Did anyone see the report on the evening news?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/health-46634595/should-the-nhs-pay-for-transgender-fertility-treatment

FFS, fertility treatment isn’t necessarily available for medical conditions - people choosing to take meds which sterilise them shouldn’t get preferential treatment

MutantDisco · 31/12/2018 18:54

I just can't understand why this was 'news' on NYE. They should have included a cancer patient or someone ineligible for IVF for 'balance', not three different types of transgender people.

A lot of people will have watched that with this face > Confused

Yes. Non-binary! What the fuck does that even mean and why does it mean they need fertility treatment? I really didn't get that bit. I'm technically non-binary. I don't identify as a gender. But I am a female. So I gave birth.

I guess they are gay? But that is too boring to state, so go down the non-binary route. And then claim transphobia.

I've probably (definitely?) been transphobic there.

NoseringGirl · 31/12/2018 18:57

I just saw that on the news! Why was the whole interview done with Cruella done while Cruella was applying make up? Seemed like a really strange addition to the piece.
The trans man at the end spoke a lot of sense.
I do feel for young people that are destroying their fertility from starting on this path at such a young age. However, so many people aren't eligible for fertility treatments (including some cancer patients) because the NHS just can't afford it. The massive increase in people going to gender identity clinics has to be funded somehow. I don't think adding fertility treatment to that would be sustainable.

Oh yes the woman wanting her sperm frozen Hmm
How can you transition to non binary? Confused

Vegilante · 31/12/2018 19:02

It's the fucking makeup that boils my piss. For FUCK SAKE.

MutantDisco · 31/12/2018 19:06

coco I said those exact words to DH

Btw if you haven't seen me on these threads before, it's because I had to NC after Glinner outed me on Twitter...

To show she's a proper woman. Wearing make up like a proper woman.

Unlike me. Not a proper woman. I don't wear make up.

BreconBeBuggered · 31/12/2018 19:07

Interesting choice of female name on the make-up addict woman, too.

Popchyk · 31/12/2018 19:07

Has the government actually put together projected financial costs for all medical and surgical treatments for all the people that Mermaids and the like are encouraging to believe they are in the wrong body?

How many people does the government think want lifelong hormone treatment? And what are the total costs for this? How many people does the government think want surgery? And what are the costs for this? And fertility treatment? Again, what are the costs?

And how much cash have the government put aside to settle all the lawsuits for regret in years to come?

I've never seen anything from the government which even touches on any of this.

MutantDisco · 31/12/2018 19:07

Thanks veg for earlier thread, who could have predicted that the BBC would make it headline news??

OP posts:
OhHolyJesus · 31/12/2018 19:11

I'm not sure I can watch that shit. How Cruella (I mean FFS Cruella?) said opportooniteee annoyed me for starters.

Anyone transitioning should have the information and then make a choice. If you proceed then your post code lottery applies. Just the same as everyone else with fertility problems.

Leave the fucking NHS alone, they work too long and hard to help people and sadly for you in hospitals science applies. Now fuck right off back to your make up and navel gazing.

ABitCrapper · 31/12/2018 19:12

Sorry - slight derail - Glinner outed you on twitter? Why would he do that?! Shock

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 31/12/2018 19:14

If there was any more proof needed that this is going to be pushed through regardless of what the public think....

Justhadathought · 31/12/2018 19:18

Honest to God! How is anyone taking this seriously....? And on the main BBC news......This is insane.

hipsterfun · 31/12/2018 19:19

Cruella Hmm

Justhadathought · 31/12/2018 19:20

The whole point of self Id is to remove the medical prognosis. Over-looking the fact that the requirement of fertility treatment, and ongoing hormone/surgical treatment for the rest of your life is very definitely a medical diagnosis.

MutantDisco · 31/12/2018 19:21

@ABitCrapper he didn't doxx me, he just mentioned my username in a tweet about MN GC crew and I was paranoid about the TRAs coming after me!

OP posts:
ABitCrapper · 31/12/2018 19:22

Ah phew! Misunderstood there

hipsterfun · 31/12/2018 19:24

I notice the doctor said it isn’t fair to expect ‘children’ to choose between transitioning and having children. But perfectly fine to let children choose lifetime medical treatment?

MutantDisco · 31/12/2018 19:29

I don't think children are capable of making these decisions, this is where Mermaids et al are bang wrong. It's safeguarding 101.

OP posts:
hipsterfun · 31/12/2018 19:31

The inconsistency is quite something.
