Interesting to see in which sectors Stonewall has the strongest connections.
I imagine that this is mutually beneficial networking.

I imagine that the 'top' employers are those who have shelled out the most cash to Stonewall in training and consultancy fees.

Here is the list of programmes that Stonewall offers:

www.stonewall.org.uk/programmes-and-opportunities-0

Prices seem to start at around £5K per programme.

weebarra · 23/01/2019 14:50

The quango I work for is top 50. As far as I know (I'm management) we don't pay consultancy fees to stonewall. A lot of equality work has been done by one of my very dedicated colleagues and our rise up the list has really been because she's very passionate about equality generally.
I'm GC, and she, to some extent, has drunk the Kool Aid but we have full and frank discussions about trans issues.

fleuriepeninsula · 23/01/2019 15:51

Law firms seem to be astonishingly over represented with 15 firms. They’re not particularly diverse organisations (particularly at partner level).

LangCleg · 23/01/2019 15:53

Gosh, the poor genderists. Completely oppressed with institutional and corporate support nowhere to be found.

BeUpStanding · 23/01/2019 16:44

That is an interesting list...

CallingDannyBoy · 23/01/2019 17:08

Yes knew Credit Suisse would be in there.

Also surprised about the high proportion of law firms.

TELI was formed in 2016, from their 'Vision':

"The Trans Equality Legal Initiative works to build a collective and strategic response to the widespread and entrenched discrimination and inequality experienced by members of the trans community. The founders came together with this aim after the Government released the 'Transgender Equality Inquiry'. This was the first Government Inquiry into the discrimination and abuse suffered by members of the trans community in the UK. The report outlined the systemic discrimination faced by this community in almost every aspect of their private and public lives.

Through TELI, we hope to bring together human rights lawyers, third sector trans activist organisations, academics, equality and diversity experts and members of the trans, non-binary and queer community to pool our knowledge, expertise and skill base to inform both strategic litigation and to assist in lobbying for clear and concrete measures to secure equality and safety for members of the trans community. We also hope to consolidate expertise in this area of law to help inform practitioners and activists."

There are also awards for individuals including:

Lesbian Role Model of the Year 2019: Jacqueline Quinn
Senior Learning Experience Manager, Sky UK
Jacqueline Quinn is a network lead for Sky UK’s LGBT+ network, and an outstanding campaigner for LGBT equality and disability rights. Jacqueline’s passion for learning and development has powered change at Sky. She is known for changing mindsets and inspiring leaders to build more inclusive workplaces through her empowering engagement programmes.

Her restlessness to deliver equality has supported Sky’s journey to become a Stonewall Top 100 Employer.

Jacqueline has pioneered professional development and mentor programmes for LGBT+ employees, leaders and allies. She’s facilitated dynamic roadshows, hosted fundraising events and brings a focus to intersectionality through her own experiences and powerful storytelling.

Bi Role Model of the Year 2019: Hafsa Qureshi
Ministry of Justice
Hafsa works in recruitment support for Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service in Birmingham, part of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

Hafsa is very active in the Midlands subgroup of the department’s LGBT network, Spirit. This includes helping to organise an event for Bi Visibility Day in the region and speaking on the panel, and arranging the MoJ presence at Birmingham Pride. Hafsa is also an ally of a:gender, the cross Civil Service trans network.

Ally of the Year 2019: David Mathers Group Chief Financial Officer, Credit Suisse; Chief Executive, Credit Suisse International
He has been a strong supporter of the Bank’s Ally programme, encouraging employees throughout the organisation to sign-up as members. He also featured in a video, published internally and externally, which discussed the importance of diversity and inclusion within the workplace and was shared with the bank’s 45,000 employees globally. The video was particularly powerful in encouraging support for the LGBT programme at Credit Suisse.

When reverse mentoring was first introduced to the UK Executive Committee, David was the first to volunteer as a mentee, and encouraged other senior leaders to sign up. He meets with his mentor regularly and says that he has learnt a huge amount about LGBT identities, and in particular about intersectionality, by taking part.

David has helped to secure funding for the LGBT and Ally networks, and has led on the introduction of LGBT Ally lanyards across the UK campus and beyond. He regularly highlights the work of the LGBT Ally network at senior leadership events and through his monthly UK CEO newsletter.

Senior Champion of the Year 2019: Jonathan Slater
Department for Education.
Permanent Secretary, joined the Department for Education in 2016, with a real interest and passion for inclusion.

He has made a commitment to actively seek to increase the diversity of the department’s workforce at all levels, including senior roles.

He is the board sponsor for the LGBT+ Network, meeting regularly with the network, and has championed the introduction of gender neutral toilets in the department’s Coventry, London and Nottingham offices. He has been pushing for more inclusive procurement, as well driving a number of key cross-government issues forward. These have included engaging with Civil Service Employee Policy (CSEP) to create LGBT+ inclusive guidance for use across the entire civil service and the introduction of the ‘Mx’ title on the department’s HR system.

He is the first Permanent Secretary to attend the Stonewall face-to-face feedback meeting to hear first-hand about how the department might build on the positive work that has already been started, learn about best practice and lead change.'

Trans Role Model of the Year 2019:
Captain Hannah Graf MBE REME, The British Army
In 2013, Captain Hannah Graf came out as a trans woman and became the highest ranking trans person in the British Army.

Hannah has supported the army with updating its facilities and policies, including developing a new guide to gender identity. Alongside her work commitments, for five years she has been the trans representative for the Army’s LGBT forum.

(Hannah Graf and her husband Jake Graf are both patrons of Mermaids Charity)

I'm confused. Can anyone help me find the specific lists for gays and lesbians?

There's a list of all the top trans employers. The organisations have to 'profile' trans people in their communications, record extra gender identities and give money to trans organisations (like Stonewall for example).

I just can't see the same expectations about other groups- you know, the ones that have supported Stonewall for decades. It must be there- can someone link?

FactsAreNotMean · 23/01/2019 23:12

Well I can say for sure that one of their wonderfully non discriminatory top 100 is not so in to being fair and equal and making adjustments if you're a pregnant woman. But we're never discriminated against...

Blockyiursekf · 24/01/2019 15:33

So Newcastle City Council are more interested in being woke than fixing the potholes that blight the city. Idiots.

Pinsent Masons law firm came top.

Senior partner of that firm is David Isaac, current chair of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission and former chair of Stonewall from 2003-2012.

He was also a Director of the Big Lottery Fund until 2018.

His clients include HM Government and the BBC and the technology sector. He was deemed to be conflicted - because of his work advising the government - by some during his EHRC appointment (in particular, Maria Miller MP).
