What we did was amazing. We pulled the GUardian, Parliament, the House of Lords, the media, out of a position they were determined to have, we changed the debate, we showed women were a political force, we acted, all over the country we acted. In different ways. We were bound by the GRA review and as soon as that was done it was evident that power relations had recreated within a social movement. Yes some people by reflex did things that they would always have done. Now we get to relearn and renegotiate power relations by saying we dont play the way media tribalists did. Whatever fall outs there have been were always going to hapen but we still did that. Thats why htis board is permanently monitored by nutcases and acually the power we demonstrated is directly at the root of the toxic fallouts and is a mark of success in itself. Political spectrum reforming within this movement is alright, but it probably pays to remember how amazing what we achieved was and letting that guide what we can achieve., We changed the conversation we can keep doing that. Easily. By having the conversation we want and not bowing to social media tribalism that hides all sorts of nasties and existing political orgs. And learning in a way they cant.

This is the biggest assault on the rights of women and girls that I've seen in my 50 years on this planet and it's fantastic to see so many women standing up and fighting against it.

That's bigger and more important than anything else.

Its brilliant.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 10:07

For those who continue to insist that we make it about their own personal grudge against (insert name here, it varies) all I can say is, get some sense of perspective.

lisamuggeridge · 29/01/2019 10:07

Yesterday I was siding with a fascist and more or less supporting abortion an anti-semitism, cos I said the notion of Posie representing the risk of fascism in the UK was absurd, today am writing blog posts about Brexit and the end of the post war settlement to position myself in a hierarchy that only exists in a sockpuppets head. Internet is a mad place. Best to keep a solid eye on reality I think.

I haven't read the whole thread but some of these new posters seem to dislike women with opinions who refuse to shut up. Rather than arguing their own positions, they're here, chuntering about Lisa and on other threads chuntering about Jean Hatchett and Posie Parker.

Are we supposed to be shocked that women have opinions? Meh.

Lisa I don't follow you closely but have found your input as a social worker really informative. Thank you for sticking your head above the parapet Flowers

2ndWaveFeminist · 29/01/2019 10:26

I really hope this thread doesn't disappear it, how do we request MN leave it up. It's a superb example of the way TRAs pick off one or two people and try and turn other women on them.

Lisa 💐 I've never read your blog but clearly I should. I'm sorry you've had to put up with this and worse

I adore Jean for her passion, kindness, humanity and her flaws

I admire Posies give no fucks attitude, that interview with Harrop over the billboards is always a joy to rewatch

To Gee and Politely we see you women my age have had a lifetime of men trying to manipulate us and try say any woman who sticks her hand up has to meet impossible standards - we see it

ssd · 29/01/2019 10:31

can no one be bothered to explain this thread to me?

Bubonicpanic · 29/01/2019 10:33

And more recent rants

You are the woman who demanded that austerity harm women in silence because mothers being mentioned in a democracy upset you. You are the woman who said it would upset you too much to have the women being harmed by austerity discussed. You will always be that woman and when the women you harmed offered you solidarity you defamed and harmed them. That is who you are. You will retract your defamation of me and you will find better ways to deal with shame at your own limitations in future. Or I will be taking legal action against you in the new year.

Karen made the point that women were not synonymous with parents and yet were treated as such in the work published that K I_S was reacting to. She has not said or done any of the things that Lisa lists above. This is willfully misconstruing words and misrepresenting a reasonable point of view. It's pretty clearly evidenced that the gender pay gap exists because women are treated synonymously with parenthood/family in the real world, so agree with K L-S.

This is not a "demand that austerity harm women in silence", what utter nonsense. I can't think of a stupider thing to say to Karen frankly.

If we do tell you'll end up eaiting Weetabix, so unless you want to end up eating a bowl of Weetabix, you dont want to know. Really. Skip the thread and go straight to the Weetabix. Thats you caught up.

idgeofreason.wordpress.com/2018/12/26/conclusion-to-this-blog-karen-ingala-smith-caroline-farrow-joani-walsh/

Read it for yourself, instead of calling us men and TRAs.

lisamuggeridge · 29/01/2019 10:37

The tweets on the only mention that a single MP made of mothers na dausterity in FIVE years. idgeofreason.wordpress.com/2015/07/09/karen-ingala-smith/

That would be the ONLY MP after fivce years of this.

I am not going to explore any of this here, cos this is not appropriate, but this is the blog post and I made sure that everything is recorded, and the email you highlighted was me ending contact. I will not be dealing with this here. Period. But actually that is someone directly lobbying an MP NOT to mention tthat situation. In a democracy. I am going to leave this for today. Really.

what part of 'no woman under a bus' is hard to understand Bubonicpanic?

my pitchfork is out of action

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 10:38

can no one be bothered to explain this thread to me?

nope

read it

Melroses · 29/01/2019 10:39

That is life, really. Working with people you don’t always agree with. Otherwise nothing would get done and no one would have any friends.

LangCleg · 29/01/2019 10:39

Q: but how is it possible to be working together when you disagree on other opinions.

A: Easily

And after thirty thousand rinse and repeats we get increasingly vicious ad hominems because non-compliance is the worst quality a woman can possess.

Bubonicpanic · 29/01/2019 10:41

Are the women Lisa blogged about included in the rather fatuous phrase "no women under the bus" BernardBlacksWineIcelolly

Does Lisa get a free pass on the ranting about people? Whereabouts on or under the bus is that? Lisa has special dispensation to write terrible nonsense about people as this is not "women under the bus" when Lisa does it?

Do explain the diplomatic immunity going on here?

I've tried with avocado. But they're so greasy, bland and mushy, or take a month to ripen and then are miraculously brown and off. Guacamole, though, is lovely. But too much faff.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 10:43

on the board today

  • a man gets away without punishment for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 6 year old girl
  • Commercial surrogacy and the sale of women's bodies
  • academic freedom and attacks on feminist academics
  • ROGD and the Heritage Foundation meeting
  • the resisters action
  • poor take up of smear testing due to body shame

and people want us to spend our energy enforcing ideological purity and denouncing each other?

STOP IT

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 10:44

Seconded, Bernard.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 10:44

Do explain the diplomatic immunity going on here?

what people do elsewhere is their business

if you do it here you'll be told it's boring, pointless and divisive

HashtagLurky · 29/01/2019 10:45

We all manage it at work, and in our families, don't we? If you're working for a common cause, you have to find a middle ground.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 10:47

The people who're determined to create their own ready made angry mob just aren't getting it. It's not happening. If anyone wants to be an angry mob of one, sure, up to you, but you can't actually force other people to join in.
