Warwick Lecturers write letters of condemnation

Some of the lecturers at Warwick University have written letters condemning the early reinstatement of the vile little scumbags who sent misogynistic and racist messages about women.

This is the first one, but apparently there are more to follow. Will post as I see them.

Thanks Bernard I'll post on other forums so people can get involved.

These were immature young men who posted absolutely vile stuff indicative of huge misogyny, but I don't personally believe they really were going to gang rape anyone

Sorry, call me humourless but I just don't understand jokes about rape.

Do men actually mature out of thinking that inflicting suffering on a woman is funny?

Dyrne · 02/02/2019 15:18

Repeating Jimmy Carr or Frankie Boyle style jokes is an example of something massively distasteful, but not necessarily worthy of disciplinary action.

What these men did were issue rape threats against named women - in many cases their flat mates and friends. Not ‘even’ crude sexual remarks; but outright threatening to rape them and joking about mutilating their genitals.

Even if it’s not a crime, I fully support the victims and completely agree that they have the right to finish their education without having to worry about meeting these men on campus.

One of the men even talked about performing sexual acts with an underage girl - not sure why he’s getting a free pass for that?

FlawedAmazon · 02/02/2019 15:44

And more than 42,000 people are agreeing with us. They're very angry.

The petition is well on the way to 50,000 signatures. I hope Warwick are shitting themselves over this.

Ofitck · 02/02/2019 17:32

It has echoes of the Pamplona wolf pack, only their group chat only cane to light after that had gang raped and beaten a teenager during the San Fermin festival. This should be taken extremely seriously.

I’m a Warwick grad and will be stopping my donation

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 02/02/2019 23:16

Over 50,000. Good.

FlawedAmazon · 03/02/2019 00:07

I'm sitting here watching the numbers still going up. So glad that so many people are angry about this.

OP posts:
loveyouradvice · 03/02/2019 16:21

how could anyone NOT sign? And really glad to see the numbers rolling up fast.... 58,000 so far... aiming for 75,000. If that doesn't make the uni realise what they are doing, what will?

loveyouradvice · 04/02/2019 16:56

Shamelessly bumping - DO SIGN.......

Dyrne · 04/02/2019 18:19

Apparently the 2 that has the original longer bans are “no longer returning” to Warwick. Sadly, it sounds like that was more due to the mens’ fear of reprisal rather than the University displaying any sort of leadership of care for their female students...

Nettlescoop · 04/02/2019 18:28

Exactly Dyrne

PreseaCombatir · 04/02/2019 18:44

I didn’t even hear about this at the time.
I’m utterly disgusted, and have signed and shared the petition

FlawedAmazon · 04/02/2019 19:39

More than 68,000 people have signed it now. Warwick's coming out of this extremely badly.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 04/02/2019 20:19

Good,

Weezol · 05/02/2019 01:04

Signed

Hidingtonothing · 05/02/2019 01:47

Just seen this www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/warwick-university-confirms-two-rape-15780288 although comments on Facebook imply the students have chosen not to return rather than the university changing their decision Angry

Weezol · 05/02/2019 02:13

I wonder if there has been some kind of 'settlement' reached?

Dyrne · 05/02/2019 08:36

Weezol I read online that apparently one of the men’s names has been removed from online articles where he was previously named in them; so it sounds like at least one of them is throwing some legal weight around.

FlawedAmazon · 06/02/2019 10:16

They can remove what they want, but unfortunately for them, people have saved articles and got screenshots. This isn't going away any time soon.

The audio on this isn’t great but just saw this footage of the protest on Warwick Uni campus. Great to see so many women and men coming out in force against this.
