Companies need to rethink their association with Stonewall

I see Stonewall's logo at the end of so many corporate emails. However given Stonewall's stance on self-id and its refusal to acknowledge the impact on women's rights I think that companies now need to rethink their association with this group. When I see the logo my first thoughts are that the company is supporting the perpetuation of "misogyny" rather than any feeling that the company is inclusive.
If intend to start flagging this up to companies who email me and include the Stonewall logo - which I now find offensive.

its a bit like the charity Its a Kids thing, they started out with the best intentions but then it all went horribly wrong once a lot of cash was at stake.

I think it would be better if we had an alternative to Stonewall. An LGB organisation, no overreach, no mission creep.
Without one, complaining about Stonewall just looks homophobic.
I'm sick to death of Stonewall and as a lesbian I think they don't give a monkey's about me. I'd happily support an alternative.

Yes saying . "The petition also asks us to acknowledge that there is a conflict between trans rights and ‘sex based women’s rights’. We do not and will not acknowledge this."

Is a roundabout way of saying we don't gaf about women and girls. Nothing ambiguous there.

Ocado are experiencing an intense removal of custom, other companies have had a slow trickle away. It's not just misogyny, it's disability discrimination and a company that doesn't value safety.

RealGhouls · 04/10/2018 17:46

I think we need a Stop Funding Hating Women campaign.

And starting with Stonewall.

They get soooooo much money. LGBT consultations, Stonewall champion schools, they are everywhere.

Stonewall OUT.

legion Vs h4h
I think we should be constructive. It's an awful lot of work but we should set up an alternative to Stonewall. Personally I'd call it Stormé.
Help for Heroes was set up and is now more popular than the Royal British Legion so it's not impossible.

What a great idea. The time is ripe for it.

Teli are weeping because stonewall isn’t invited to nhs equality & diversity conference but they hope ‘cisgender’ will be represent trans blah blah blah blah

IdahoCrow · 05/10/2018 00:07

Stormé would be superb.

miri1985 · 05/10/2018 00:32

Not just companies need to start rethinking their alliance other charities too especially rape crisis organisations. Every rape crisis organisation I've checked has stonewall listed as a resource or partner or whatever meanwhile stonewall is trying to get the type of sexual assault (also rape by deception) that Gayle Newland and Carlos Delacruz were convicted of.

How rape crisis organisations recommend them not only for that but for keeping someone on their board who employed their father accused of child rape as their election agent thereby giving him access to data and a position of power is beyond me.

miri1985 · 05/10/2018 00:35

Sorry missed a few words at the end of the first paragraph, should read "were convicted of removed as an offense so it doesn't violate a trans persons privacy never mind about anyone elses rights"

IdaBWells · 05/10/2018 00:48

Stonewall have just turned into a bunch of misogynistic bullies. I would be very glad to support a new organization.

InWomensProtection · 05/10/2018 01:01

Well some hard sell of stonewall going on in this thread, it like a new wave of MLM

Any Stonewall insiders about? The quickest way to set up an alternative would be to poach Stonewall's own staff.

MrsFogi · 05/10/2018 08:45

Creating an alternative is a great idea. I don't think I would be the right person to be involved in this but will be delighted if some MNers do.

Many of us have primary or secondary age kids- many UK schools proudly state how they have been involved in Stonewall’s initiatives.

I’ll bet a lot of school heads and governors and teachers still think Stonewall is just about equal rights for lesbian and gay people. It’s so the opposite of that now.

Sad maybe an email to the Head and chair of governors would be helpful, just noting the ipetition, and checking that the school has not ignored the obvious clash of rights?

(Borrowing ecosomething’s OP:

‘New petition launched calling on Stonewall to:

  • Acknowledge that there are a range of valid viewpoints around sex, gender and transgender politics
  • Acknowledge specifically the conflict that exists between transgenderism and sex-based women’s rights
  • Commit to fostering an atmosphere of respectful debate, rather than demonising as transphobic those who wish to discuss or dissent from Stonewall’s current policies.’

InWomensProtection · 05/10/2018 10:37

@chatty Is that the i petition they have put statement out about. Yh they can 🖕🏻

The answer is just stopping them from bullying everyone with threats. N.A.S I’m sure their is a lot of bullying going on behind the scene. I hope N.A.S don’t cave.

It just needs one to stand up and strong ie like N.A.S.

Companies need to rethink their association with Stonewall
MrsFogi · 05/10/2018 10:43

Good point ChattyLion I will email the dcs schools (in particular we are looking at secondary schools for one dc so I will be asking the question - if they are selling single sex education I need to know that it won't end up being mixed by the back door).

I like the alternative name, Stormé.
She is the true Stonewall after all.
Not this male travesty incarnation. Even headed by a female puppet.

Noqont · 05/10/2018 11:59

I think an alternative would be excellent.

ChattyLion · 05/10/2018 12:14

Yes that refusal to see there is any clash of rights is Stonewall’s er, response to the petition. More chat about it here:
