Pile on by TRAs

I am in the middle of a pile on by TRA's on Twitter.

I am not comfortable sharing my anonymous Twitter username on even here yet, but I wanted to ask, when trying to explain your viewpoint on feminism, and you become the subject of a pile on, what do you do?

I am stuck between not giving up, but the more I reply, the more of them pile on.

Help.

I'm not great at coming back with good arguments but just remember that - as with mumsnet - there are lots of lurkers who know scientific truth and will be seeing the attack and silently agreeing with you.

Many people have peak transed when they've seen the words of TRAs.

I know there will be silent lurkers, thats why I didnt bite, or be rude, but merely debated with the one person who was politely disagreeing but not being rude to me.

I like having polite debate. When its all that 'got owned' 'transphobe!' blah blah blah BS I leave the debate.

It has stopped now thank goodness. At one point in around 30s I had 18 notifications. Ridiculous.

I mostly debate now with people who are clearly Unfortunately, sometimes unpleasant people butt in.

Namecalling almost always occurs when you have made a good point and they don’t have a rational response. In that case, I always point out that they’ve begun namecalling and seem unable to respond to my point.

If I asked a question and they failed to answer, I point that out and ask it again.

And if they continue to namecall, I explain I won’t engage any longer.

BUT if I’m getting properly narcissistic vibes, I block them immediately. I’m there under my real name and I won’t engage.

I got piled on when I once responded to LOJ asking him not to call women 'cis' as it was offensive. I argued my point politely with a couple of tweeters but mostly just ignored.

The obscene abuse gets difficult though.

Hetty is my wife. My cis lesbian wife. And because she is pro self ID she is constantly accused of being a man and I am so fucking sick of it. Call her out for her opinion if you don’t like it but critiquing the way a woman looks because she doesn’t conform to your ideas of how a woman should behave is about as anti feminist as you can get.

This is really shitty behaviour. You’re supposed to be feminists but you think it’s ok to call a short haired lesbian a man.

I didn’t get arrested with my sisters at Greenham or march on Downing Street in the 80s for your kind of feminism. Shame on you, all of you and your homophobic bile.

wopbamboo You did great to keep your cool. Those TRAs had a nasty bullying tone. When people have no real arguments, all they're left with is abuse.

You called an obvious cis lesbian a man because you don’t agree with her on self ID. That’s homophobia.

Just so we are all really clear, I’ve got no problem with anyone arguing with her about her views or her opinions. But accusing her of being a man, repeatedly and the nasty little asides, not only about her btw, about Adam’s apples etc is disengenuous bollocks designed to undermine argumentments by people who generally aren’t smart enough to debate the substance.

Those TRAs had a nasty bullying tone. When people have no real arguments, all they're left with is abuse.

Of course this forum has never been abusive at all. A total mystery why Mumsnet was forced to bring in those guidelines because of 'negative generalisations', 'derogatory or aggressive posts about trans people' and 'aggressive or rude behaviour' towards mods

LurkingLizzy Mumsnet was 'forced' to bring in political censorship because of pressure from TRAs. The one positive was that the word 'cis' was (nominally) banned.

Far be it from me to act as thread police but I strongly suggest people do not engage.

There is quite clearly a screenshot hunt going on here and on other threads.

I disagree with her stance. No personal insults have been lobbed at her.
