www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6449179/Former-soldier-sues-reporter-misgendering-people-Facebook-posts.html

Beth Rep, a feminist, paid for MTF Clinch's flights from Brisbane to Canberra to attend mediation in July, the intent of which from Clinch was to silence Beth Rep's FB page.

It is hard to see how any but the most entitled male could argue that she should be silenced from her own personal FB page, which is only visible to people who choose to view it, and which is it somehow made its way onto Clinch's radar e.g. via Sharing, could easily be blocked using FB's tools.

However, that is indeed what Clinch was & is complaining about

See
reason.com/assets/db/1528650368299.pdf "Name of organisation - Beth Rep (Facebook)" "Treated unfavourably because of my gender identity"
reason.com/assets/db/15286524027731.pdf

Also:
"I have spoken to Ms Clinch about what she is seeking to resolve her complaint, and she has advised that she is seeking the following:
An apology;
An undertaking from you not to post anti-trans or vilifying posts in future, and to remove those that are currently on your public Facebook profile;
A further undertaking from you to remove any anti trans and vilifying posts made by other people from your public profile, and to do this in the future if any more such posts are made; and
For you to participate in training about vilification, and trans' issues. "

Note that the complaint is basically a Human Rights Commission-type thing, the same sort of structure used to bully women into waxing the balls of paedophiles in Canada.

There is more detail on the July complaint here reason.com/volokh/2018/06/15/australian-politican-and-trans-activist

(The Daily Mail describes Rep as a 'radio reporter', from what I can see she is the news announcer on 1053 Canberra, which is a very minor AM radio station in one city, with a tiny audience, and it is not a role that would appear to afford her a voice to share feminist/gender-critical opinion - she is literally just being attacked for her Facebook account.)

(Oh, Clinch, predictably, stood for the Greens as a candidate in 2016)

Here's Clinch's Twitter:

twitter.com/CaptainBridget

which links to FB statement

www.facebook.com/notes/bridget-clinch/gutter-media-strikes-again/959961317541350/

This is a predictable mess of insults - 'chimpanzee', 'terf', 'neo nazi', 'nutter', etc.

Clinch also claims "“ex-military man” [in The Australian] is just there to draw attention to my past to de-legitimise my current existence and legal and medical identity as a woman. "

as if Clinch's videos, photos and behaviour didn't do that very effectively.

this is a freedom of conscience issue

I look at Bridget Clinch and see a male born individual

why should I not be able to acknowledge that?

when that individual starts being prescriptive about what women can do and say and how feminism should be defined, it becomes particularly important to be able to acknowledge that that person was born male

I'm also looking at you here MNHQ. that sentence was torturous to write (and probably to read). It could have been condensed into 3 words.

QuietContraryMary · 03/12/2018 08:53

Clinch is a father of three and a Guardian columnist, fairly predictably.

www.theguardian.com/profile/bridget-clinch

Clinch is not just a random down-trodden transwoman being harassed by terf Nazis, but in reality a political figure who demands public cash for gender ops, etc.

yup. just another male born person trying to control women

it would be boring if it wasn't so incredibly offensive

Just an entitled bully really. Me, me, me & me.

Ereshkigal · 03/12/2018 09:05

I don't think they care if they convince us. The power is in making us comply.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/12/2018 09:07

Nope, Cinch, not happening, and someone who works for a newspaper ought to know why journalists need to be free to say what they really think in print. Though I suppose when you work for The Guardian it's unsurprising that you might get a bit confused.

QuietContraryMary · 03/12/2018 09:17

Not really 'in print', ze is just complaining about her FB page.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/12/2018 09:19

Can you imagine if she'd "misgendered" in an article, if this person thinks FB should be subject to their control?

Also I see absolutely no reason why anyone should pay the travel fees of the person harassing them via the legal process. Not sure if she was compelled to do so or if that was an attempt to make Cinch see reason.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/12/2018 09:26

I hope the Guardian is embarrassed.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/12/2018 09:29

The thing is, "misgendering" is not actually illegal, except in New York and possibly parts of Canada? So this case should have no legs at all. But apparently not having the law on your side doesn't matter if you have the power of the TRA army to make your life absolutely miserable behind you.

Bittermints · 03/12/2018 09:34

Fantastic article about free speech and the privatisation of the public discourse here.

NotMeOhNo · 03/12/2018 10:10

That is a very poorly written article.

LangCleg · 03/12/2018 10:13

Vile.

Bowlofbabelfish · 03/12/2018 10:20

There’s a definite flavour of wanting money from everyone to do whatever someone wants to in this movement isn’t there? Massive entitlement, a dinstinct lack of drive and skills and hard work to earn one’s own money and an entitlement to everyone else’s ...

Pay me for being me.

gingerpusscat · 03/12/2018 10:26

Bittermints, what a read! I just sent it to my brother, who, while being very GC, is in denial about the sinister power driving this ideology.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/12/2018 10:28

Yep, Bowl. The movement is a magnet for grifters.

StarsAndWater · 03/12/2018 17:56

Just one more bully. And this isn't just about Beth Rep. It's a threat to all women. 'Do as I say or there'll be consequences.'
Clinch can bugger off with that.
Does anyone know if Rep has (or needs) legal support? Happy to put a few bob into a crowdfunder.

NotYourCisterinAus · 04/12/2018 05:39

I'm also up for slinging a few dollars towards a crowdfunder. I'd hope any judge would throw the case out, but in the Australian Capital Territory you never can tell.

Danaquestionseverything · 06/12/2018 12:18

Sorry for bumping this post up again. Honestly I can't help feeling we are screwed over completely here in Australia.

The only people speaking out against this, that have any type of public platform, are conservative/Christian. So frustrating, because due to the still fairly recent (just over a year) vote for marriage equality, it's easy for opponents to point to their bigotry/bias. The problem is, yes they are right about homophobia and bigotry in that situation, but none of those changes impacted Women's Rights.

All the "mainstream" feminists have drank the koolaid. There is no support from there. It is so hard not to become disillusioned. One recent person speaking against children transitioning was Barnaby Joyce, JFC, probably the most unpopular politician (if he still is because tbh I switch off when he's mentioned) the only reason I know he has is that a certain high profile mother of a trans child has been ranting on twitter.

Speaking of grifters though, of course there are children's books promoting transgenderism she has published, and constantly promotes. Now I understand the need of parents of transgendered children to want to attempt to help the public at large to understand the struggles of the kids. Write a novel, create a blog, gear it towards parents, knock yourself out. But when you're writing picture books for young children? IMO that falls under the category of "things that make you go hmmm".

In reflection maybe "grifter" is harsh as she has produced a product, still, I just keep seeing so many TRA's profiting. Patreons, Go Fund Me's and self promoting products abound.

happydappy2 · 06/12/2018 15:46

The whole concept of misgendering is a bit whooly. Is it really going to become a hate crime to say person X was born a man but now lives presenting as a woman. You just can't force people to state what they know is untrue.....we have eyes FFS

FWRLurker · 06/12/2018 16:01

"misgendering" is not actually illegal, except in New York"

Do you know if this is NYC or NYS??? I really hope the former...

welshgendercrit · 06/12/2018 20:31

Fantastic article about free speech and the privatisation of the public discourse here.

Not any more there isn't, bittermints Sad That's the second or third article on Medium which TRAs have managed to get taken down very soon after publication recently.
