Warwick Lecturers write letters of condemnation

Some of the lecturers at Warwick University have written letters condemning the early reinstatement of the vile little scumbags who sent misogynistic and racist messages about women.

This is the first one, but apparently there are more to follow. Will post as I see them.

DD was seriously considering Warwick for next year. She will not be going there now. We are utterly disgusted by Warwick University’s attitude.

If anyone works in Admissions at Warwick I'm sure we'd all love to know how many withdrawals you're getting at the moment!

Anyone working in Admissions at other universities: are you getting many enquiries from current Warwick students who want to transfer ASAP?

@GCAcademic I'm heartbroken for the girl that said she wanted to do a masters there. She should have that right and not be forced out by a group of abusive men.

Warwick really are going to suffer badly for this I feel, losing incredible women who will feel threatened studying there. Can you imagine if they had a full blown rape allegation? They would just sweep it under the rug!

Any who was considering Warwick but has now crossed them off their list needs to actually tell them this, so they understand the implications of the decision to behave in such a cowardly way

I've already contacted them and said my daughter won't be going there as I don't feel she'll be safe.

Where are the parents of all the other students at Warwick? They should be writing emails threatening to withdraw funds to their children, which would mean they'd have to leave. And every decent student there should be protesting, too. That kind of talk is just disgusting.

Students are speaking out and so are lecturers. If they still let them back in, people will be asking a lot of questions.

My husband and I are Warwick grads. I’ve written a letter to go in the post tomorrow telling them in no uncertain terms I wouldn’t want any child of mine - daughter or son - to attend an institution where it’s acceptable to make jokes about sexual violence.

I'm so worried about my 18 year old going off to uni in september, I feel that living away from home for the first time is challenging enough for her without having to worry about meeting the type of young men who use threatening language towards her and make her feel vulnerable and unsafe.

The University is getting an absolute pasting on the #shameonyouWarwick hashtag. Rightly so. I see numerous alumni stopping their donations and parents and applicants saying they have withdrawn applications or crossed it off their list. Heads should roll over this.

This whole situation just gets more and more sordid with each chunk of information that emerges. The female (and other minority group) victims are the ones effectively being punished, not the perpetrators. Love that academics/departments are openly condemning Warwick's approach.

I am wondering whether any men working there will also be writing similar missives of their own. I am loath to say it, but we need men to voice their own disgust over the students' conduct and the manner in which this has been handled as well, in order to best underline how unacceptable it is. Women's voices alone are seemingly never enough...

A lot of the comments under the petition are from men who are horrified at what's going on. Fathers don't want their daughters subjected to such disgusting behaviour.

It’s fascinating watching the counter on the Change.org petition. It’s constantly ratcheting up.

@HollowTalk I'm a student there and although I can't speak for everyone, obviously, I know that loads of us are up in arms and have made our feelings known to tutors etc.

I’ve just been reading an article in the Telegraph about it. The comments from men on there are sickening. These male students aren’t just getting these attitudes from porn and the Internet. The attitudes are being passed down from their fathers’ generation. Really fucking depressing.
