Radio 4 - 'cis' people who are 'safe in the world'

So angry. Just woke up to a discussion with Travis Top shop let me change with 12 year old girls or I'll scream and scream till I'm sick and some handmaiden writer. The whole thing was awful, one sided, and not challenged in any way by the presenter.
The real gem was when the handmaiden was talking about the duties of 'cis' people who are apparently 'safe in the world'.
Why was this left unchallenged?
Can anyone be so clueless that they do not realise women are NOT safe in this world. It's not even 8am and I want to tear my hair out.
Good morning.

Here's some background on Travis Alabanza:

I got as far as ‘performance artist’. Are they a drag queen then?

R0wantrees · 29/12/2018 11:19

Travis' recent performance piece, 'Burgerz'

I don't know. They are very gender non-conforming in their presentation and with this level of stunning and brave, it means that their fetishisation of teenage girls doesn't matter. Even when they've managed to force their way into teenage girls' changing rooms.

R0wantrees · 29/12/2018 11:34

Non-binary (regardless of sex) seems often to mean, I want access all areas on my terms because I say so.

howonearthdidwegethere · 29/12/2018 11:35

I was up at 5.45am so missed this but remember now DP crashing downstairs at 8.30am with a full on rant about "these sodding guest editors on the Today programme".

All makes sense now. Hmm

Ereshkigal · 29/12/2018 11:56

I'm with your DH Grin

Ereshkigal · 29/12/2018 11:58

Non-binary (regardless of sex) seems often to mean, I want access all areas on my terms because I say so.

YY. I've seen it often used to destabilise the idea of women's spaces even when they are inclusive of MTF trans people.

hipsterfun · 29/12/2018 12:58

LOL at the bit where Travis’s pal is explaining how sometimes it’s necessary to ‘step in and speak for them’ and Travis goes to speak and pal pauses and says “Go on, Travis”, and Travis says “Sorry to interrupt”.

Mate, just do your interview on your own Confused

GrumpyGran8 · 29/12/2018 13:20

Why was the whole stats on trans people being discriminated and attacked (stara from stonewall) not countered by the number of women murdered by men (I’m sure I saw a stat on twitter of 8 in the uk over Christmas?
I heard that on BBC breakfast News this morning. They had a man - a lawyer - talking about one of the recipients (I can't find her name anywhere - typical!) who campaigns against domestic violence. He actually stated that eight women had been murdered over Christmas "by their partner- male partner..."
I almost cheered when I heard him correct himself!

LaundryLaundryLaundry · 29/12/2018 13:43

The bullied becomes the bully. Poor misunderstood Travis feels intimidated in male spaces, but feels comfortable making women uncomfortable in female spaces. Right.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/12/2018 13:53

So little empathy it’s painful.

OrchidInTheSun · 29/12/2018 14:22

Travis deliberately presents themselves in a ay designed to draw attention to themselves and then gets upset when people notice them. Not a million miles away from that video from the game shop in Albuquerque is it?

R0wantrees · 29/12/2018 15:17

Travis Alabanza TedTalk
Nov 2017
'Who is allowed to be a victim?'

may provide context for how some such as the guest editor feel obligation to protect Travis

MadamBatty · 29/12/2018 15:26

Will that be a new role for women. Protectors for trans women so that they feel ‘safe’. Will we each be assigned our individual trans woman to meekly assist in their brave & stunningness?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/12/2018 15:37

Do trans men get a male minder then? Gosh, watching some of these trans women athletes you’d think they would have some special male super powers - like weight, height and muscle (and testosterone) advantage wouldn’t you

MadamBatty · 29/12/2018 15:42

Fekko natal women athletes just aren’t trying hard enough. They need trans women to show them what dedication really is. It’s part of their stunningness. Remember Kenny Everett’s Cunning Stunt?

MadamBatty · 29/12/2018 15:43

Doh I meant Kenny Everett’s Cupid Stunt. I blame lunchtime wine.

Neurotrash · 29/12/2018 16:02

Just listening.

Word salad.

Zero compassion for women and girls.

#Nodebate

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/12/2018 16:42

When I was little I thought Cupid Stunt was funny. Now I know it’s a crime of some sort.

nauticant · 29/12/2018 16:45

Or a documentary.

ChewyLouie · 29/12/2018 16:58

I only needed to listen to about a minute- keeps repeating he’s a worrier, explains a lot.Travesty.

He had no compunction about screeching against privacy for teenage girls in Topshop or maybe that was his warrior moment. A show of immense strength and courage supporting all males to access teenage girls in states of undress.
How does he face the females in his family and have the audacity To claim female protection in a radio interview? Shameless.

MadamBatty · 29/12/2018 17:05

Same Fekko

frazzled1 · 29/12/2018 17:35

Every day, when someone is born, without their consent, they are told that they are 'boy' or 'girl'... Hmm

Consent at birth matters to Travis.

Consent of 12 year old girls wishing to change in Top Shop amongst other females only and not adult male bodied strangers like Travis matters not one jot to Travis.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/12/2018 17:39

I suspect trivia doesn’t really carefully consider what they say as long as someone is listening.
