Members attending this year’s RCN Congress in Liverpool will vote on a number of important resolutions that will look to improve health and life chances for many vulnerable people.
The resolutions proposed include lobbying governments across the UK to decriminalise prostitution, end period poverty and invest resources to deal with rising child poverty...

A band 5 NHS nurse will make 23,000 p.a. So under £100 a day

An agency nurse by comparison in London can be billing at £300 a day.

In a brothel a nurse can take home more in a shift from 11am to 7pm on her day off than she will make all week in her nursing job and tax free.

She more than doubles her income whilst managing to stay affordable for the NHS to employ.

As well as NHS nurses you have 10,000s of nursing home nurses also doing sex work just to survive.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 03/02/2019 20:53

Iolar one has to wonder why the women are bothering with nursing at all when they can earn far more money for far less hours in these lovely all female cottages.

When you say 'by women for women'. You actually mean 'for men'. Though don't you. The clients aren't women are they???

NothingOnTellyAgain · 03/02/2019 20:54

'She more than doubles her income whilst managing to stay affordable for the NHS to employ.'

Kind of an implication here that nurses should work as prostitutes rather than getting more nurse pay, for the good of the NHS!

OK right.

IfNotNowThenWhy · 03/02/2019 20:59

I make less then 23k. Should I be selling my arse then? It sounds idyllic, you for women brothel. Nice ad. But lolar you missed out the part about having to let strange smelly men violate my intimate parts repeatedly. So I think I'll pass.

Such fantastic news and real progress. The leader of the opposition has come out in favour of the Nordic model.

This is real progress. Sarah Champion and Jess Phillips must have been instrumental in explaining why this model is needed to Jeremy Corbyn who had previously voiced support for full decriminalisation. Full decriminalisation legally favours the corporate prostitution industry (pimps and buyers) over the safety and dignity of the women who end up in prostitution.

The Nordic model is the name for a legal approach to prostitution where the woman (or man) selling themselves for sex is decriminalised and is not prosecuted. Support services are provided for people leaving prostitution. Pimps, brothel owners and buyers who make money out of or buy women for sex are criminalised.

This model is in use in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Canada, France, and Ireland. Rates of trafficking drop when the model is implemented as it reduces the demand for buying women for sex.

Provides me with more assurance that I did the right thing by leaving the RCN 8 years ago.

Popchyk · 03/02/2019 21:28

I can see some flaws in the 'three ex-nurses working as maids' model.

Rather than nurses having to work at two different premises (brothel and hospital), why don't we have a single-centre service? It is 2019 people, get with the programme. A one stop shop for brutality and debauchery.

Pimps and punters should set up in the waiting room or day room of the hospital and the nurses can get violated between caring for patients. Hell, they can get violated while they are caring for patients. That would be priced up at a premium service of course.

Female patients will also have the opportunity to be penetrated in order to earn some pin money. Might as well fill the hours when you are recovering from operations, right? Totally empowering. And you're always earning.

Advantages

  • We can totally cut out the overheads for the ex-nurses working as maids in tiny cottages. That gives each working nurse more, errrmmm, bang for their buck.
  • Medical staff on hand for when the punters get a bit carried away with their abuse
  • Cuts down on commuting times between the two premises, enabling those nurses to maximise the number of punters that they can service and therefore increase their pay
  • Constant demand from the large number of punters working in and visiting the hospital.

Disadvantages

  • Large scale redundancies for the tens of thousands of ex-nurses working as maids in brothel cottages

Hmmm. It is a quandary.

GoGoGadgetGin · 03/02/2019 21:32

And yes pop who then needs the crappy 8 hrs of 11-7 of being violated or managing the off duty, in fact you will always be on duty! How wonderful and progressive.

Iolar · 03/02/2019 21:50

So what is your answer to low wages for nurses? The government ministers, heads of NHS trusts repeatedly keep their wages at barely subsistence levels. Tax payers are just not willing to pay extra to bring these predominantly women workers above the poverty line.

Nordic model is a middle class utopia. In reality it will cause more harm to women but perhaps like prohibition we need time to watch it play out.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 03/02/2019 21:54

Yes the answer is pay them more obviously

Which the RCN of all people should be pushing!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 03/02/2019 21:55

Loads of men get paid less than 23k

No one expects them to sell their arses

Especially not their unions

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/02/2019 21:59

So what is your answer to low wages for nurses?

well it's not making it easier for men to buy sex

funny that

birdsdestiny · 03/02/2019 22:00

Strangely enough my answer to low pay for nurses has never been that they should be wanked into. What have I been thinking?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/02/2019 22:00

the idea that a goddamn UNION would accept that their members should prostitute themselves rather than campaign for better pay

jesus

Iused2BanOptimist · 03/02/2019 22:01

As well as NHS nurses you have 10,000s of nursing home nurses also doing sex work just to survive.

I just don't hear the best gossip in the staff room. 🤭😲😂

Mycathatesme · 03/02/2019 22:08

Lolar, I think you might be making stuff up in your head then typing here.

Iolar · 03/02/2019 22:14

Google it. You will find that NHS nurses and nurses in the care sector make up a disproportionately high percentage as sex workers.

They get ...... by their employers and the public at large who want them on the cheap. They then get ...... by male punters. You want to deny them basic rights and protection and to strip them of their chance of escaping poverty.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/02/2019 22:18

You want to deny them basic rights and protection and to strip them of their chance of escaping poverty

where did anyone say that?

I don't think basic rights and protections for women are best achieved by making it easier for men to buy sex

how would that help?

Mycathatesme · 03/02/2019 22:25

The only study I can find that reflects this is a self-selecting sample of 240, so it looks like this information had been taken and conflated into 10,000s See also transgender and suicide attempts.

Ifonlyus · 03/02/2019 22:39

I wonder if they make up the largest group because their shift patterns allow them more ease to do so. A bit like many men in the fireservuce and police service have second jobs. Their shift patterns more easily facilitate it. Not necessarily that they're paid too little ( although I do support nurses being paid more for what they do) compared to others who earn less and don't have second jobs or turn to prostitution.

Ifonlyus · 03/02/2019 22:41

I absolutely think nurses should be paid more for the job they do. I will not accept that they are impoverished compared to the wages many women get.

adultFemaleElf · 03/02/2019 22:48

lolar are you on glue

dangerrabbit · 03/02/2019 23:12

@popchyk great idea. Will the punting services be available on the NHS? Is that what the £350M will be going on after brexit? Can we expect to see Boris at a grand opening of this brothel-hospital concept soon?

It really isn't, and you clearly wouldn't know reality if it jumped up and bit you.
