Do you think he is doing a 'wanted down under'?

God that would a boring/confusing episode

Iused2BanOptimist · 02/02/2019 19:10

He may as well stay in NZ, I wonder if he is checking out job opportunities? His career here is surely over. Haven't noticed Sky or BBC making use of him for comment recently.
And the Doctors Association UK DAUK dropped him as media officer pretty quickly. Not a mention of him these days.
8/10/18 they posted a GP profile of their "media officer"
12/10/18 they were advertising for a new media officer.

I hvent made my complaint yet. I became his target after I left twitter. Amazing all the things I did after I had actually left twitter..

ScipioAfricanus · 05/02/2019 12:22

Twitter feels lovely without him at the moment. I can only imagine his tut tutting and disappointed turns of phrase with the recent Suffolk police drama (though would be nice to see him dealing with their subsequent apology).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/02/2019 12:33

Where is he?

ScipioAfricanus · 05/02/2019 12:34

He’s gone to New Zealand. He is on a self-imposed social media ban (not forever sadly) and urged everyone to behave themselves in his absence. Ugh.

Bluestitch · 05/02/2019 12:44

Does anyone else think he was given a warning after his latest antics with Hayden went too far? I can't imagine him shutting up voluntarily.

ScipioAfricanus · 05/02/2019 12:56

He may even have realised it himself, but I don’t think he’d publically ever accept he’d been wrong.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/02/2019 13:11

I don't think he'd ever accept it privately either. He will never believe he is wrong, too narcissistic. Even if he loses his job / gets struck off over this I'm certain he won't think its through any fault of his.

TwitterLovesMAPs · 05/02/2019 13:13

FFS how long does it take to get someone struck off? The guys obviously a toxic, bullying headcase. What’s to deliberate about?

charlestonchaplin · 05/02/2019 13:56

If you expect him to be struck off I think you'll be disappointed. I doubt very much that the GMC will take away someone's means of earning a living for horrible comments on social media.

More likely he will receive a strong reprimand and he may find it difficult to get competitive jobs if his online antics become well known. However, with the current shortage of doctors, l doubt he'll be unable to get any work at all, as long as he is medically competent.

It's not the GMC that makes the decisions anymore. It's the MPTS.

dragoning · 05/02/2019 16:13

What is the MPTS? Are they more or less likely than the GMC to tolerate a GP who makes women feel unsafe?

Lettera · 05/02/2019 16:32

The GMC don't have power to erase (ie, strike off) a doctor but can issue lesser sanctions. Only the most serious cases are referred to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal, who can decide to erase.

Bluestitch · 05/02/2019 16:34

I think he crossed the line from horrible to actively threatening with his tweets last week.

iklboo · 05/02/2019 16:49

What happens now is if the GMC feel that the complaints are so serious that there is real danger of patient safety risk or the doctor is not safe to practise they gather all their evidence and present it to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

Only the MPTS can strike doctors off now. They are independent of the GMC and their decision is usually final. The GMC can apply lesser sanctions like giving the doctor a warning.

iklboo · 05/02/2019 16:50

Sorry x post with Lettera

Knicknackpaddyflak · 05/02/2019 17:43

I doubt very much that the GMC will take away someone's means of earning a living for horrible comments on social media.

If he was a teacher he'd have been out on his ear years ago, after the first incident. Professional standards. 'Means of earning a living' is irrelevant if you've demonstrated you're manifestly unfit for the responsibility of a profession. He will have signed a code of conduct.

I've been wondering for years what it is he has over them that they've let him bumble on like this.

Bluestitch · 05/02/2019 18:03

I'd say it's that he mainly targets women that lets him get away with it. If he spoke to or about trans people the way he does women he'd have been arrested by now.

Iused2BanOptimist · 05/02/2019 19:51

The GMC are very reluctant to strike doctors from the register and it's normally only the most serious offences, sexual abuse, affairs with patients, financial misconducts. That sort of thing. So it is incredibly unlikely that they would strike him off the register. I'm not really sure what sanctions they have - usually this will be somethings like a period of supervised practice or something like that which isn't really appropriate. I doubt they can demand he gets off social media. And to be fair , I doubt they have had to sanction someone for this sort of behaviour before because Doctors don't usually do this sort of thing.
And if he is mostly working for an agency now I doubt that work will dry up any time soon due to the shortage of doctors. Ugh. The thought of rocking up to A&E with a gynae emergency and seeing him appear - I'd discharge myself with my last breath.

FoldyRoll · 05/02/2019 23:12

Ooh, my first deletion! (that I'm aware of). Someone doesn't like facts.

OtepotiLilliane42 · 06/02/2019 02:46

Well, if Dr Harrop did try to practice medicine in NZ there are enough Kiwis on this thread to let this organisation know why it might not be a good idea (Medical Council of New Zealand).

Oh gawd I hate that he is here in NZ. We are only 4.8 million strong, and unfortunately the Woke runs deep. Angry
