ESRC sending millions of pounds to Sally Hines / Leeds Uni to research gender bollocks

Ht (twitter.com/DaveDavidDave_/status/1064836550448619522)

There's £700k, for example, for 'Living Gender in Diverse Times'

This features a motley crew of gender cultists:

Helen [redacted] (credited only as 'Helen', and with the email adress of press@mermaids) (she's on twitter as @mimmymum and has an adoring audience of diaper fetishists & furries as she says how great puberty blockers)

Meg-John Barker (partner of Edward Lord, non-binary freemason & big-time TRA), previously featured here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3339137-BACP-Gender-Sexual-and-Relationship-Diversity-by-Dr-Meg-John-Barker

Anna Carlile - gender cultist lecturer at Goldsmiths and Mermaids advocate

Justin Hancock - is a double act with Meg-John Barker (above) megjohnandjustin.com/about-us/

Ruth Pearce - Leeds Uni gender cultist ruthpearce.net/

Emma Renold - professor of childhood studies, promotes transgender identity to children www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5932855/Transgender-muffin-challenge-young-people-reads-like-satire.html

Vanita Sundaram - intersectional feminist type, busy retweeting tweets from TW calling for Rachel Stock to be fired for transphobia twitter.com/VanitaSundaram

Liam Tielemans - works for some sort LGBT charity. Strangely, the emphasis seems to be on the T. www.lgbtconsortium.org.uk/node/3308

Strangely there does not seem to be any non-kool-aid drinkers among their number.

It's not really surprising this crap becomes law & public policy when there's a never-ending stream of cash, public (as here), semi-public (like BBC CiN), and private (Lloyds, etc.)

Follow the money.

Bowl, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and I foolishly thought we were moving towards that kind of world. Where did it all go wrong?

Bowlofbabelfish · 20/11/2018 17:52

A while back someone posted the ESRC research proposal - it was worded as ‘this is the outcome and the research will be to find it.’

Let me try to find the thread.

Bittermints · 20/11/2018 17:56

Blimey. I posted this in relation to something else yesterday, but it's a hardy perennial and useful in all sorts of situations. calteches.library.caltech.edu/51/2/CargoCult.pdf

Bowlofbabelfish · 20/11/2018 17:58

As a poster on o e ofbthese threads points out, there are five main aims of the pregnant men project.

The welfare of the foetus or baby is NOT among them.

Anyway, here are the threads that talk about the project.

According to DH (academic sociologist) this is a fairly average grant and you spend it on wages.

£700k would get you:

Some of the time of the principle investigator (lecturer salary)
Salary for 1 or 2 post-docs
1 or 2 PhD students
Lots will go on University overheads
Prob not enough money for an admin person - would need a bigger grant for that

All for duration of project - 3 yrs at least if you are employing PhD students, less if you are employing post-docs.

However if less time you risk not getting anything done except writing a proposal asking for more money...

It's about looking at and deconstructing the stereotypes that constrict our daughters and prevent them from playing football or doing maths A level.

To add to Bowl's excellent points 1 to 3, let's also get every sport to put 'Men's' in front of those matches every time, just like they do for 'Women's football'.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 20/11/2018 18:11

I have noticed that almost every trans person I meet who is in employment works in "diversity" or something focussed on trans issues.

It's fascinating.

Almost as if it's a job creation scheme.

breastfeedingclownfish · 20/11/2018 18:17

You know what's a fast track towards preventing them playing football (or any other sport)? Making them play against boys who identify as girls and having to share the same changing spaces and showers afterwards.

This^

AspieAndProud · 20/11/2018 18:27

You know what's a fast track towards preventing them playing football (or any other sport)? Making them play against boys who identify as girls and having to share the same changing spaces and showers afterwards.

Yep, boys thrashing girls at sport and then getting to watch them naked afterwards. Can’t see why girls aren’t falling over themselves for this.

LangCleg · 20/11/2018 18:28

Proper research, not research where the end outcome is already set.

Yes, quite. Sally has done a navel-gazing thought experiment and has received £1m plus to achieve social engineering on the basis of it. Staggering, really, isn't it? She should be doing thought experiments based on the results of research, not designing research to provide a conclusion she's already reached.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 20/11/2018 18:39

Are there not ethics boards any more?

Needmoresleep · 20/11/2018 18:43

Research proposal:

To look at the effectiveness and reach of Stonewall.

This might include looking reviewing CVs on Diversity, Communications and HR people across the City, Charity and Public Sectors, using Linked In to see how many have Stonewall at the backgrounds.

To review diversity training programmes in public and commercial sectors and links providers have with Stonewall

MP/Minister contacts

Media exposure

Equalities policies - how many drafted with Stonewall advice and reflecting Stonewall trans aims.

Further research:

Governance of Stonewall , and the extent to which priorities and aims reflect those of its members/stated LGBT+ population

Research lead: R0wantrees

Research support: MN hive mind

Supporting Institution: Gulag University in partnership with Goldsmiths

approved

adulthumanandtired · 20/11/2018 19:02

Still, it must make them really cross when despite all this injection of cash, they can’t persuade people or force people to agree with their flawed ideology.
If anything the more it’s discussed in MSM the more resistance is generated, the comments in the Telegraph today were telling.
No wonder universities are into no-platforming, they know which side their bread is buttered on.

SomeDyke · 20/11/2018 19:15

A pregnant transmen project when there only are 40 -- they are going to have some sample-size problems with that lot, surely. Seems incredibly small-scale.........

I just chuckled at the "Dissemination events" quote............

spannablue · 20/11/2018 19:21

Why do people keep going on about Goldsmiths?

Needmoresleep · 20/11/2018 19:29

Because their students suggested sending us to the gulags

Original tweet is gone but it is captured here

Many plans have been made. Join us?

spannablue · 20/11/2018 19:45

That seems to be a student in charge of a student Twitter account that was then suspended by the SU which in any case is separate from the university.

Goldsmiths as in the university itself has done some amazing work eg Centre for Forensic Architecture (on Grenfell Tower) and loads on refugees. There are gender critical feminists there too who have good and (yes sometimes heated) debates with non-gender critical feminists (in the Centre for Feminist Research).

QuietContraryMary · 20/11/2018 19:50

Also Goldsmiths is generally the home of the ultra-woke, e.g., Lily Madigan.

Home of idiots like Bahar Mustafa (she of kill all white men fame)

"I am particularly interested in looking at the gendered body in Japanese pornographic anime and horror through a Foucauldian framework in order to analyse the West’s gaze upon a world it attempts to categorize,” Mustafa wrote. “My politics are intersectional, queer, feminist, anti-racist . . . I am a working class, Turkish Cypriot, queer, disabled woman and activist.”'

Their feminist society condoned the silencing of a woman (Maryam Namazie by aggressive men goldfemsoc.tumblr.com/post/134396957048/goldsmiths-feminist-society-stands-in-solidarity

LangCleg · 20/11/2018 20:03

Oh, do you know Goldsmiths well, spanna? We have at least one alumnus on FWR. They wax somewhat less lyrical than you.

spannablue · 20/11/2018 20:17

I'd noticed.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/11/2018 20:32

Lots will go on University overheads

Yes, heaps will get creamed off.

anniehm · 20/11/2018 20:38

They have competed for the money by filling in a detailed proposal, it's really hard to get funding (in the sciences at least) so the project will have been evaluated carefully. Money isn't awarded on a whim

spannablue · 20/11/2018 20:41

Exactly

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 20/11/2018 20:45

Potentially then Sally Hines value to her university lies in her success at bringing in the big funding bids. Lots of people were wondering yesterday hearing her debate with Prof Stock how she could have her position when she seemingly can't defend her own position.

But I suppose that doesn't recognise that since the funding model changed, universities now are about bringing in the grant funding and the foreign students - so being able to see which way the wind is blowing, lobbying and writing bids are maybe more valued in academia these days.

It's something to think about in terms of our children going to uni. Not just the fees and the debt but what are they actually getting taught and by whom? It's sad that even academia these days is more about the short term objectives of those involved (comfortably salary, status) than a 'higher purpose'. Maybe it always was? I think though the low salary was usually enough to put off the more self interested?
