Do the rights and safety of little girls in Scotland matter so little to the judiciary? This defies belief:

I clicked on that link expecting to see something contradicting the OP’s comments as I couldn’t believe what I was reading.

But a convicted sex offender who denies his offences is to face no consequences for his actions & no safeguarding measures to ensure it won’t happen again.

I can think of no possible explanation for this. Wrong for the victim, wrong for possible future victims and wrong for discrediting the justice system. Encourages vigilante justice. Just shocking.

We had a major cover up local to me a few years back. They all got away with it. Local people knew but with everyone with power and influence in on it what can you do?

Janie143 · 29/01/2019 09:41

This is abhorrent. Surely he will still have a criminal record even though the sentencing was zero consequences. He was found guilty of a serious crime. Or will he get a new identity next, courtesy of the state, because society is a danger to him!

Girls are never too young. That is what pur patriarchal society believes. Paedophilia is not a rare psychosexual disease, it is commonplace

We need to remember this.^^

There are men who want to carry out their desires and try to justify it by saying:
-its not their fault.
-it's normal
-she tempted me
-children tempt me

Vile

Attempts to lower the age of consent must be resisted. A family member is working in a refugee camp building safe, segregated toilet and washing facilities for women and children. This is what the women asked for because of the constant assaults and rapes.
Yet in this country (amongst others) there is huge pressure to get rid of segregated facilities and make everything mixed.
You have to wonder why.

Longtalljosie · 29/01/2019 10:04

The prosecution can appeal against the leniency of the sentence - is it that which has been refused? Because if so that’s where political pressure comes in.

happydappy2 · 29/01/2019 10:19

Please someone start a petition-this family needs answers & that man needs to be kept away from women & children who he will be able to sedate in the dentists chair.....horrific

Mumfun · 29/01/2019 10:20

Disgusting. His welfare has been prioritised over hers.

feministfairy · 29/01/2019 10:34

Surely the explanation that Sheriff Gerard Sinclair provided about why he let Christopher Daniel off the hook ought to be in the public domain.
Now given this is in Scotland I'm not sure how this works. I know in England the press often successfully challenge aspects of secret decision making by the courts. The Crown Office have already said there can be no appeal against the sentence - they really do seem to have something to hide.

Presumably the Scottish government will be supremely disinterested as they can barely utter the word girl at the moment, let alone protect their interests.
Just awful.

I can't believe I've read that. I can't think what justification there can be for this?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 10:52

what justification there can be for this?

There is a group of powerful peadophiles pulling strings.

hipsterfun · 29/01/2019 11:07

The victim’s family were not allowed to see a report sent by the sheriff to the Crown Office explaining his “wholly exceptional” decision

I think we all want to know what the ‘reasons’ were for this.

Outrageous.

misscockerspaniel · 29/01/2019 11:15

The guilty verdict was not recorded as a conviction

Friends in high places?

failingatlife · 29/01/2019 11:19

Saw this on stv news last night and still can't understand why this convicted paedophile has been let off with no punishment. How is this happening?

A distant relative was abused for most of her childhood by a teenage relative who is now high up in the Scottish legal establishment. She never reported him as he has all the power and I totally agree with her decision. Totally chills me every time I think of it. He ruined her childhood and has become a very successful adult who has power in the Scottish legal system. Looks like he has many friends thereAngry

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 29/01/2019 11:22

The victim’s family were not allowed to see a report sent by the sheriff to the Crown Office explaining his “wholly exceptional” decision

The law needs to be seen as fair and transparent. We need to trust the law and have faith that process are in place to protect the general public.

There may be very good reason why this man shouldn't face any consequence for his actions and presumably any rehabilitation. If known sex offenders are not being placed on the SOR, we need to understand why.

Shrouding it in mystery doesn't help the public understand the law, or feel protected by it. Saying it's wholly exceptional decision isn't enough. We need to know why and how often these decisions are made.

RepealTheGRA · 29/01/2019 11:23

Was the perpetrator here a victim of online grooming and abuse himself and then blackmailed into abusing a younger victim on camera? (There have been other cases like that)

Though if that is the case I STILL think the conviction should stand and he should go on the register.

Purplewithgreenspots · 29/01/2019 11:27

Another wholly exceptional decision, like that ‘one-off’ occasion when the poor lady’s sexual history was used against her by the defence? How often does something have to be done before it is admitted that these are not the exceptions, but the common practice?

RunningWild12 · 29/01/2019 11:35

This is the country where we have national women's organisations who can't define the word women. Where a woke government will push through nonsense laws on self id unless women organise and push back. And where the government will consult on making misogyny a hate crime. Ha bloody ha.
Scotland - you need to get the basics right. Women are adult human females, oppressed due to our sex. We are at risk of violence from men, from the day we are born until the day we die. You might want to start having a good clean out of the judiciary. A man is walking away from sexually assaulting a child. Because we have institutions that enable that to happen. Good god. What a shithole.

GrinitchSpinach · 29/01/2019 11:44

Outrageous. Is there a petition? This should be in every paper and all over tv.

Badgerthebodger · 29/01/2019 12:15

I’m absolutely appalled at this. Is @LassWiTheDelicateAir still about? I haven’t seen her for ages but would love to here her views on this as she is excellent on Scottish legal system.

I cannot believe a paedophile sex offender can be found guilt and have no consequences. I would still disagree with it but I would understand it better if the victim was in her teens (still utterly revolting but could see where the misogynistic decision making had come from) but she’s six. SIX. That poor child was also cross examined for hours Sad

The system is broken. It cannot be acceptable to cross examine children in court, never mind the utterly horrific decision to find the disgusting paedophile guilt but apparently not liable for any consequences. Just what the actual fuck.

SimplySteve · 29/01/2019 12:24

Posted on the same thread in AIBU. I'm seething with anger. Yet again the privileged receive special treatment. If he were working a manual labour job I think there would've been a vastly different outcome.

He's a predatory offender, and to abuse her for two years shows planning, deceit. Fuck knows what he's said to the little girl.

God, I'm pissed at this.

SimplySteve · 29/01/2019 12:26

The victim’s family were not allowed to see a report sent by the sheriff to the Crown Office explaining his “wholly exceptional” decision, an STV investigation has found. They believe that Daniel’s middle-class background, strong educational attainment and career prospects helped to convince the sheriff to grant the most lenient possible disposal.

NOT ALLOWED???????

Schmoobarb · 29/01/2019 12:32

It’s awful. I wonder if the same decision would have been reached if he’d been the unemployed “no hoper” off spring of a junkie mother? I doubt it.

That poor girl’s family. They must really be wondering what was the point in going through all that for nothing.

While I do agree that people do deserve a second chance and not necessarily to be blighted for life by actions when they were not yet adults, being a dentist will place this individual in a place where he may have access to the bodies of vulnerable and sedated females. It is not right that there will be no reference to that on his record and he should certainly be on the sex offenders register.

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2019 13:13

Yes. He would have had opportunities for rehabilitation following conviction.
This is simply a cover up and we need the media to play their vital role in uncovering what is going on.

littlbrowndog · 29/01/2019 13:16

Yeah but google his name. Only the times is covering it as far as I can see
