The thread I wrote about attending Posie Parker's panel on gender identity and social media has attracted a lot of attention, and I thought it might be good to establish more of a dialogue. Ask me anything!

Also, to get this one out of the way: my babysitting rates are £15/hr, plus flights, and I'll provide a clean CRB check 😂

Liz, is the picture datun posted upthread of you?

The one with 'die cis scum' tattooed on their arm?

SkylightAndChandelier · 30/01/2019 18:12

My point is that the group of people who have, or have had, the ability or potential to bear children does not neatly line up with the group of people 'women' describes

It does for me. And for lots of people, and for the dictionary.

I really think that if you want to redefine a word, it's a minimum requirement to be able to provide that new definition.

Do you have a definition of woman beyond 'a woman is someone who says they are a woman'? Because that isn't a definition, as many here have pointed out.

glitchliz · 30/01/2019 18:12

As an aside, are you going to go back to Twitter and mention that that the single post you shared got sharply deleted? It worries me that it misrepresents this conversation, and ‘smacking nineteen shades of shit’ probably has got the wrong end of the stick as to how this is going.

I've shared a link to the thread, interested people can keep up. Also, here: twitter.com/glitchliz/status/1090673898235088897?s=21

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch no that picture of the person with the half shaved head is definitely not Liz. It is another person who has used a baseball bat to threaten women.

R0wantrees · 30/01/2019 18:13

But you have taken the name away from it (the group formerly known as women) and left it nameless.

Do you recognise that this is a pro-woman (adult human female) action?

I said that some people don't have dysphoria, and some experience gender euphoria, and some have both.

So what you are saying is that women should give up swathes of their sex based protections, so that some males can 'feel good' and their 'gender euphoria' be validated? And you can't see anything misogynistic about that at all?

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 30/01/2019 18:13

Thanks AssassinateBeauty Smile** Needed that clarified!

''My point is that the group of people who have, or have had, the ability or potential to bear children does not neatly line up with the group of people 'women' describes.''

Yes it does. Every baby on the planet came from a uterus and every single baby on the planet came from a sperm and an egg. Every person on this planet came from a womans body and required a woman's labour. No baby on this planet came from a surgicaly altered male body. And wont.

Motherhood is the labour that is invisible in economics, and in our policies and systems and links directly to inequaity women face, men do not ever experience this., Trans women do not experience this.

Why are you ashamed of being a trans woman and why do you need women and their bioogy erased?

NotTerfNorCis · 30/01/2019 18:14

My point is that the group of people who have, or have had, the ability or potential to bear children does not neatly line up with the group of people 'women' describes

So what are the characteristics of woman?

If a transwoman is unconscious and unable to identify as a woman, but is observed by onlookers to be male, is the transwoman still a woman?

OdeToDiazepam · 30/01/2019 18:14

Yes it does

SophoclesTheFox · 30/01/2019 18:14

Do you believe that there are no cis women in prison who have ever assaulted, sexually or otherwise, another woman?

As another poster already said, not with a penis, no.

Seems blindingly obvious to me that makes a bit of a difference. But at least you’re consistent. Anyone is a woman who says they’re a woman. Could someone fake being trans? How could that be proved?

lisamuggeridge · 30/01/2019 18:15

Also who was the bat to threaten? Given you want access to spaces of safety from male violence- how does a baseball bat do anything but say you pose risk in those spaces?

O4FS · 30/01/2019 18:15

My point is that the group of people who have, or have had, the ability or potential to bear children does not neatly line up with the group of people 'women' describes.

That’s exactly what it does do, and it has served us well for many, many years.

You don’t get to take it away and make it your own.

Why is being a trans woman not acceptable to you? Surely by owning ‘trans’ you will live on your own terms and have your place in society?

NeurotrashWarrior · 30/01/2019 18:15

My point is that the group of people who have, or have had, the ability or potential to bear children does not neatly line up with the group of people 'women' describes.

But it does when girls are killed for being girls. Because a boy is worth more to the parents.

Those babies couldn't identify out of their sex class.

Women described a sex class.

glitchliz · 30/01/2019 18:15

Do you not consider it gaslighting and frankly abusive to tell the victims of Karen White that the person who raped them with their penis is in fact a woman?

Nope. Karen White is an abusive, rapist, paedophile PoS, but yes, she's a woman if she says she is. Doesn't mean she isn't awful.

Liz, is the picture datun posted upthread of you? The one with 'die cis scum' tattooed on their arm?

Nope, I look like this: twitter.com/glitchliz/status/1087060712592154625?s=21

Hi, I'm Liz the Glitch! Ask me anything.
AssassinatedBeauty · 30/01/2019 18:16

@glitchliz I think you're hopelessly naive to think that the picture you posted could be interpreted in any other way than a threat of violence. At least, that's the charitable and kind interpretation of your intentions.

When you know the context of the Degenderettes, of that museum display of baseball bats similarly decorated that were used to threaten violence against women.... it's so very naive to come to another conclusion.

Truckingonandon · 30/01/2019 18:16

Oh and I've just seen that I've been quoted on Twitter and cited as transphobic. If telling the truth is transphobic, then so be it.

glitchliz · 30/01/2019 18:18

Also who was the bat to threaten? Given you want access to spaces of safety from male violence- how does a baseball bat do anything but say you pose risk in those spaces?

That bat lives by my bed. I don't need to explain why a woman might feel the need to defend herself in her room, in her house, because I think that feeling is known by a lot of people here.

OP posts:
OdeToDiazepam · 30/01/2019 18:18

So as proven, from about the 16th century, woman has been an adequate word to describe an adult human female, with the potential to produce offspring.

You can't change that. You can not redefine our words based on your feelings

AyeRobot · 30/01/2019 18:18

Do you think that because oestrogen makes you feel good it's evidence that your body is wrong?

If a biological cause of transsexualism were found, would you take the test?

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 30/01/2019 18:19

Liz does the large number of girls with autistic traits identifying as trans bother you? ASD girls have a strong tendency not to confirm to gender stereotype and are more vulnerable. Undiagnosed girls have a high propensity to "system shutdown" in teen years.
