Trans extremists are putting equality at risk

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0fe1693a-d56f-11e8-926d-96790161a92a

Sorry I don't know how to do a share token but this is brilliant. Some extracts:

The disaster of the public consultation process on gender recognition has revealed a government so terrified of being labelled transphobic that it is ready to destroy half a century of painstakingly assembled anti-discrimination legislation to the detriment of every woman, person of colour and disabled individual in Britain.

The self-declaration principle, masquerading as compassionate recognition, risks making a mockery of the struggle for equality. If ministers give in to trans zealots, a white man would merely need to say “Today, I’m a black woman. I might not be tomorrow but, hey, who cares?” Well, I do. And so should everyone who genuinely believes in fairness.

Trevor Phillips WROTE the Equality Act 2010. How can politicians argue with him?

Popchyk thanks do you have a link please?

Popchyk · 23/10/2018 10:07

R0wan, it is from the article that I quoted.

"In June 6, 2017, the defendant was arrested in Castlebar for drug offences".

"She explained her client changed her name on June 9, 2016 and received a formal gender recognition certificate in June 2016 and a new birth certificate in July 2016".

R0wantrees · 23/10/2018 10:33

Sorry Popchyk I had sun on my screen and had missed the embedded link in your original post.

MadamBatty · 23/10/2018 10:48

Sounds as though that person is chancing their arm. How would the Gardai even know that persons previous name unless that was the name given to them by the accused. Where’s the prejudice??

Bonions · 23/10/2018 10:52

So if I were married and had changed my name but when I was arrested, gave my maiden name, I could accuse the Gardai of discrimination because they addressed documents to the name I provided?

Thinking about tax issues, the EU were making noises about a blacklist of tax havens last year. www.theguardian.com/world/2017/dec/02/paradise-to-blacklist-eu-tax-havens

Within the EU, the countries on the naughty step were:
Malta
Cyprus
Ireland
Luxembourg
The Netherlands
United Kingdom

That's an interesting list. It doesn't match up with the list of countries who have self-id already, but I'd be interested to know how far down the line e.g. Netherlands and Luxembourg are and if the pressure is as intense as here. The timing of the consultation here could mean legislation went through (if it had slipped through, that is) before Brexit. As I understand it there are some big EU tax changes planned just after Brexit, which is why certain players are so keen to push it through.

It's not easy to get citizenship in Luxembourg, they are part of the Shengen area though so a passport for Malta gets you into all those states, including Netherlands.

The strategic move was to get the most easily corruptible governments in the Shengen areas to give you a free pass.

UK and Ireland are outside of Shengen, therefore needed to be battered into submission.

Trousered · 23/10/2018 11:05

Shengen visas are very valuable commodities.

I posted this link re. the funders behind Transgender Europe on another thread

Curiouser and curiouser

What an interesting direction this thread has taken. Kudos to the Rosemary and Thyme mumsnetters!

Could it be that the opportunity to acquire a whole new identity protected by law with maximum secrecy means self ID potentially offers the best easy, legal way to bury one's past available within the law? Which could be of interest to McMafia types moving into the Shengen Area and wanting to lose themselves?

Stamping TRA's and petty criminals chancing their arm are just a side show. Well well.

Iused2BanOptimist · 23/10/2018 14:40

Timelady (c) any personal or real right already acquired by third parties or any privilege or hypothecary right of a creditor acquired before the change in the gender identity of the person shall in no way be affected.

mean that creditors can still come looking for their money, even if you've legally changed your gender identity and your name?

I would think that's a protection to mean your mortgage doesn't get wiped clean when you change ID. Though how you get it changed into your new name whilst wiping your old id is anyone's guess. Other creditors may have a much harder time tracking you down if you choose to disappear.

Mishappening · 23/10/2018 14:43

He's a great guy - I had some dealings with him many years ago in a professional capacity. Well said Trevor!

woman11017 · 23/10/2018 17:05

Good article.
I hope he speaks up in support of his erstwhile colleague, Linda Bellos too. Soon.

FlowersAndHerts · 24/10/2018 08:38

I don't know how to do a share token, but an article today in The Times by Lucy Bannerman.
"Labour supporters have criticised a “sinister” decision to freeze them out of a Facebook group for sharing an article by the former head of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission. Rebecca Lush was among the women who tried to share the article by Trevor Phillips on The Labour Party Forum, an unofficial account with almost 40,000 followers."

I just refreshed the comments under Lucy Bannaman’s article & it looks like they’ve closed the comments & removed the ones posted first thing.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 24/10/2018 15:36

Plenty of comments there now.

Feminist4 · 24/10/2018 15:48

I think the article is awful. He clearly is out of touch with the needs of the transgender community and has been brainwashed by the anti trans lobby.

Bonions · 24/10/2018 15:52

What lobby is that?

What an utterly stupid thing to say.

It speaks volumes that you centre your complaints thus.
