www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6449179/Former-soldier-sues-reporter-misgendering-people-Facebook-posts.html

Beth Rep, a feminist, paid for MTF Clinch's flights from Brisbane to Canberra to attend mediation in July, the intent of which from Clinch was to silence Beth Rep's FB page.

It is hard to see how any but the most entitled male could argue that she should be silenced from her own personal FB page, which is only visible to people who choose to view it, and which is it somehow made its way onto Clinch's radar e.g. via Sharing, could easily be blocked using FB's tools.

However, that is indeed what Clinch was & is complaining about

See
reason.com/assets/db/1528650368299.pdf "Name of organisation - Beth Rep (Facebook)" "Treated unfavourably because of my gender identity"
reason.com/assets/db/15286524027731.pdf

Also:
"I have spoken to Ms Clinch about what she is seeking to resolve her complaint, and she has advised that she is seeking the following:
An apology;
An undertaking from you not to post anti-trans or vilifying posts in future, and to remove those that are currently on your public Facebook profile;
A further undertaking from you to remove any anti trans and vilifying posts made by other people from your public profile, and to do this in the future if any more such posts are made; and
For you to participate in training about vilification, and trans' issues. "

Note that the complaint is basically a Human Rights Commission-type thing, the same sort of structure used to bully women into waxing the balls of paedophiles in Canada.

There is more detail on the July complaint here reason.com/volokh/2018/06/15/australian-politican-and-trans-activist

(The Daily Mail describes Rep as a 'radio reporter', from what I can see she is the news announcer on 1053 Canberra, which is a very minor AM radio station in one city, with a tiny audience, and it is not a role that would appear to afford her a voice to share feminist/gender-critical opinion - she is literally just being attacked for her Facebook account.)

(Oh, Clinch, predictably, stood for the Greens as a candidate in 2016)

"Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."

"There's no need for it to be this way - just do as you're told, and no-one will get hurt"

"I'm sure you didn't mean to hurt me - be a good girl, and apologise"

I swear TRAs are using the abusers' handbook as as how to guide

They claim to be female but they bully like men. Hmm I see them as third gender and do do most people. No amount of chucking their weight around legally or policing speech will change that. I don’t even see why they want to, given the idea of third gender is widely accepted.

JellySlice · 04/01/2019 06:56

What 'third gender'?Hmm

Juells · 04/01/2019 07:13

I see them as third gender and so do most people.

I think it would be more accurate to say that some people would be prepared to pretend to see them as a third gender. 99.9% of the rational people in the world know there are only two sexes.

BoffinMum · 04/01/2019 08:04

Something like that, Juells, but a caveat that some people have chromosomes that are not XX or XY so there’s a bit of natural variation. Vanishingly rare though.

SlowlyShrinking · 04/01/2019 08:14

I don’t think most people see trans people as a “third gender” or accept the idea that there is such a thing as a third gender. Having recently had the experience of there being a tw visiting a place of work that I was also visiting, and hearing the comments made after the tw left, I’m pretty sure that most people probably don’t accept twaw, either (although this is obviously anecdotal)

JellySlice · 04/01/2019 08:50

Nope. Having a Y chromosome makes the person male, having no Y chromosome makes the person female, no matter what their external appearance. Having no X chromosome at all is incompatible with life.

Two exceptions that I know of make a person whose appearance is that of the opposite sex to their genetic sex: a vanishingly rare gene defect where a piece of the Y chromosome is transferred to an X chromosome creates an apparently male person, and slightly less rare Complete Androgen Insensitivity syndrome creates an apparently female person.

The only Disorder of Sexual Development that is truly a spectrum is Androgen Insensitivity.

There is no third sex.

AngryAttackKittens · 04/01/2019 09:08

Even 5 years ago referring to trans people "third gender" was viewed as Practically Murder by the more excitable TRAs.

(Much to the confusion of the people in cultures where it's a common way of framing things, but Western TRAs are ideally situated to explain to people in those countries how their culture ought to work, right? Because they're intersectional.)

ErrolTheDragon · 04/01/2019 09:09

Conflating intersex conditions with trans? - with your name you should know better, BoffinMum! There's no evidence afaik the individual in this case has an intersex condition.

Clinch also claims "“ex-military man” [in The Australian] is just there to draw attention to my past to de-legitimise my current existence and legal and medical identity as a woman. "

from the choice of T-shirt above I wouldn't have guessed Clinch would in any way be shy about having a military past and being trans, on the contrary proud of it.Confused

I've contributed to Beth's gofund me, I'd urge any women here who can to do so also the result of this legal fight impact us all. This is one way we need to be using the money we no longer donate to the mainstream charities who claim the definition of women has changed.

Juells · 04/01/2019 10:31

I've contributed to Beth's gofund me,

Me too. Only $20, but every little helps. I make a point of donating to fundraisers like this, or to women's refuges that are losing funding because they're exclusively female.

NotYourCisterinAus · 08/01/2019 00:43

Bumping for the fundraiser. (And yes, I've donated. I'll do so again next payday.)

Ereshkigal · 08/01/2019 00:50

Will be popping some money in on payday.

VovoBickie · 08/01/2019 01:05

I chipped in. No one should be compelled to bow to someone else's religion

AussieBeth · 08/01/2019 11:52

Beth here, I just want to thank you all so much for your support and your generosity in helping me out with my legal fees Flowers

LangCleg · 08/01/2019 11:58

Welcome to FWR, AussieBeth and all the best with this. I hope the support and donations help.

StarsAndWater · 08/01/2019 13:10

Welcome, AussieBeth and best of luck with the hearing. It's ridiculous you're even having to defend yourself in this. We're all behind you.

GrinitchSpinach · 30/01/2019 18:10

Just wanted to bump this good cause during Women Stand Up week. Her fundraiser hasn't yet reached the full goal and is a deserving cause.

Best wishes and solidarity to AussieBeth. Flowers

NotYourCisterinAus · 30/01/2019 23:06

Donated, and bumping. Halo

Oldermum156 · 31/01/2019 16:57

Nothing ever embarrasses the Guardian. They have bought in entirely, and then they whine to me for money every time I deign to click on one of their terrible articles.

Oldermum156 · 31/01/2019 17:00

@BoffinMum

Even in the US which in mainsteam press the standard is to always refer to people as the gender they choose, the majority isn't buying it and sees people as their birth sex. 54% believe sex is determined at birth. Possibly more do but were afraid to say it even anonymously in a study, given the current political environment.
