Victoria's secret: "we absolutely would cast a transgender model in our show."

If VS follow through on their capitulation and subsequent bootlicking of the TRA community and send a trans model down the runway, once the men leering over the models realise, things will get interesting quickly.

I also doubt men spend much time leering at VS models. There are widely available internet sites that will satisfy every appetite. The runways are mainly a social and ultimately economic manipulation of women.

I've witnessed first hand the confusion and very real distress felt by a hetero male friend when he saw the Ladyboys of Bangkok for the first time, in Edinburgh. He wasn't disturbed by the Ladyboys in particular, he thought they were gorgeous. Gorgeous women. He was disturbed by his own reaction. He was turned on by these women. He then had to deal with the reality that, no, these weren't women.

I'd love to see a few more confused men about - perhaps they'd think about it if it affected their lives a bit more. Let them ogle trans women. Let them shout "smile, darlin'" at a trans woman. Let the trans women deal with being felt up on the Tube, or being upskirted, and then let the male doing the feeling up suddenly realise he's got a dick in his hand, or that those upskirt photos contain much much more than he bargained for.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 11/11/2018 11:37

I would be delighted if all objectification informed by the male gaze was played out by exclusively other males. x1000.

Let them get at it, I say however, the reason VS can charge exorbitant amounts of money for a microscopic piece of fluff and dental floss is because their models are marketed as super human fuck dolls who transcend normal women. I’m not sure quite how they’ll integrate men into that brand but good luck to them.

I’m sure there is a market in Transwomen wanting overpriced under-trollies, don’t see why they shouldn’t be represented in the marketing.

disrespectfulpenguin · 11/11/2018 12:04

Actually, i want Transwomen to just own VS just take it, have it,own it, It is yours sweetie...

An open letter to Ed Razek, Victoria’s Secret chief marketing officer.

Dear Mr Razek,

You said the Victoria’s Secret annual shows were "a fantasy" and should not include transgender models.
You later said these remarks were "insensitive", but this is not good enough, Ed.

We call on Victoria’s Secret to right this terrible and discriminatory injustice by changing your hiring practices to ensure that transgender models are strongly represented on the runway and in their advertising materials. Nothing less than an all-transgender model team is called for now.

We have taken the liberty to develop a new marketing tag line for you.

Victoria’s Secret- for the male gaze, by the male gaze.

I trust you approve Ed, and that you will do the right thing.

Yours Sincerley,

LemonJello

Yes please. Go ahead and take over every space men have created for women and stay out of all the spaces women created for ourselves.

It's win-win!

Hear hear! LemonJello

Sincerely

^^ Whatever 'th this makes me - but yes, this is wholly acceptable and I would support this.

I'd be quietly amused at fashion houses covering the waif-like sylph/nymph types as well as the exclusive range for the non-interventionist 50+ yr-old with a very different build.

Bizarrely, it might be the kickstart for clothing manufacturers to start offering their wares in some rather more realistic size options than they do at present. Tho' I'm not sure if they'd be in styles that I'd like but that would be no different to my current impression of the clothes market.

Bloomcounty · 11/11/2018 12:15

I make clothes.....ponders new market possibilities....undercrackers for ladies with bits hmmmmmm

ABitCrapper · 11/11/2018 12:18

Absolutely echo all the posters above - let those who perform femininity, and feminine stereotypes pose in lingerie. I'm all for it.

LemonJello · 11/11/2018 12:18

YES!!!!

LemonJello · 11/11/2018 12:26

This is really a win-win for everyone, apart from maybe VS and Ed.

Deliriumoftheendless · 11/11/2018 12:52

Tag line- Victoria has a new secret.

arranfan · 11/11/2018 12:56

Tag line- Victoria has a new secret.

They should pay you money for that tag-line. In fact, I think we are happy to donate their whole new media and catwalk strategy to them.

YES! Happy for all the VS models to be transwomen. And the rest of it too. Excellent result.

Yes, and establish once and for all, that ‘femininity’ is a male fantasy.

LemonJello · 11/11/2018 13:22

I wonder what the AWAs will make of FWR leading the charge against this discrimination against transwomen?

FrumpyTrumpy · 11/11/2018 13:28

Personally I have no problem at all with transwomen modelling fancy underwear, make-up etc. Lots of transwomen have a lot more interest in it than me. This is not a feminist issu

The problem though is that actual human girls will see this. And when they see someone with a male's body fat percentage and breasts, they will wonder why they don't (can't) look like that.

FrumpyTrumpy · 11/11/2018 13:33

FFS. Why would I give a toss if the entirety of the flimsy under garments industry was advertised by feminine looking blokes? It might underscore even more forcefully that the images presented are complete bollocks.

But it wouldn't be a feminine looking obvious man.

It would be someone who had been surgically altered to look like a woman, and they'd have to pass as a woman and be pretty. Otherwise, VS wouldn't go anywhere near them. So at the end of the day they are still feeding the male gaze and it still directly affects us.

It's like Paris "I love to be objectified and go home with strange men and have dicks shoved in my mouth". When men read Paris's articles and don't know that Paris was born male.... they wonder why the rest of us aren't also in to "being shut up with a dick" (not my quote, thanks).

arranfan · 11/11/2018 13:39

I want them to embrace the range of trans women in the way that they don't with women. From the sylphs to the sturdy, 50+ unmediated by hormones or surgery end (after all, that 80%+ of unmediated is VS' target demographic for personal purchases)

LikeDust · 11/11/2018 13:49

Already modelling is made up of women chosen to have a height, BMI and body fat distribution far closer to the mode for men than the mode for women. What real difference would it make to women/girls self esteem just have blokes modelling? At least it would be clear. Dudes with silicone implants make the best sex objects according to the male gaze, so girls - how about some actual life affirming aspirations? (I know I am being facetious at this point).

Or we could have our own fashion industry by and for women. We'd probably end up with far more practical, comfortable and flattering clothes for the majority of us.

Like roomy dresses with pockets instead of itchy dental floss knickers

arranfan · 11/11/2018 14:11

FishFingerPie - I'm blaming your name for the 'from nowhere' urge to run to the freezer and dig out fish fingers for lunch instead of something more elaborate.

Like roomy dresses with pockets - and pockets in appropriate places!

Did you see the pocket/zip placement in that daft kickstarter travel dress?
