The thread I wrote about attending Posie Parker's panel on gender identity and social media has attracted a lot of attention, and I thought it might be good to establish more of a dialogue. Ask me anything!

Also, to get this one out of the way: my babysitting rates are £15/hr, plus flights, and I'll provide a clean CRB check 😂

since you've returned, can you answer my question?

Will the people formerly known as men allow the people formerly known as women to create new DV refuges and etc etc*

Please feel free to create whatever organisations you like - I certainly am not going to stop you. Just don't call it a women's org if it isn't going to be inclusive of all women. If you're going to be campaigning about period poverty or reproductive rights, I'd try to include all people that affects, including trans masc people.

Not if the yellow fruit are involved

Technically, they are not a fruit. They are a herb.

LOL. Now you're just gunning for screenshots!

It's been a loooooooooooooooong day.

littlbrowndog · 30/01/2019 22:59

I do think the sentence that Liz used was erm I dunno perhaps what Liz thinks
The sentence was
Trans women trans girls and non trans women and girls

Like women and girls don’t exist anymore

sackrifice · 30/01/2019 23:00

But they go so well with...

.... I'll be good. I won't say it.

littlbrowndog · 30/01/2019 23:01

So my dd is a non trans girl now ?

sackrifice · 30/01/2019 23:03

I'll be good. I won't say it

I agree with you. I just can't eat [redacted] due to [redacted] based issues, I'd be doubled up in agony if i did.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/01/2019 23:03

You know what'd happen if women thought of a new name for themselves and gave up 'woman'? The term 'woman' wouldn't mean adult human female anymore in people's minds. Then transwomen would go after whatever new term women had chosen.

sackrifice · 30/01/2019 23:03

So my dd is a non trans girl now

Non-trans, non-boy. Get with it grandma.

AnneHutchinson · 30/01/2019 23:05

How about if we just make it simpler and instead of creating new organisations we relabel the ones we have? You may call yourself a woman, and the people formerly known as women will call themselves Wombles. We'll hang new signs on the women's estates and on the DV refuges we built, labeling them for Wombles only.

Those now known as women can remain in the men's estate and can build their own DV refuges, as we now known as Wombles once did.

Wombles will of course include transmasculine people, as Wombles encompasses those people formerly known as women, ie that class of people born with the capacity to create ova and gestate young.

All sorted! It's amazing what a change of language, as opposed to materal reality, can accomplish!

Ereshkigal · 30/01/2019 23:06

I think this thread is a useful one to share with people who don't get what the problem is.

sackrifice · 30/01/2019 23:07

I've always wanted to be a womble. I loved Orinoco as a child. And now as an adult, I am a skip diver. Weird that.

Ereshkigal · 30/01/2019 23:07

So thank you for that at least, OP.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 30/01/2019 23:08

I've always wanted to be a womble

FloralBunting · 30/01/2019 23:08

Yeah, if we've reached the point wherein the OP is saying "Sure, set up new DV refuges if you want. But if you say they're for women, no, you can't." then I'm definitely at WBH defcon 1.

I like bananas. I like hot cereal. But Weetabix is only good for the two second point between being small block of MDF and mushy slurry.

There, I've said it. I love you Lang, but WBH is categorically wrong.

glitchliz · 30/01/2019 23:08

So thank you for that at least, OP.

Happy to help.

Orinoco IS A heroine

sackrifice · 30/01/2019 23:09

It's great. And such a fantastic parting line.

Don't you women ever dare do anything for yourselves. Or else.

Calvinsmam · 30/01/2019 23:09

If you're going to be campaigning about period poverty or reproductive rights, I'd try to include all people that affects, including trans masc people.

All people who are of the sex class who gestate the young? What are they called again?

I don’t menstruate, the reason I don’t menstruate is because I am on the hormonal coil which I deliberately chose to use because it’s stops my periods. I don’t have periods but period poverty and politics absolutely affects me because cost was definitely one of the things I weighed up when choosing my contraception. It’s not just the having them it’s the being of the class of people who can have them.

Ereshkigal · 30/01/2019 23:09

WBH is against the Geneva Convention.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 30/01/2019 23:12

Bananas are a herb?!

Aaaand now I've got something out of this thread.

lisamuggeridge · 30/01/2019 23:13

Am sorry whut? Bananas are a herb?!

Ereshkigal · 30/01/2019 23:14

Apparently so. Just googled it.
