It’s about pp changing their gender identity on C4 now

How did these types of people be themselves before cross sex hormones and cosmetic surgery?

2rebecca · 11/02/2019 22:51

Not watched it yet but I never understand how they can say they are "being their authentic self" and then have plastic surgery hormones voice and mannerism coaching etc. It is more like a never ending cosplay.
Your "real self" is the body you were born with.

Destinysdaughter · 11/02/2019 22:53

So the beautiful young woman has lost her relationship but feels happier in themselves because they superficially look like a guy?

Wow

I started a similar thread in television, I think.

Cairo is very similar to an anorexic, I think. Simon's wife deserves a bloody medal. Vicky (?) is another who is totally selfish - it's clear their family don't have much money but Vicky is spending thousands on a visit to America, while admitting they've done no practice on their voice, and involves their children in something like this which is clearly confusing them.

HollowTalk · 11/02/2019 22:54

Cairo will never look like a guy. Their eyebrows and cheekbones will always stop that.

HollowTalk · 11/02/2019 22:55

"That great city that belongs to me." Not to us. To me.

HollowTalk · 11/02/2019 22:56

It's all to do with the way they look, isn't it?

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 11/02/2019 23:08

That was just three people who were obsessing about their appearance spending great amounts of money trying to pretend to be something that they're not. I didn't see anything there that would change my opinion of the fact that the whole ideology is a nonsense and very selfish and self obsessed.

HollowTalk · 11/02/2019 23:16

Does Jackie expect her wife to be lesbian now?

Italiangreyhound · 11/02/2019 23:44

Debaser12 "... wants to be a man because she doesn't like the attention she gets as a beautiful woman. It's almost like a form of self harm."

Yes, that really stood out for me.

Justhadathought · 11/02/2019 23:55

We've got two strands here: one one hand gay men and women; and older male transvestites. The advent of modern surgical techniques and the self interest of the big pharmaceuticals is what is behind all of this. It is clear from many testimonies that children who go on to be gay or lesbian have always entertained the idea that they may be the opposite sex when young, but mostly go on to identify as what they really are.

You cannot change sex. This programme makes this totally obvious - no matter the kindness of friends or colleagues.

Justhadathought · 11/02/2019 23:58

Trans men can 'pass' more easily than trans women - given long periods on testosterone. In fact, they can look like very beautiful boys/young men. But thisn doesn't disguise the fact that they aren't boys or men, though.

So much sacrifice in the personal realm, and for what?

jeaux90 · 12/02/2019 07:35

My heart went out to all of them. Them and their families and loved ones.

Honestly I didn't think the way they interacted with people was as I expected. They seemed almost too sure and disassociated from the impact.

Well made apart from there was no challenge to the participants but I guess that wasn't the intention.

The divorcing of words from their definitions continues

The Making of Me, anyone watching?
BettyDuMonde · 12/02/2019 10:31

I wonder if Simon’s wife would’ve been allowed 17 grand from the family budget to spend on cosmetic surgery? That was just the facial work, the breast implants and the GRS were separate.

It really struck me that at their vow renewal she was looking at her husband and her husband was looking at the guests, looking at his new look. Seemed very autogynephilic, frankly - more a showing off as a bride than a public recommitment to a loyal partner.

(They have stayed married so he legally remains a husband and a ‘he’ in law - I really struggled with how to phrase this so it made sense but concluded the legal position is easiest to understand)

Debaser12 · 12/02/2019 10:43

As per that twitter comment screen shotted -

If your matching your sex as you already are that sex, then why do you need surgery and hormones. Surely a true transwomans would just be a woman with the biology of a man. By that mentality she is already a woman (penis, testosterone, deep voice and all) and so she shouldnt need to change physically to be a woman. She is one.

2rebecca · 12/02/2019 22:26

Just watched it and I agree there is no logic to it. The irony of your "true self" requiring loads of plastic surgery voice coaching and tons of make up seems lost on them. I really hope the NHS stops funding this. Why should men get plastic surgery to feminise their faces and have the breast they want when women who are unhappy and want to look like more attractive women can't? Either we should all get free plastic surgery to look like our ideal person or none of us should. Why should you only get it if your ideal person is of the opposite sex?
I do feel that Caira went in to the sexualised world of modelling too young and reacted against the creepy older male attention by turning her back on her femaleness. Sad. She could have just gone down the butch lesbian route and abandoned the superficial modelling world.
They seem nice if self obsessed people but it's all so shallow and narcissistic

FlyingOink · 12/02/2019 22:55

That's the million dollar question isn't it?

OldCrone · 13/02/2019 00:21

How much of this is done on the NHS? In the programme Simon was definitely in a private hospital, and I think it was mentioned that Cairo was saving up for a mastectomy. Not sure about the other person featured.

I don't see how the NHS can justify paying for what is essentially cosmetic surgery.

Debaser12 · 13/02/2019 09:24

Agreed, a lot of biological women have masculine features their not happy with, they can't get surgery on the NHS.

Look how much hate that girl got a few years back for getting a boob job on the NHS because she had no breast tissue.

If a transwoman is already a woman, the surgery is just making them a more feminine attractive woman. So it should not be NHS funded. Vanity is not NHS funded for the rest of the population.

FlyingOink · 13/02/2019 11:09

Vanity is not NHS funded for the rest of the population.
I hate the idea that vanity becomes something much more grave and serious when accompanied by suicide threats. It's emotional blackmail, often by people who swap notes online on what to say to tick all the boxes.
I have sympathy for anyone who is genuinely suicidal of course. I just hate it being used as a threat by manipulative people.

HelenaDove · 14/02/2019 02:14

i recognize that ABBA song. Poor Julie.

Italiangreyhound · 18/02/2019 23:45

Anyone watched tonight's episode?

CandidPeel · 18/02/2019 23:55

Yes. I wanted to invite Marie over here!

And when the doctor said to Jay (the detransitioner) "this rarely ever happens" Shock

I see (on Twitter) Joanne has a new business as a diversity and inclusion advisor.

HairyPotter · 19/02/2019 00:21

My heart goes out to Marie, I do hope she finds happiness after all this. As for Scott/Emma, what a petulant spoilt brat. I was agog at the demands to have his parents remove all the family photos to play along with his fantasy.
