Rose of Dawn on need for accountability in the NUS and Action For Trans Health re Jess Bradley allegations

Rose of Dawn provides significant updates as well as making important & nuanced points in this podcast:

'Jess Bradley: Still Suspended, Still Silence'
NUS Trans Officer Jess Bradley has been suspended for almost five months without a word from the failing student organisation. With more allegations against Bradley emerging, just what are they hiding?

as Rose of Dawn makes clear, that there are allegations does not presume a person's guilt. Organisations have a duty of care and responsibility to be accountable to all of those involved.

They can’t keep stum forever on this.....we’re not forgetting

VickyEadie · 14/12/2018 11:10

"New allegations"? I've missed these, can one ask what they are?

R0wantrees · 14/12/2018 11:16

Its worth listening to the podcast.
They relate to Action For Trans Health rather than the NUS.

When you read this, and Leanne's story on the DM thread you realise that there is such a gulf between Leanne and Bradley, and what they need and want. Yet it is Bradley and ATH who was given the platform to speak at the Maria Millar enquiry.

You wonder (or maybe we know) whose needs were being served.

Terfing · 14/12/2018 12:28

What are the new allegations please?

Needmoresleep · 14/12/2018 12:37

You might need to look at Rose of Dawn Twitter. There was an earlier thread asking what could be written here, and I think it was felt that a link to something already out there, plus screenshots, was OK. But don't know if the thread survived.

sackrifice · 14/12/2018 12:47

Terfing...it is in Rose of Dawn's link above.

R0wantrees · 14/12/2018 12:56

A lot of people from transgender communities had a platform. Many of whom in age, experience etc might have more in common with Leanne than Jess.

It was women (adult human females) who weren't heard.

Very interesting.

Jess can't hide forever. There are too many of us determined to keep the light of accountability firmly focussed in their direction.

Melamin · 14/12/2018 13:19

Yes of course - I always get knocked sideways by the fact that they gave as much weight as they did to ATH when, even if you look at their info that they want you to look at, they do not look at all sensible.

BettyDuMonde · 14/12/2018 13:49

Rose is like a Jack Russell terrier with a chamois leather when it comes to the Jess Bradley scandal!

Keep going Rose 🌹

I think it probably suited others within the trans lobby to have younger people sitting and speaking alongside older people.

I have wondered for example how Sue Pascoe (Conservative, previous Master of the Hunt from Yorkshire, previously self described 'alpha male') could ally with Jess Bradley (self described communist, vegan naturist, environmentalist, prison abolisionist)

Jess Bradley explained this though in their contribution to the book, 'To My Trans Sisters'
edited by Charlie Craggs (publ Oct 2017)

"The first time I changed the world was when I told my mates to call me she rather than he. I literally constructed a new world where its possible to understand myself as a genderqueer woman, despite being asigned male at birth simply by changing the language to describe myself. This is why language and pronouns are so important. Its about creating a world in which trans people are allowed to exist"

"And I can honestly say that the work that trans people do for each other means that, for me at least, the trans community is a beautiful place to be. Despite our differences, we have each others' backs"

the book is described:
"Dedicated to trans women everywhere, this inspirational collection of letters written by successful trans women shares the lessons they learnt on their journeys to womanhood, celebrating their achievements and empowering the next generation to become who they truly are.

Written by politicians, scientists, models, athletes, authors, actors, and activists from around the world, these letters capture the diversity of the trans experience and offer advice from make-up and dating through to fighting dysphoria and transphobia.

By turns honest and heartfelt, funny and furious or beautiful and brave, these letters send a clear message of hope to their sisters: each of these women have gone through the struggles of transition and emerged the other side as accomplished, confident women; and if we made it sister, so can you!"

Probably best to start a new thread if you want to discuss it. The last one got deleted, it'd be a shame to get this thread deleted also.

Needmoresleep that thread was deleted while MN "look into it" or something along those lines. I have no idea if they came back with a definite response.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/12/2018 17:10

well I never.

CrazyToast · 14/12/2018 17:19

Perhaps we need to put some pressure on the NUS over this, lest they just let it slip quietly away.

AnyFucker · 14/12/2018 17:21

Keep at it, Rose Flowers

Theswaggyotter · 14/12/2018 17:34

Wow! Can’t believe there has been no action yet. ? Criminal charges pending?
Good on rose of dawn for keeping going with this

boatyardblues · 14/12/2018 21:10

Something very odd happens when I click on Rose of Dawn’s twitter link (screenshot attached). I’m not logged onto Twitter, so won’t be on a block list. Are Rose’s tweets protected, or has Rose been shadow banned?

boatyardblues · 14/12/2018 21:11

This has been happening since earlier this week, when posters were giving the same link in another thread.

Melamin · 14/12/2018 21:24

That happens sometimes when I click on mobile twitter links when I am on the PC. I refresh or sometimes I just wait and it sorts itself out eventually. Thought maybe it was a slow connection.

Voice0fReason · 14/12/2018 23:51

Rose is doing a great job of not letting this go.
