Mermaids 'power couple' Hannah & Jake Graf say surrogacy laws must be changed to force women to hand over babies

Jake & Hannah have joined a surrogacy agency and want to rent a womb. Hannah says, however, the law should be changed to compel the rented woman to hand over the baby at birth.

Hurtling head first towards Gilead.

Daisiesinavase · 01/02/2019 12:23

It's the ultimate gifts, Jake says. If that's true we don't need to make any laws to make sure the gift is handed over.

OldCrone · 01/02/2019 12:23

In the article they are wearing t-shirts saying 'trans women are women' and 'trans men are men'. In which case, Hannah can just get pregnant using Jake's sperm. Why would they need a surrogate?

Daisiesinavase · 01/02/2019 12:24

It's not much of a gift if the giver is legally obliged to give it.!

userschmoozer · 01/02/2019 12:24

Except if the surrogate parents change their minds. It would be utter madness to force them to accept a baby if they have changed their minds for any reason /s Angry

Women's consent is utterly meaningless now, isnt it.

Oxytocindeficient · 01/02/2019 12:26

Oh god. Seriously, it’s like Handmaids Tale. Really.

BettyDuMonde · 01/02/2019 12:26

Under Zies Eye.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/02/2019 12:27

Won't happen. TRAs overplaying their hand again. It will just peaktrans more and more of the public.

Popchyk · 01/02/2019 12:27

Blessed be the fruit.

bottomflannel · 01/02/2019 12:28

Holy fucking shit.

TeacupDrama · 01/02/2019 12:31

more likely to see surrogacy banned altogether like in lots of other European countries

MrsJayy · 01/02/2019 12:34

I saw they were on Lorrraine Kelly wonder if she head tilted and said they were awfy awfy brave Hmm

What a load of shite eh just have a breeding centre and be done with it !

SophoclesTheFox · 01/02/2019 12:34

Yet again, special treatment required for trans people. Why? What particular insight can Jake and Hannah give us into the law here?

There are hundreds of thousands of infertile people and couples. I’m one of them. Every gay male couple in the land has this same issue. There is nothing special about Jake and Hannah’s situation, but somehow we’re supposed to believe that this is so special the law should be changed to give women fewer rights over their bodies and their babies?!

No one has a right to a child. No one.

Carowiththegoodhair · 01/02/2019 12:34

I wouldn’t be so sure. There is a very powerful legal lobby looking to change surrogacy laws,

Racecardriver · 01/02/2019 12:36

I’m inclined to agree with them. If you are going to permit surrogacy then the obligations of both parties need to reflect the arrangement from the point of conception.

Calvinsmam · 01/02/2019 12:36

So just tell me if I have this right?

A straight couple who have voluntarily made themselves sterile think it’s theor right to use a woman’s womb to give them a child and that that woman shouldn’t have the right to change her mind?

Have I got that right?

BettyDuMonde · 01/02/2019 12:37

So that women who miscarry can be sued by the ‘parents’?

Fuck off.

MrsJayy · 01/02/2019 12:38

That is what they are saying calvinsmum yes

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 01/02/2019 12:38

That is absolutely disgusting

Do some people just not think!!

Or care...I suppose its care

SnuggyBuggy · 01/02/2019 12:40

Definitely under his eye

nauticant · 01/02/2019 12:41

I’m inclined to agree with them. If you are going to permit surrogacy then the obligations of both parties need to reflect the arrangement from the point of conception.

It's best not to confuse contract law with human rights/fundamental morality.

MrsJayy · 01/02/2019 12:42

It is the not caring Rufus a womb is just a vessel you see bugger the female who is attached

Oxytocindeficient · 01/02/2019 12:44

If you are going to permit surrogacy then the obligations of both parties need to reflect the arrangement from the point of conception

It’s not a business transaction, or it shouldn’t be. The surrogate is always the mother.

JellySlice · 01/02/2019 12:44

Or when the mother gives birth to a child with a congenital problem, the people who commissioned her can demand a penalty for damaged goods, or even reject the damaged goods?

Hmm
Calvinsmam · 01/02/2019 12:45

But it’s not just a business transaction is it? It’s womens bodies and consent.
