about her case and the appeal was put back, having originally been due to be heard before Christmas.

Fingers crossed that she is freed and that society wakes up to the realities of coercive control and what it does to people.

It has been such a long wait for David and his brother James.

I hope they get their mother back.

Socrates11 · 17/02/2019 14:00

So important the law recognises coercive control. Hope Sally gets the justice she has been denied. Will be following with interest.

feministfairy · 17/02/2019 14:18

This is a really important case. Her sons have been such a great support to her - their testimony is damning about their father.

Qcng · 17/02/2019 14:28

I hope justice is served.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 14:38

I hope so too. I can't go there to offer support as I have to work, but I will be following on SM.

I am a family member. Can I please encourage you to join the Justice For Women protest in support of Sally outside the Law Courts on the Strand on the morning of 27 February. Sally is 64, and not a danger to anyone. Keeping her locked up for a minimum of another 10 years makes no sense. David and James, her sons, need her back in their lives. The original court case just didn't paint a fair or full picture and the jury came to their decision without knowing about the long term abuse, and its effect on Sally. It's time that was put right.

ScipioAfricanus · 17/02/2019 15:26

Do you know what time the protest will be?

SupportingSally · 17/02/2019 20:54

9.30am. Of course, you can come into Court, too, to listen/support by our presence.

Funkyfunkybeat12 · 17/02/2019 21:15

SupportingSally I really wish I could be there. I hope with all my might that her appeal will be successful and that she will be home with her sons soon. What a horrible ordeal she has had after the years of abuse from her husband. I hope the court sees sense.

Thanks. We hope for the best too.

ScipioAfricanus · 18/02/2019 15:21

I have an appointment later but I hope I shall be able to come and be present at 9.30 even if only for a short time. Thanks for letting me know.

SupportingSally · 18/02/2019 16:38

Great.

Socrates11 · 19/02/2019 00:28

Hope you get loads of support. I'm working (don't live in London either) but I'll be with you in spirit. This really needs to come good for Sally.

OrchidInTheSun · 27/02/2019 12:41

It's today! Huge amount of press and lots of people there.

This will be a watershed if her appeal goes through in recognising coercive control.

Would be great if we could get David (Sally's son) in for a web chat.

LizzieSiddal · 27/02/2019 12:42

Thinking of you all and especially Sally. We hope justice is done.

failingatlife · 27/02/2019 22:32

Just saw this on tv news. I truly hope Sally and her sons get justice tomorrow and can move on to some happiness.

failingatlife · 27/02/2019 22:35

It was good to see such a large crowd out in support of Sally outside the court too.

TheCuriousMonkey · 27/02/2019 23:06

I saw one of Sally's son's interviewed on C4 news earlier. His dignity and intelligence in the face of such a terrible series of events were breathtaking. I wish him and Sally, and her other son, all the very best for tomorrow.

Processedpea · 28/02/2019 15:16

this is hard to wait for...

Processedpea · 28/02/2019 15:17

a retrial!

OrchidInTheSun · 28/02/2019 15:23

I'm absolutely delighted her murder conviction has been quashed. Her children have been remarkable in their relentless pursuit for justice. She must be so proud

OrchidInTheSun · 28/02/2019 15:25

I see the Beeb is still calling her 'hammer killer wife'. Angry

McTufty · 28/02/2019 15:45

Brilliant news!

beeyourself · 28/02/2019 15:47

Fantastic news! Pity she's not been bailed or released automatically though.

Fallingirl · 28/02/2019 15:57

Does anyone know how long the retrial would realistically take? Is she facing several years mire in prison?
