And not just unfit for purpose advice - but that which could be putting children and many women actively in harms' way - the very antithesis of what safeguarding is supposed to prevent.

Who benefits is the question to ask?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 11/01/2019 16:21

Even worse, the schools training actually places the children they are focusing on outside safeguarding frameworks afforded to all other children - eg confidential disclosures.

We seem to have reached the same conclusion Lang from different starting points. Great minds think alike - as with all the other great minds on here.

We are an awesome, collective, critical-thinking, expert, intelligent, analysis machine - better than any AI!!

Now, we just have to get someone to bloody listen and take action to stop this heinous scandal that has been rolled out covertly without informed consent. It really feels like stealthing in a different guise Angry

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 11/01/2019 16:57

This is a scandal. Members of political lobby groups have been allowed to train and influence safeguarding policy without themselves being trained in safeguarding or understanding it

This

LangCleg · 11/01/2019 17:12

Now, we just have to get someone to bloody listen and take action

Oh, if only.

FlyingOink · 11/01/2019 17:16

A small thing I plan to do is to point out publicly that Stonewall do not stand for me and I do not support them.
I won't accept them as the default "Voice of the Gays" one second longer.

Katvonbatshitmermaid · 11/01/2019 18:20

I was looking at the stonewall trans advisory group board, and saw another character who pops up on this board a lot. The final sentence of their bio is too easily humorous 👖🐍

Poor snakes. I feel sorry for snakes. 🐍

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/01/2019 18:35

And for ages I got Snakey Brown confused with Gordon’s wife and thought she’d loat the plot Big Time.

Needmoresleep · 11/01/2019 18:46

Lucky LibDems. AC is now a member. Is the Stonewall committee really representative of the TG community, and/or able/willing to articulate the views and concerns of the people it clams to represent. What processes does it use to do so. How does it recruit. Are consistent and objective (like the ability to understand concepts like safeguarding) used?

If not it may be little better than a self appointed, but very influential, clique.

Needmoresleep · 11/01/2019 18:50

I am also very curious about the members who have chosen the remain anonymous. I hope Stonewall clients like the NSPCC and the Girl Guides, who seek advice on LGBT issues, are briefed on the source and process behind such advice. It would be worrying if the desire for anonymity was because a person felt they would not withstand much public scrutiny.

ChewyLouie · 11/01/2019 18:59

The Stonewall clients dismantling safeguarding for girls are taking advice from anonymous members of a trans advocate group. The same clients are willing to exclude parents from knowing about transpeople their children may be in close contact with. Anonymous seems to be flavour of the day when it comes to safeguarding children.

FlyingOink · 11/01/2019 19:05

Anonymous members of a public advisory group?

“I hope the Lib Dems are paying attention to this.

They won't. And it will bite them on the arse eventually. “

The Lib Dem’s are utterly vile. They are the liars of British politics. They are as dishonest as politicians come.

R0wantrees · 11/01/2019 19:13

The important thing with Safeguarding is that people in positions of responsibility work at all times within the framework when they are impacting children and/or vulnerable adults
Their understanding and awareness of Safeguarding and Child Protection should inform how risks are recognised, assessed, prevented, managed and /or minimised.

Some policies which are created can risk damaging the Safeguarding frameworks, additionally a lack of understanding of what Safeguarding is means that those who should be protected are not, emerging risks are not identified or prevented etc

Popchyk · 11/01/2019 20:00

BBC covers the Verita report on the local news section.

Popchyk · 11/01/2019 20:02

AC stated: "Thankfully there is no evidence that anyone was close to harm as a result of their contact with the Green Party".

Proving yet again that AC doesn't even begin to understand what actually happened.

1hello2hello · 11/01/2019 20:11

Who knew the chief executive of the NUS is also a trustee of Stonewall? A rogue trans in Stonewall & a rogue trans/non-binary in NUS. Bit of a Lady Bracknell moment?

TimeLady · 11/01/2019 20:20

Looks as though Simon Blake left the NUS in October 2018

mhfaengland.org/mhfa-centre/ceo-blog/simon-blake-first-day-in-the-office-blog/

Didn't bother sticking around to sort out the Jess Bradley mess, it seems.

Popchyk · 11/01/2019 20:23

His tenure seems to have coincided with a sharp downturn in the NUS's financial stability.

1hello2hello · 11/01/2019 20:24

Ok thanks. I was going by his bio on Stonewall which obviously hasn't been updated.

Jess Bradley explained in their contribution to the book, 'To My Trans Sisters'
edited by Charlie Craggs (publ Oct 2017)

"The first time I changed the world was when I told my mates to call me she rather than he. I literally constructed a new world where its possible to understand myself as a genderqueer woman, despite being asigned male at birth simply by changing the language to describe myself. This is why language and pronouns are so important. Its about creating a world in which trans people are allowed to exist"

"And I can honestly say that the work that trans people do for each other means that, for me at least, the trans community is a beautiful place to be. Despite our differences, we have each others' backs"

the book is described:
"Dedicated to trans women everywhere, this inspirational collection of letters written by successful trans women shares the lessons they learnt on their journeys to womanhood, celebrating their achievements and empowering the next generation to become who they truly are.

Written by politicians, scientists, models, athletes, authors, actors, and activists from around the world, these letters capture the diversity of the trans experience and offer advice from make-up and dating through to fighting dysphoria and transphobia.

By turns honest and heartfelt, funny and furious or beautiful and brave, these letters send a clear message of hope to their sisters: each of these women have gone through the struggles of transition and emerged the other side as accomplished, confident women; and if we made it sister, so can you!"

It's the charity gravy train merry go round in action.

Like the CEO of Girl Guides, Julie Bentley, who moved on just as the shit hit the fan awkward questions started being asked last year too.

SlightAggrandising · 11/01/2019 20:35

Ratking

R0wantrees · 11/01/2019 20:49

Rose of Dawn's recent video in which she suggests that the NUS Trans19 conference at the end of the month may reveal the NUS' outcomes of the investigation into the allegations against Jess Bradley.

Bradley was suspended as NUS TRans officer in July following allegations including 'flashing'

Additionally, Action For Trans Health are investigating separate allegations against Bradley which predate the NUS focus.

It will be interesting to see if the NUS & Action For Trans Health understand Safeguarding, their responsibilities & demonstrate accountability
