Misgendered and violent

I know it's from the Daily Mail, but I can't find anyone else reporting on it. I've never seen a woman tell a man to "take it outside" or aggressively kick a display down because they've accidentally been called "sir"... (hope the link works).

Re the military link (sorry to take hours, have been travelling), something that struck me is the possibility of untreated PTSD. We know in children that transgenderism is frequently linked with abuse and particularly teenage girls attempting to "identify out" of their own bodies. What if these military chaps are doing the same - trying to identify out of horrible things they may have seen (or worse, done)? This is where some kind of study would be helpful - were these people always AGP? What percentage came from difficult childhoods? How many went through traumatic tours of duty? How many bullied? How many gay?

This whole "Trump kicking TGs out of the military" thing has always sat badly with me and I think there's more to it than not wanting to spend Veterans money on surgery - I suspect there's a big "manliness" and psychological issue going on alongside (not necessarily from Trump himself, he's not that smart).

BelleHathor · 29/12/2018 16:54

I don't think Trump kicking out Trans from the military is about "manliness", apparently military leaders had been asking for it for years but the Obama administration was more concerned with appearing inclusive rather than military effectiveness. The high incidence of personality disorders within the transgender community is well known. Imagine if this person had a narc rage in the middle of a mission or the poor women in the military who would have to accommodate that behaviour with all the threatening behaviour. Bradley Manning assaulted a female soldier : www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/wikileaks/8964543/Bradley-Manning-attacked-female-soldier-and-sent-picture-of-himself-as-a-woman.html

silentcrow · 29/12/2018 16:59

"Manliness" as in, "not showing any psychological weakness", perhaps? I'm speculating a bit but I can imagine all sorts of tactics to try and get around laws that say "you can't fire someone on mental health grounds". Or some misguided agenda about preserving the image of the forces as "benign saviours" rather than "unhinged maniacs", particularly after Abu Ghraib.

I don't know, the whole thing is a twisted mess.

BelleHathor · 29/12/2018 17:23

I totally agree that it is a twisted mess and all we can do is speculate ☹

Jaxhog · 29/12/2018 20:12

Err, just because this person'is wearing earrings and carrying a pink bag doesn't mean they are obviously a woman! The poor shop assistant made an easy mistake.

I wish I had a $1 for every time I've been called sir (or emailed as sir, or received a letter addressed to me as 'sir'). I would be a rich woman. I've never ever threatened violence.

Tolerance works both ways.

TheMatriarch · 29/12/2018 20:44

This never happens.
(Has anyone said this yet?)

On the other hand, makes me wonder if I was far too passive in Thomas the Bakers when they misgendered me twice
If I’d kicked up a fuss might I have been given free cheese straws?

Iused2BanOptimist · 29/12/2018 22:47

Of course one can hardly credit Trump with a logical thought process but I imagine enthusiasm for keeping trans out of the military is to do with medical costs, battle readiness and mental health. Maybe.

Do we know how Caitlyn Jenner came out to his family as 'a woman's? He was caught trying on his teen daughters underwear
Envy barf. That's such a cute feminine thing to do. No wonder Jenner got a prize for glam-girl of the year, or something.

The Daily Mail story has been shared 50,000 times! Shock

BlackForestCake · 30/12/2018 07:10

The military has a very macho culture.

Very, very heavily invested in stereotypes of when men and women are supposed to be like.

Non-conformity is very bad.

Very little contact with women.

Deferring to authority is very important, especially if you are the one that others have to defer to.

It does not surprise me if men come out of this environment believing that if they have a thing for frilly knickers it means they're women.

Or that they demand people give them the recognition they believe that they're entitled to.

Wordthe · 30/12/2018 12:03

@EJennings, thank you for your very illuminating post!
I'm especially struck by this insight:

a novel way to occupy a niche where they outrank 50% of the population and also have a kind of free pass where men (so far) can’t challenge them (since they’re women and vulnerable, right?) I think that identifying as a woman, for these particular males, is a solution to authority issues. Which generally include anger issues

Being a transwoman means that you automatically outrank all women (because although you are a woman you still retain the essence of masculinity)
Transwomen vehemently insist that they are women, but their vehemence, along with the very public displays where they wipe the floor with women, constitutes a very clear message that they put themselves above women.
The free pass that they are claiming is another powerplay the fact that they have been given this free pass by many authorities is an acknowledgement that they are above everyone else.
Hahaha
we win
we have owned you all

Wordthe · 30/12/2018 12:16

Also what you say about Manning here makes total sense to me
I do not think he leaked info or reasons of conscience. I think that’s a rationale that came later. I think it was an enactment of cosmic punishment for perceived slights from those in authority
The leak was an act of revenge against his superiors, the subsequent transition is a way of mocking them and taking control preventing them from punishing him because he is now a vulnerable person, etc

abbsisspartacus · 30/12/2018 12:38

Well I shared it on Facebook and the one of the guy being threatened I've got my wrists slapped for violating community guidelines 🙄 they deleted them but when I reported a graffic rape and a child abuse video they said they didn't

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 30/12/2018 12:54

Agree with what has been said about the military.

I watched a video on YouTube by KB (not saying that they are the person in GameStop, but I was led to the vid via speculation that they were), and I was struck by the reversal of power play that becoming trans had seemingly given KB.

They had, from at least teenage, been a violent dominator, from Jock to Navy Seal. Had lost a marriage and a relationship with his older children because he “didn’t behave great” violent and abusive would be my translation of that and had a breakdown. Enter stage right, his female self, who is his true self, who is terribly victimized by society and has always been the victim. Had she been allowed to come forth before, none of the violent dominating behaviour would have happened.

The old self is destroyed and the true self steps forward all shiny and new. Accept KB has no intention of relinquishing all the “Hero” accolades, the medals and the social status that their sanctioned violent domination has afforded them, which is how I know it is all bollocks and simply a psychological abdication of responsibility for their behavior.

I do think it’s likely linked to PTSD and is a form of dissacosiative identity disorder coupled with a personality disorder, but that is speculation as I am not an expert in the field.

silentcrow · 30/12/2018 12:56

Yes, thank you for the military insights - really interesting. It's hard to even begin to imagine the power plays going on in a closed system like that, but it's no wonder it erupts out into civilian life.

Wordthe · 30/12/2018 12:59

Dissociative identity disorder coupled with a personality disorder

Taking the piss disorder more like 🤣

Seems the person in the original story is becoming internet famous under the nickname:

"Macho Ma'am Tranny Savage"

@dryheave my 3 year old made that mistake. DH said "ok ma'am" to her and she was outraged and replied "daddy I'm not a man!"

She didn't smash anything though she just carried on eating her tea...

I used to get mistaken for a boy a lot as a child, due to being a short-haired 'tomboy'. I was probably secretly quite happy. Blush

Most people on being 'misgendered' in RL just carry on, or are a tiny bit embarrassed. Rather than smashing shit up 🙄🙄

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 30/12/2018 15:45

Because women (and women in training) don’t smash things up at every perceived sleight.
