Do the rights and safety of little girls in Scotland matter so little to the judiciary? This defies belief:

It’s only the times covers anything these days, I don’t know WTAF the rest of them are up to.

joystir59 · 29/01/2019 13:20

What do families do when they see signs that their teenager is developing a sexual interest in children? Paedophiles are raised in families after all. I'm drawn to consider the case of Michael Jackson, being old enough to remember him as a child star, and to wonder when the first signs were seen. I assume his religious and showbusiness fixated family ignored them. What happens now when families see the signs? Anyone raising a teenager now who has these concerns?

littlbrowndog · 29/01/2019 13:21

Yeah but it’s sort of thing the sun or daily record would cover
Or daily mail
It doesn’t even show that mumsnet is talking about it and his name has been said here

justasking111 · 29/01/2019 13:28

I recall a thread on here a while back about Glasgow and abused children being sold on the street for sex. It was so shocking.

I cannot read the whole article but a picture of the man showing Rotary in Scotland banner behind him is bizarre. Rotary is for men over 40 I thought with Round Table being for those under 40. Unless it is different across the border.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 29/01/2019 14:52

What the fuck have I just read? I'm in Scotland. I will do anything that will help get this looked into. I can't believe what I am reading.

What an amazing, incredible little girl, to be so young, have gone through such a traumatic ordeal for 2 YEARS and be able to sit and give evidence for hours being cross-examined, and to do that well enough that he's found Guilty.

Then this. Angry

C8H10N4O2 · 29/01/2019 15:00

Disgusting. His welfare has been prioritised over hers

Its worse than that. Its his career being prioritised over the abuse of a young child. I'm honestly shocked at how little coverage there is of this.

As the parents said - what point was there in putting the child through the trial for him to get off without even a slap on the wrist? What message does that give to the parents of other abused children?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 15:06

honestly shocked at how little coverage there is of this.

Why?
Getting abusers in positions of power has always been a goal. We are just now at a point where it can happen openly as everywhere has been infiltrated.

PerkingFaintly · 29/01/2019 15:08

STV report, for those who can't read the Times article:

Wtaf, have I stepped into a parallel universe.

So many questions unanswered that poor girl and her family.

OlennasWimple · 29/01/2019 15:28

Jeez.....

Sad
Knicknackpaddyflak · 29/01/2019 16:23

Yet in this country (amongst others) there is huge pressure to get rid of segregated facilities and make everything mixed. You have to wonder why.

We know why. If you say it you'll have your post deleted. The time to worry about this happening is over, it has happened.

I'd ask the few remaining sane journalists and MPs with a conscience who read here: check your history. What always happens when a population no longer receives justice from law and ceases to trust it? And then think about what would have happened to Huntley or the parents of Baby P if they general public outside those courts had got hold of them?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 16:45

have I stepped into a parallel universe.

No but what you are seeing is increased public awareness and more people recognising how often news sources manipulate the public by only printing certain things.

It's been happening for decades, finally eyes are opening.

DodoPatrol · 29/01/2019 17:11

I wonder if a PP has it right -- that he was coerced or blackmailed into doing this as a teenager, and that revealing the reason for leniency would itself be seen as cruel.

Not that that helps the little girl or her family.

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 17:12

Surely that would have been taken into account when charging or prosecuting though? His charge would have been lesser or dropped

feministfairy · 29/01/2019 17:15

The Mail are now covering this:

Didn't stop this molester being jailed for 8 yrs. Of course she was female so committed the additional crime of not conforming to "what women do".

www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/17390287.nursery-worker-paedophile-sophie-elms-sentenced-to-seven-years/

Local report which isn't behind Times paywall.

She had been groomed by the male abusers since her early teens and was socially isolated. Presumably if she had been a MC dental student with a penis and a dad in the Rotary club she could have escaped punishment too.

RepealTheGRA · 29/01/2019 17:52

Ffs!

What is wrong with safeguarding in this country? Lessons were learned and Procedures should’ve been put in place after Vanessa George. Angry

littlbrowndog · 29/01/2019 18:07

Just look at Wrexham tennis centre to see how safeguarding was ignored

WokerThanWoke · 29/01/2019 18:43

This is so chilling. How can they protect a career he doesn’t even have yet? Who says he was even going to pass his exams?

feministfairy · 29/01/2019 18:47

Here's the Guardian article about the Wrexham Tennis scandal. Not 20 or 30 years old but current with concerns being raised since 2012. Lawn Tennis Association officials repeatedly ignored serious concerns raised by parents (including one who was a senior police officer) and as a result Daniel Sanders was able to go on and sexually abuse an underage girl.

www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/nov/23/lta-child-protection-failings-coach-abuse

Evidently safeguarding girls was of limited interest / importance to the LTA.

Holy shit. A former police chief tells you that a coach fits the profile of a sexual predator and you do nothing? What the fuck?

I wonder if it is worth wrotog to this charity about the Scottish case?

At least it's not just females they ignore Hmm Although it sounds like it was all girls who were the victims of his years of bullying and predatory behaviour, so why bother doing anything?
