What we did was amazing. We pulled the GUardian, Parliament, the House of Lords, the media, out of a position they were determined to have, we changed the debate, we showed women were a political force, we acted, all over the country we acted. In different ways. We were bound by the GRA review and as soon as that was done it was evident that power relations had recreated within a social movement. Yes some people by reflex did things that they would always have done. Now we get to relearn and renegotiate power relations by saying we dont play the way media tribalists did. Whatever fall outs there have been were always going to hapen but we still did that. Thats why htis board is permanently monitored by nutcases and acually the power we demonstrated is directly at the root of the toxic fallouts and is a mark of success in itself. Political spectrum reforming within this movement is alright, but it probably pays to remember how amazing what we achieved was and letting that guide what we can achieve., We changed the conversation we can keep doing that. Easily. By having the conversation we want and not bowing to social media tribalism that hides all sorts of nasties and existing political orgs. And learning in a way they cant.

The video of him standing in the doorway to a courtroom shouting at an exasperated judge about how he wouldn't enter without being guaranteed his sovereign rights must still be around somewhere.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/01/2019 15:53

I really hope MNHQ don't just get fed up and delete this whole thread. It really is very enlightening and could also be used as some sort of teaching too.

There's definitely been a fair amount of DARVO, pretty sure I spotted some sea lioning and there's been a great selection of informal fallacies too - I've been ticking them off from this useful list: www.txstate.edu/philosophy/resources/fallacy-definitions.html

Have I missed any?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 15:53

and getting the transgender issue covered on women's hour

there was a sort of unofficial email campaign to WH run from this board, and I really think we forced them to cover it.

that was another point where it really felt like we were making a difference

Teaching tool Blush

Seeing Mermaids described as a "controversial charity" was I think a small but significant point too - there's been a lot of them recently which gives me hope.

exLtEveDallas · 29/01/2019 15:55

This is probably one of my favourites. Bought the fight to the masses.

Gosh it’s weird how often we have to say this.

Women, including Julie Bindel, can set whatever boundaries they want, talk to or not talk to, whomever they want. We all have different ones. I might talk or work with someone that Julie would not, and vice versa. I might disagree in one area with someone, and agree in another- maybe even strongly disagree. Doesn’t mean I blacklist them or feel the need to trash them for their decisions.

Some people need to grow up.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 15:57

Oh yes Eve that was magnificent

I really think Posies mischievousness is her key strength

Dragon3 · 29/01/2019 15:57

Some good information on that informal fallacy list, It'sallgoingtobefine

I also hope that this thread will be allowed to stand. The refusal to accept 'no' is demonstrated throughout.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 15:58

Crazy person - Do what I say! Hate whoever I tell you to!

Group of women - Nah. Anyway...

Crazy person (Increasingly incoherent flailing)

WHAT?! How did I miss that?

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 16:01

Did anyone save links? It really was funny.

Dragon3 · 29/01/2019 16:02

Engagement with journalists has sprung from these forums. The bloke from the Spectator (James Kirkup?) who publicly went 'eh?' when MN was under attack for hosting GC discussion.

I think that many journalists lurk here.

Politelygiveszerofucks · 29/01/2019 16:04

Indeed. Myself, Geewhizz obsolete and bubonic have refused to accept no, obfuscation, attempts at derailing our point, the minimisation of heinous abuse and trauma inflicted on women and yet we are being informed that we are doing the gaslighting. At one point OP accused us all of being mentally ill and narcissists.

OP posts triumphantly on how well ‘we’ including herself did. We stand up and say, no, you didn’t.

If her vile tearing down of women can stand then so too can this thread, calling her out on it and the minimisation of what she did, including attempting to destroy several of those standing up for women.

R0wantrees · 29/01/2019 16:05

Hmm. Bindel who pulled the “I refuse to engage with David Davis” stunt, when he was the only one of 650 MPs willing to stick his neck on the line and risk his political career.

Its funny I've read this comment (or something very similar) somewhere else in a mostly women and feminist space and it surprised me at the time.

It stood out a bit.
Hmm

This ^^

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 16:08

probably the volume responses to the GRA consultation bringing down the .gov website

that was a pretty high point. I think much of the credit there needs to go to Nic Williams and FPFW. She played an absolute blinder during the consultation

PositivelyPERF · 29/01/2019 16:09

It really does seem to set the non women and their supporters, when women say NO, doesn’t it?

It’s almost as if women have finally realised that it’s ok to stop being ‘nice’ sometimes. One of the most positive things to come out of this onslaught on women’s rights, is the number of females who have learned to stand up to bullies and find their own voice. Those women who lived their quiet lives, believing that we were reaching equality, have finally woke up. We may lose a few during the battles, but we’ll win the war.

PositivelyPERF · 29/01/2019 16:10

Upset the non women.

Dragon3 · 29/01/2019 16:16

Yes, Nic Williams has been amazing. I am in awe of her work. She provides calm clarity and has the background and professionalism to do it well.

I expect that she is guilty of some thought crime or other (before the feminist badge-keeping trio decide to jump in and enlighten us Hmm). Can't say I care.

PurpleCrowbar · 29/01/2019 16:20

'...have refused to accept no...' Politely.

Yep, that's kind of the issue.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 29/01/2019 16:22

have I missed any?

Cyberstalking, mobbing and harassment

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 16:23

Yep, that's kind of the issue.

The jokes, they write themselves, eh?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 29/01/2019 16:25

Ok a little derail

Yesterday a user made a brilliant comment about women being wonderful and also human and flawed and on occasion doing shitty things

I bookmarked it I thought but there's not a file of user bookmarks on MN I discover, and I can't find it. Can't recall which thread (though presume it was referring to the public differences of opinions) or which user

Can anyone recall it or have a copy of it?

Dragon3 · 29/01/2019 16:28

I do recall that comment woman. I think it was on the Jean Hatchett blog post thread, but could be wrong. I liked it too.
