Trousers are gender-fluid now

From today’s Guardian.

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2019/jan/25/grown-up-trousers-v-fantasy-gowns-red-carpet-showcases-change-award-season

And I thought they were just trousers. I guess that makes about 90% of women in the western world gender fluid.

Ooh I’ve been making statements all these years and never knew.

I have to say the Guardian has really upped its ‘load of old bollocks’ quota the past few months. It’s trying so hard to be pc, it’s painful to read sometimes.

ILoveDolly · 26/01/2019 23:30

You couldn't make it up. Women have been wearing trousers already as formal wear for QUITE SOME TIME.

RepealTheGRA · 26/01/2019 23:34

The guardian is beyond parody now. Where is Titania McGrath going to go with that one?

MrsBertBibby · 26/01/2019 23:36

Sake.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/01/2019 23:41

Oh for fuck's sake.

A fashion psychologist

Every day's a school day. Grin

FloralBunting · 26/01/2019 23:44

It's not a good look to get gender fluid on your trousers, tbh. Best avoided.

donajimena · 26/01/2019 23:44

So only if you wear a 'non sexy' dress do you have the right not to be touched? So much wrong with this article.

MrsFogi · 26/01/2019 23:49

So often these days the only response I can find is - BOLLOCKS!!

InfiniteCurve · 26/01/2019 23:50

I am so over all this.Trousers may have been a sign of gender fluidity 100 years ago,now they are just trousers.

GrinitchSpinach · 26/01/2019 23:54

Katherine Hepburn: not confused about being an adult human female!

By chance I've got a Primark ad showing at the bottom of this thread in the app. Lots of people outside a store, apparently a mix of both sexes but every one of them looks to be wearing trousers!Shock Who knew Primark was such a magnet for the gender-fluid?

OtepotiLilliane42 · 27/01/2019 00:22

Let's not forget Diana, Princess of Wales, who absolutely rocked the 'gender fluid' trouser look.

And I attended the recent Burns Night dinner here in Dunedin wearing dark navy dress trousers, teamed with a red top, finished off with a tartan scarf. Quite a lot of the women there wore trousers instead of a skirt or dress.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 27/01/2019 00:29

Bollocks. Where do they get this. I sense from? We all wore trousers as kids.

tubspreciousthings · 27/01/2019 00:33

There is no such things as a fucking fashion psychologist. What a pile of bollocks.

AnneHutchinson · 27/01/2019 00:35

FFS let's not forget the women who were beaten for the right to wear trousers, in the late 19th century. While remaining staunch in the fact that wearing trousers didn't make them less women.

Now THAT was courage.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2019 01:02

Ew. Keep your gender fluid to yourself and off my trousers, randoms.

NoShitHemlock · 27/01/2019 01:04

I actually feel very sorry for those people both male and female who feel the need to wear floaty dresses in this weather - their knees must be bloody freezing Sad

HerFemaleness · 27/01/2019 01:38

I wore a floaty dress out this evening. My knees did freeze. I would have worn trousers but we were having a really big meal and I wanted to not constrict my stomach. It's a pay off, comfortably distended belly with cold knees, or warm knees but uncomfortable constrained belly.

WRT the OP. I thought Butlerian genderist bollocks was meant to free us from that sort of thinking. It seems to be doing the exact opposite.

Oldermum156 · 27/01/2019 01:53

I recently found out some businesses in the US actually expect women to wear skirts as professional attire - pants are not considered professional. I was very offended, I wear pantsuits all the time. How can this possibly be considered non-professional or gender-bending by now?

Levi Wokes are the solution.

nocoolnamesleft · 27/01/2019 03:10

Beaten? Look at the trial of Joan of Arc. Charged with heresy for wearing male clothing...donned to try to make it harder for her captors to rape her...

Easily solved by 60 denier or higher cotton tights and boots- problem solved. Unless you are at a debutant ball there's no reason why either or both of these can't be paired with floaty dresses.

I'm puzzled by people who wear jeans all year round - cold with no insulation in winter and stifling in summer.

Illyria47 · 27/01/2019 03:48

Sorry, Carolyn Mair, been there done that, worn the trousers for oh, lets see, nearly 60 years now. They're just trousers luv.
