I should be ignoring this, and making the tea..... Liz is a TRA and her twitter storytime is as follows: yesterday, she says she infiltrated Posie's session, and gives a twitter read-out - an account which contains absolutely no substantive information at all. There follows innumerable comments, presumably from her woke following, asking "y' alright hun?" and telling her how stunning and brave she was to avoid capture in the lion's den of horrible transphobic bigots.

They seem to have overlooked the fact that the whole thing was broadcast live on Facebook, and therefore she could have listened to it from the comfort of her sofa and avoided what her followers tell her could have been "confrontational". By all accounts she sat there saying nothing - except to thank Venice Allan for handing over some stickers, which is what you do when you're "under cover" I guess? We know she did this, because she helpfully provides a photo of the stickers - sort of trophy stickers, I presume.

Then back in the safety of her own twitter feed, she dramatically declares "I am safe" - almost as if to imply she only managed to escape catastrophic injury by the skin of her teeth. Then, obviously traumatised by her day with the Haters, she posts a picture of herself holding a bat. The sort TRAs encase in barbed wire Confused

The most worrying thing about it all for me that is, is she looks kind of normal.. like the sort of person I might hire as a babysitter. I will never go out again. Right... I must peel some spuds....

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/01/2019 17:04

Ive appealed Sad

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/01/2019 19:16

I asked mnhq why i had been deleted and they have told me it was because they felt i was implying something about glitter

Ive no idea who reported the post on that basis and i dont care

But i would just like to apologise to glitter it would never ever be my intention to imply anything like that about any poster so i am very sorry that my obviously badly worded post has given that impression

Im trying to be careful what i say in case I accidentally get this one deleted but i will also pm glitter separately

GlitterStick · 29/01/2019 19:32

Wasn't me who reported it, but glad someone did as did feel a bit that way, yes.

OlennasWimple · 29/01/2019 20:10

Blimey - I've been deleted!!

I shall have to ask MNHQ why.... Confused

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/01/2019 20:39

They were everso prompt with their reply olennas

Theyve always been very helpful if ive got a query Grin

WokeNotBloke · 29/01/2019 21:22

As for the violence it represents, symbols have different meanings to different groups. The bat, to trans people (especially vulnerable trans women), it represents empowerment. I don't advocate violence or threats.

I would have found it interesting to talk to Liz. I don’t thinnk she was being disingenuous. I think this is her honest answer. It explains a lot. She clearly did feel threatened in that meeting and it makes sense that she posted an image that to her was about empowerment. I think it falls down because she seems to have given no thought to the impact of that image on others, beyond her immediate mates.

It reminds me of the transwoman, Esther I think, who was shocked to see how her behaviour frightened people in Bristol
It’s rubbish really. Think we actually do need a space where things can be discussed without people getting deleted or calling the police ☹️

I don't know... it seems very disingenuous to pose with a weapon and yet claim to be unaware of the violence associated with the imagery. Also to expect people to believe that you think that empowerment is something that can be achieved with weapons, without being violent? It doesn't make any sense.

nauticant · 29/01/2019 21:32

Especially when the person is posing in their pants. I suppose if I commented on what that made me think then this post would be deleted.

AyeRobot · 29/01/2019 21:35

I think Liz is very literal - men use violence to get power, women are told they are empowered by posing in their knickers. Double whammy!

Still cringing.

HamiltonCork · 29/01/2019 21:41

I was deleted and told it was because i’d Made a personal attack on Glitterstick. I didn’t - it was about the idiot in her pants holding a baseball bat - featured in the original op.

Oxytocindeficient · 29/01/2019 21:44

I find it hard to believe all these deleted posts directed at glitter, weren’t reported by glitter...

GlitterStick · 29/01/2019 21:46

Wokenotbloke people may find this hard to believe what with being called a TRA and worse on here, but I agree with your last post ( well the bit you quoted) You don't think she was being disigenous. I don't either. Might not be a popular opinion but I do think a lot on here are clouded by their own beliefs and can't see anything else. Even things that can be entirely innocent. I know from experience on MN over the years that if you have a different opinion you're automatically an enemy, a TRA, even if you agree on some things.
Don't know who the Esther you're referring to is.
Would have been good to hear her side before it got deleted.

GlitterStick · 29/01/2019 21:48

Cross posted with Oxy. I rest my point. Whatever.

Oxytocindeficient · 29/01/2019 21:48

Many people find violence empowering. Just because something is ‘empowering’ doesn’t mean they don’t know exactly the threatening message it sends.

GlitterStick · 29/01/2019 21:51

A couple I did. As no, I'm entitled to my opinion and they were fucking nasty. The other couple though were nothing to do with me and I'm glad others picked them up Flowers

OlennasWimple · 29/01/2019 21:58

MNHQ have told me that my post was deleted because "We don't find this to be in the spirit of civil debate and as such, the post was removed."

I am still somewhat perplexed, given the posts that are allowed to stand (on here and on the wider site), but there you go. I CBA to argue about it - I fully admit wasn't making some deep and insightful comment that everyone ought to read

AnneHutchinson · 29/01/2019 22:01

America is an extremely violent country. I have not doubt Liz felt empowered displaying a weapon. To display a weapon, though, is to threaten. That is the entire purpose of the display.

Here is a woman using a bat in what was recently one of the most popular television shows in the US. Not a doubt in my mind that Liz knows all about the dual purpose of baseball bats:

Poppyred85 · 29/01/2019 22:02

I believe Liz referenced The Degenderettes in their post about the bat. Given that, there is no way Liz was unaware of the true meaning of the bat and to say otherwise with some attempt at faux innocence was frankly pathetic. My 6 year old lies more convincingly and he can’t stop himself grinning when he’s fibbing.

Oxytocindeficient · 29/01/2019 22:02

Yeah, they’ve allowed posts making all kinds of accusations to stand, lots of personal attacks... that’s ok. I’ll not hesitate to report certain users now.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/01/2019 22:03

Im not going to argue with mnhq either olennas

I personally feel it was a bit of a stretch and certainly not something my mind would have jumped to but i understand that MNHQ have to react to reports and that however unintentional my post was taken in a way that could be upsetting

And I understand that glitter didnt report it

sackrifice · 29/01/2019 22:08

Baseball bats aimed at women. They just cannot help themselves.

GlitterStick · 29/01/2019 22:11

I didn't mean it that way, if your post is one deleted, glad you (hopefully) realise that as you seem a nice in the middle one on here lol.
Don't know who it was, but I'm glad they did see fit to say something.
They must have seen it too even if you didn't mean it that way.

Oxytocindeficient · 29/01/2019 22:13

The disgusting comments on Lisa’s thread, directed at her, some general directed at everyone else, many of those were permitted to stand and the users harassing her are not banned. So as much as everyone likes to be grateful to MNHQ, their moderations are completely random and inconsistent. They expect certain women to take a whole lot of crap without defending themselves.
