If VS follow through on their capitulation and subsequent bootlicking of the TRA community and send a trans model down the runway, once the men leering over the models realise, things will get interesting quickly.

Personally I’m all for this. However would not want trans women in female spaces due to tersostsrone/genitals

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 10/11/2018 19:44

Personally I have no problem at all with transwomen modelling fancy underwear, make-up etc. Lots of transwomen have a lot more interest in it than me. This is not a feminist issue.

ShotsFired · 10/11/2018 19:46

Don't get me wrong, I couldn't give a shiny shit who they send down the catwalk in their skimpies.

But I reckon that the average bloke who watches the shows as entertainment will not be impressed when one of the hotties he has been lusting over is actually a man.

And also I am annoyed at the fact VS immediately fell over themselves to apologise and prove their wokeness when it is very clear they target a very specific market and aren't interested in appealing to people outside it (like any other niche brand).

How is that a problem?

LemonJello · 10/11/2018 19:52

Might I suggest Monroe Bergdorf?

Muntoe loves a bit of objectification for the benefit of the male gaze while calling it ‘empowerment’.

Perfect for the role!

LemonJello · 10/11/2018 19:54

Am actually, I would be quite happy if the entire modelling staff for VS were transwomen! That’s a trans right I could get behind.

ShotsFired · 10/11/2018 19:55

Because we know that men who are "tricked" in that way (howsoever that occurs and whether you agree with the premise) don't take kindly to it.

The recent news about the gay man who tricked men into blindfolded sex by claiming to be a woman, for example.

As I said, I think it will be an interesting situation all round; and also the immediate change of tune and backpedalling was of note.

LemonJello yes I wouldn't be surprised to see their name associated with this at all.

Want it a woman who tricked other women into sex with a fake penis or is this another case?

ShotsFired · 10/11/2018 19:59

Another case: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/gay-man-trick-straight-tinder-woman-pose-kingston-duerte-xavier-a8559006.html

Happened a while ago but he was sentenced this week I think, so back in the news.

This is definitely the sort of thing where male models would be a good thing

Lingerie is a gender thing, anyone can weee it having a uterus is irrelevant... drag queens who play with the female gender stereotype might want to participate as models.

Then the display might move away from ‘phwoar yeah men look at those sexy ladies’ and towards ‘these are nice clothes perhaps I would enjoy wearing these clothes when I wish to appear feminine’ which I would view as positive tbh.

VovoBickie · 10/11/2018 20:02

Doesn't bother me.

I think it’s interesting that the comment made was about plus size models and transwomen, both rejected initially because presumably it wouldnt satisfy the straight male gaze, but the capitulation only seems to be with regards to tranwoman.

That’s not to say I think it’s an issue that transwomen will be included - I don’t see why they shouldn’t be - but I wonder if plus size models will ever be included.

HamiltonCork · 10/11/2018 20:33

Bring it on.

ShotsFired · 10/11/2018 20:41

Jen, you have completely mistaken the point I was trying to make, and actually invented a problem I hadn't even mentioned.

Apologies if that was my poor wording, but your assumption is incorrect.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 10/11/2018 20:48

Crack on, good luck to them.

LemonJello · 10/11/2018 20:56

If I didn’t have to use my real name, I would start a petition to Victoria’s Secret to hire loads of transwomen.

Uncoupling “women” from “sex object in undies” ✅✅✅

LikeDust · 10/11/2018 21:00

I would be delighted if all objectification informed by the male gaze was played out by exclusively other males.

Victoria's Secret, Playboy, beauty pageants, pornography, the lot.

Oh how I would chortle!

Please let this happen.

Cwenthryth · 10/11/2018 21:00

I can kinda see what you’re trying to get at, OP, I think. I spent a lot of time Thailand and there was popular ladyboy cabaret, we took some friends who were visiting, and a very macho straight guy friend of mine found the whole thing confusing almost to the point of distress - the Ladyboys who were fully post op wearing very skimpy bikinis for their acts, leaving nothing to the imagination. He was properly wide-eyed, spluttering... couldn’t accept that they were born male, with the implication being that he could be ‘tricked/fooled’ into finding a male body attractive, and all the homophobic/gay panic implications of that.

Personally I have no issue with a transwoman modelling for Victoria Secret. I’d actually reckon that the average transwoman would have more interest in ‘sexy’ lingerie that the average woman! I generally want my underwear to be comfy and supportive, not titillating. But anyway, clothes are clothes, I really don’t care who wears what.

AspieAndProud · 10/11/2018 21:05

I don’t think it’s a feminist issue. I just wonder at the business model that thinks they’ll shift more sexy underwear if they associate it with men in drag.

happydappy2 · 10/11/2018 21:17

There was an amazing car advert I saw about 2 years ago in a magazine or online, with a feminine looking person with long blond hair (covering flat cheasted area where breasts would be) but the individual was a male model. They had a face made up like a woman & looked very attractive, & a very feminine slim body, possibly had a rib removed, they totally looked like a woman, and it got me thinking how super slim men could take over the catwalk. They have the frame, slim hips, flat cheast etc.

Batteriesallgone · 10/11/2018 21:18

I wonder who their main purchasers are - people buying for others to wear (men buying for girlfriends) or people buying it to wear themselves.

I guess if it’s the first you might think that should mean only thin young women who should model.

If the second the models should be as diverse as possible.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/11/2018 21:22

their capitulation and subsequent bootlicking of the TRA community

I don't think it's a problem for women if people support Trans rights. Frankly I think we should both be on the same side in wanting to rip up sexist stereotypes. In principle it's a good thing if transgender women are getting involved in public life more (though this stretches the definition).

I understand the frustration that it will come with loppy TRAs claiming proof that transvestites are 'real' women, but I don't think we should rise to the bait of opposing just for the sake of it.

It's also a chance to point out that being a woman is in no way defined by being wearing very little and being ogled like a piece of meat.
