There will be a discussion of gender dysphoria. The Twitter grapevine says that Transgender Trend will be represented.

Honest to god, the content aside, isn't the civility and consideration/thoughtfulness of a bunch of women speaking a marked contrast to what we've had up till now?

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:34

Stephanie has been stopped but with a good question about giving children drugs on the NHS.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:34

But yes, good to hear women talking

Bonions · 29/10/2018 10:35

Seen this as a reply on the women's hour tweet about this:

Transmasculine London formerly known as FTM LDN
@FTM_London
Replying to @BBCWomansHour
Cis girls have body autonomy & agency to take the pill without parental consent from the age of 13. Trans boys & non-binary young people should have the same rights to body autonomy & agency as Cis girls.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:35

Very young children who are too young are being given irreversible drug treatment

Is this happening at The Tavistock?

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:36

Polly says this is not the case

ShotsFired · 29/10/2018 10:37

"less reversible" - that's a sneaky little phrase made to minimise the impact of what is actually being said.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:38

The teaching of Gender Id is introduced to schools, Childline NSPCC says Stephanie

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:39

Polly is laughing at the rise in referrals. She looked puzzled over figures, Jane says.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:40

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:41

It is not a diagnostic label Polly says

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:41

Polly is dangerous

anotherGCacademic · 29/10/2018 10:42

Why does Polly keep sniggering in the background?

Bonions · 29/10/2018 10:44

Jane Garvey "Have you got facts and figures or is that just a feeling you have?" when Stephanie says that there appears to be a link with autism.

Robbabank · 29/10/2018 10:45

Good going from Jane Garvey so far. Perhaps has taken on feedback from the last GRA discussion? Also a respectful discussion between Stephanie and the Tavistock woman, who are agreeing on some areas (and obviously, not on others. Important that they are speaking about the backgrounds and mental health of young people seeking referrals.

PurpleOva · 29/10/2018 10:46

The woman from Tavistock sounds really cold about it, like real lack of concern around the increase in girls being referred. No sign of wanting to explore the reasons behind it, very odd.

hipsterfun · 29/10/2018 10:46

Polly seems to see the dots clearly but isn’t able to join them.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:46

Jane did a good job, as did Stephanie.

Polly sniggered throughout.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2018 10:47

She is so dismissive and cold as pp says

ShotsFired · 29/10/2018 10:47

Purple at the start wasn't there a comment about how Polly's livelihood is the tavi, so she's not going to eat her own golden goose.
(my own paraphrasing!)

Robbabank · 29/10/2018 10:47

Yes, I thought Polly seemed unusually unprofessional here. This is my first time hearing anyone from the Tavistock and I was expecting a more factual approach, with less of the long drawn out 'Weeeellll, ...) before stating her opinion.

hipsterfun · 29/10/2018 10:47

Yes, great work Stephanie Flowers

anotherGCacademic · 29/10/2018 10:47

So Polly admits that:

There are clear links between mental health issues and gender confused children
Rigid gender roles in society are unhelpful
The number of girls presenting to her clinic has grown massively
This is a very complex issue.

And her conclusion:

Lots of children have very deep feelings about this and we affirm these.

Wow.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 29/10/2018 10:47

I thought it was good overall! Thank you Womens Hour and Jane Garvey and all contributors.

Robbabank · 29/10/2018 10:48

Yes, you are articulating what I'm struggling with. A sort of distance, or remove from Polly, ...detached.
