Natwest bank possibly closing account of Fair play for women

Does anyone know if this is really true? Apparently TRAs have targeted the bank & complained about them letting FPFW bank with them... so are considering closing their account.

Natwest need to think about this carefully!

What happened with Ocado?

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/02/2019 19:18

NatWest, should you be reading this... I have accounts with you. All will be closed if you close FPFWs account.

Get woke, go broke indeed

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 09/02/2019 19:22

Appreciate the reminder to donate to FPFW Smile

As per link, basically. They tweeted support for Harrop's flounce that got Posie Parker's dictionary definition poster removed.
So hundreds of women cancelled their accounts.

ToeToToe · 09/02/2019 19:39

No surprise at all to see that the Mars person is at it again on Twitter. That person is always either attacking legitimate women's groups or posting selfies of their arse.

FPFW don't seem too bothered - "water off a duck's back" - but sometimes I wish they'd sue for defamation.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/02/2019 19:46

I thought they got banned.

Here’s the potted summary of the Ocado incident:

Oops, I see Oink has beaten me to it!

Natwest bank possibly closing account of Fair play for women
PencilsInSpace · 09/02/2019 20:03

How helpful of that 'girl from mars' ... person to remind me that I had been meaning to send Fair Play For Women a donation. I never realised that Paypal took 10% so with that useful knowledge in mind I have donated directly to their Natwest bank account.

Here is their donation page Smile

I notice that Dr Nic is also seeking individual support as she has been working tirelessly for FPFW for 12 months now without pay.

Patreon

PayPal

The girl from mars person also appears to be targetting Transgender Trend, I'll donate to them next month.

ToeToToe · 09/02/2019 20:04

"Ooh untag me from this shitstorm I've just totally initiated" ??

Riiight. Leave women's groups alone Mario Kate.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 09/02/2019 20:06

It won't happen, NW won't close the account, but imagine the publicity and new influx.of supporters of it did.
People who know nothing of the group finding out about it in the times.

It's like when they send people here.

rocketromano · 09/02/2019 21:04

Aargh these companies bowing down to narcissists its sooo ridiculous! Angry

NoseringGirl · 09/02/2019 21:08

Is there any chance this is a standard response from NatWest and nothing will actually come of it?

Datun · 09/02/2019 21:36

I read on here that 'hate groups' are only designated such if they fulfil specific criteria. There is an official UK list apparently.

So yes it's slanderous or libellous, whichever it's called.

Plus FPFW are uber respectable.😇

And I just want to point out to any official NatWest lurkers, that this site has 12 million unique users per month, and this board is the most popular. And the most likely to take action. So watch your manners.

And yes, it would be a bit of a gift, wouldn't it 🤣

ToeToToe · 09/02/2019 21:36

Hopefully so, NoseringGirl.

Mner2019 · 09/02/2019 21:45

Get woke, go broke awesome. I have a savings account with NatWest that I will be looking forward to closing if they close FPFW’s

OlennasWimple · 09/02/2019 21:58

I assumed that NW's response was a clumsy shorthand for "Thanks for the report, we will look into your concerns and consider whether we should take any action", rather than "Gosh you're right, we'l get on with closing their account right away"

In any case, I guess NW might well have their own T&Cs and standards that they apply to customers, but I would bet a lot on it being "we will give you an account unless we are legally prevented from doing so". There are a number of organisations that have been proscribed by the UK (and other countries, such as the US), and I believe that banks are not allowed to provide them with facilities and services. They are basically terrorist and extremist organisations, and there has to be substantial evidence against them for the government to take this step in law of proscription. I can't find any definition of "hate group" in UK law (but am not a lawyer, so may have missed something - happy to be corrected)

www.gov.uk/government/publications/proscribed-terror-groups-or-organisations--2

If Mario Kate has evidence about FPFW that suggests that they reach the threshold for proscription, they should send it to the Home Office and the security services for their consideration. If not, they should stop libelling a women's lobbying organisation because they don't like what they are doing.

Natwest have just tweeted this:

At NatWest we always ensure to internally investigate anything flagged to us regardless of its content, however we would not be able to provide any further information. Apologies for any confusion cause by our initial response. ST

In other words bog off. Excellent.

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/02/2019 01:16

This will be interesting. Go woke, go broke indeed.

FoldyRoll · 10/02/2019 02:00

As if Nat West would do anything other than dash off a standard response to the initial tweet. 14 RTs and 58 likes is about as viral as a dead slug. There is no PR in it. No one gives a shiny shite what these eejits think, not even the stunning and brave crowd.

Weezol · 10/02/2019 02:43

Meh. While I've not worked in banking for a while, I can confidently say that this complaint will be treated at the appropriate level of urgency it demands.

We used to have a special file for things like this - light relief for when the markets tank or to be discreetly shared during quarterly target reviews.

PerspicaciaTick · 10/02/2019 04:28

As NatWest firmly resisted protests attempting to force them the cease business ties with Huntingdon Life Sciences (despite offices being attacked and staff members targeted), I hope they take a similarly robust view of these protests.
