Trans extremists are putting equality at risk

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0fe1693a-d56f-11e8-926d-96790161a92a

Sorry I don't know how to do a share token but this is brilliant. Some extracts:

The disaster of the public consultation process on gender recognition has revealed a government so terrified of being labelled transphobic that it is ready to destroy half a century of painstakingly assembled anti-discrimination legislation to the detriment of every woman, person of colour and disabled individual in Britain.

The self-declaration principle, masquerading as compassionate recognition, risks making a mockery of the struggle for equality. If ministers give in to trans zealots, a white man would merely need to say “Today, I’m a black woman. I might not be tomorrow but, hey, who cares?” Well, I do. And so should everyone who genuinely believes in fairness.

Trevor Phillips WROTE the Equality Act 2010. How can politicians argue with him?

This is such an excellent well argued piece. Thank you Trevor.

Thanks @Igneococcus

Glad he has spoken out. Thanks for posting.

ShotsFired · 22/10/2018 06:41

When even Trevor Phillips is saying something against the wokeness, you know things have really gone tits up.

Ithinktomyself · 22/10/2018 06:52

Just read this and was coming on to shout about it. The comments are entirely supportive too. Great article.

LittleLebowski · 22/10/2018 06:53

Thanks for the share. I thought there were similarities between self-ID and the problems that have been seen with Brazil's affirmative action in universities: www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/black-or-white-in-brazil-a-panel-will-decide-foryou/article33295036/ I still don't see how anyone can deny that self-ID of gender is so different to self-ID of race or as Trevor Phillips says, any other protected characteristic. I like "trans extremists" as a term. Sums it up nicely to me.

MissBartlettsconscience · 22/10/2018 06:55

I've just read it and wanted to see if it had been shared already. Bloody brilliant!!

Candidpeel · 22/10/2018 07:14

Excellent. Particularly where he talks ablout the aims and intentions of EA2010

pennydrew · 22/10/2018 07:23

Fantastic. Glad he brought up other issues like race and disability.

TimeLady · 22/10/2018 07:27

What a great, clearly-argued piece, and coming from one of the authors of the Equality Act, you'd like to think politicians would listen.

KatVonGulag · 22/10/2018 07:29

This is damning.

Hopefully he won't get too much shit from the TRAs

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 22/10/2018 07:34

I think he’s realised that once they’ve come for the women, they’ll come for black people (and other minorities too) and he’ll be powerless to stop it. Either way, I’m glad he’s on our side, self interest or not.

MangoSplit · 22/10/2018 07:35

Great article

BettyFloop · 22/10/2018 07:42

Good start to the week.

Onwards and upwards wimms.

deepwatersolo · 22/10/2018 07:46

Kat I don‘t think he will get much shit from TRAs. But his Mum probably wil.

AnchorMum · 22/10/2018 07:48

So pleased to see this - Trevor Phillips is someone whose expert opinion should be listened to.

Cuntysnark · 22/10/2018 07:48

Brilliant. I wonder what Libby would say. Hopefully the same.

Great article, and makes a really quite unassailable argument,

one tiny gripe - he seems to believe that men who have had SRS are no longer male - but apart from that, absolutely spot on.

And people are a lot more sensitive about appearing racist than appearing misogynist, so this slant is very helpful.

ShotsFired · 22/10/2018 07:56

The more I think about this the more pissed off I am.

He could have spoken up weeks or months ago. But oh no, he sat on the fence till it was too late to have any real impact and only then said his piece.

He may as well not have bothered, because his silence till now has made him complicit. That goes for everyone else who was busy cosying up to the wokefolk and only speaking out when they knew they wouldn't get in too much hot water for it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/10/2018 07:59

That's a brilliant article. It's the first time In seen the media raise the fact that if you can self-ID your sex, why not the other protectws characteristics?

calpop · 22/10/2018 07:59

What a coward he is though, saying this on the day it will be too late to fill out the consultation form.

NaturalBornWoman · 22/10/2018 07:59

I think he’s realised that once they’ve come for the women, they’ll come for black people (and other minorities too) and he’ll be powerless to stop it.

They won't though. That isn't where their interest lies, and they wouldn't get away with it.

I'm glad he's made an analogy, and raised the subject of the EA. but I also think that the impact on Women's rights is enough reason to stop this. And it's Women's rights which are considered so irrelevant that we're in this situation. It makes some good points, but it still made me angry. If that makes sense.

hackmum · 22/10/2018 08:01

one tiny gripe - he seems to believe that men who have had SRS are no longer male - but apart from that, absolutely spot on.

Yes, I thought that. The whole issue of distinguishing between people who genuinely believe themselves to be the opposite sex and those who are faking it is fraught with problems. I am sure that quite a lot of teenage girls currently coming out as trans boys are genuine in their belief, but I am equally sure that the vast majority, left to their own devices, would grow out of it in a couple of years.
