I haven’t been following OJ’s defence of Jeremy Corbyn’s antisemitism but his threat to sue if Joe Maugham doesn’t pay £250 to both Live Not Hate and Jewdas because of criticisms Maugham made about Jones looks like extortion to me.

What did Jo say to make you think he is anti woman?

All I saw him say is that he does not think self ID is the right answer to balancing women's rights with trans rights and that one should have the lived experience of a woman to take on certain roles (by which I assume he means Women's Officers and the like).

Was there more?

He donated to Jen James's crowdfunder about AWS. Got shouted at by TRAs. Retracted the donation, issued a grovelling apology and bought off the TRA onslaught by announcing a standing order donation to a transgender charity/lobby group.

Re : JM - interesting how many remember that small but revealing exchange many months ago and continue to judge him on it. When the chips are counted his contribution to this will not be forgotten.

I think it’s lack of interest.

DAG, has retweeted assurances that Self ID has no effect on the EA, but it’s very apparent that he hasn’t examined the legislation and is deferring to others.

If he looked at the current legislation he would see that it is being interpreted very differently by different people, and that at the very least clarification is needed, but it’s an issue that he can dip in and out if because it doesn’t really affect him - a bit like being interested in tennis in the first week of July.

I think the problem is that if misogyny is the water you swim it’s it’s very difficult to see - just as able bodied people don’t notice if there are no disabled loos and white people often miss racism.

I never liked Ranj since his CBeebies show where he had himself as the doctor and brought in a female nurse...hated that shitty message going out to toddlers, reinforcing the whole doctor male, nurse female shit. He should have had another female doctor. The fact he didn't care, as long as he got on TV, told me everything I needed to know. Hate him.

As usual, what gets me with these stories is the total, over the top prevarication of the TRA side of things ("these are transphobees who want to deny vital medical treatment..." bs) , and then the total inability/unwillingness, by someone I thought of as smart, to say, 'wait a minute, that can't be right...'

Still, when dealing with single issues, it's inevitable that you'll end up with someone with views abhorrent to yours on another topic.
It just so happens that OJ manages to tick most of my boxes of 'can't stand him'

Jolyon Maugham showed himself to be a poor lawyer. Didnt read the papers thoroughly, rolled over when when cross examined and capitulated in the end. Very shocked based on his past but he really showed who he is. Wants to be lovely and everyones friend -but not a friend of vulnerable women and children.
