Writing from Twitter prison!

I've received a twelve-hour ban from Twitter so I thought I'd take the chance to say hello lovely mumsnetters! Thank you for all the support and kind words and very proud to be on your side.

I'm not deleting the tweets because I stand by them and there's nothing offensive about them. See for thyself, fellow witches!

Wow, glinner! Am so excited you are on this thread as I have been a massive fan of your work for over 20 years.

Thanks so much for everything you are doing for women and am shocked at your twitter ban! So much for free speech!

cooblanket · 16/11/2018 18:17

Thank you for all you've been doing.

While you're here, I have to tell you this, a few weeks ago on holiday my wee boy said "Aww, look at that tiny car" because it was a distance away and we were higher up than it. I'm sure you can guess how I responded Grin

Glinner · 16/11/2018 18:17

Just don't let anyone bamboozle you or shame you into not saying what is true and right. And follow people like DocStock (I can't check twitter to tell you the right usernames), Debbie Hayton, Jonny Best etc.

The other day I saw a woman react furiously to the suggestion that she MUST consent to being searched by male-bodied people in whatever security situation the conversation was about. The woman said something like "I've been raped, felt up and abused by various men at various times in my life so you can fuck off."

But I found it very cheering because I thought, they thought they'd get away with this stealthy social engineering, but of course, they won't because of women like her, who won't be shamed into giving up hard-won rights

Jonny and Graham, I'm not on Twitter, so can thank you both here instead.

Rape threats, threats of violence, outright lies about people, all cool according to Twitter. State the bloody obvious about some people involved in TRA and get a ban.

Tis a crazy time.

Glinner · 16/11/2018 18:19

sorry, that took a while and the question i was responding to is miles away.

Hi Glinner, I'd just like to say I love your work, and thanks for taking such a brave stance for women and girls on Twitter!

ArkeNOTen · 16/11/2018 18:22

Glimmer can you tell us your peak trans moment please?

Also what made you so militant about this issue - it’s not the ‘only’ massive fuck up about the place currently ;-)

R0wantrees · 16/11/2018 18:23

@Glinner while you're here and not reading tweets, can I encourage you to have a look at Lisa Muggeridge's videos and her recent treatment please?

It's discussed on this thread about what is an appalling piece of propaganda writing:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3424466-Open-Democracy-Hit-Piece

Lisa is a social worker and has considerable professional and personal understanding of the Care system and how safeguarding works and is being damaged.
She like you is often targetted, banned on twitter but has been really personally attacked and put at risk. Now under so much pressure she has posted what she says is her last youtube video:

LiverpoolReSisters · 16/11/2018 18:26

Twitter is enemy territory. Enjoy the rest here - we have Cake

Glinner · 16/11/2018 18:26

it's the only one I feel I can make a difference on. And I think it's my duty to speak about it until women can do it without fear of being harrassed, fired from their jobs etc.

and I consider myself on the Left so I always work from the starting point that you clean your own house first.

Delighted to see you here. In a sludge of misery over this senseless debacle it’s good to get the breeze of a stranger walking alongside us. Lifts the spirits a smidge.

LiverpoolReSisters · 16/11/2018 18:28

Your work is appreciated, undoubtedly.

FrumpyTrumpy · 16/11/2018 18:32

Oooh should Mn set up a special "celebrity Twitter Jail" section? Maybe we will get Jo Brand Robert webb and Jk Rowling too Grin.

Hello and welcome to MN or have you been here before?

Glinner · 16/11/2018 18:32

peak trans moment was very early on, when someone refused to speak at a conference with me. They said they'd appear if they could make a brief statement about me. I said sure, but I would be listening and so would my lawyers. So she just cancelled.

I was bluffing of course, I didn't have any lawyers. I do now though and they're very good.

Glinner, you should wheel out that diagram Ted drew for Dougal, you know the one, imagination inside your head, reality outside your head.

FrumpyTrumpy · 16/11/2018 18:35

I suspect the vast majority of people who actually understand what's going on aren't happy with any of this but everyone is too damnded scared of saying so.

CAAKE · 16/11/2018 18:39

G'day Glinner and welcome GinCake

BitOfFun · 16/11/2018 18:40

Done, @Glinner. Glad to have a chance to be of some small assistance after everything you have done for us.

UpstartCrow · 16/11/2018 18:43

Would you like a cup of tea? Brew Grin

Fanning myself (either a menopausal hot flush or fangirl moment). Welcome to the nest of vipers, both of you.

Ah yes, that small/far away moment. Such a genius piece of writing.

And Jonny, thanks for the latest article, great stuff.

Glinner · 16/11/2018 18:47

"How do we persuade other people with higher profiles to speak out positively about this? Because this debate needs more voices based on reasonable logic."

I wish I knew. People are terrified. Look what happened to Alison Moyet.
