Cafe in Deptford banning women who say things they don’t like.

The Greenhouse in Detford had this sticker sign up.
Given the tiny number of trans people who must come through their doors compared to the large number of women, and that the likelihood of any of those women “intimidating” transpeople is pretty much nil, then wtf is this about ? I’m finding this banning of women who hold different opinions deeply sinister.

Somone needs to be adding “lesbians not welcome.” Stickers and see how that goes down then. Cheeky fuckers. If I see any of that in my town I will be having a stern word.

Carrotsandcauliflower · 21/10/2018 21:26

That should get reported to the local council as homophobic abuse.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/10/2018 21:33

The twitter thread is very heartening.

hipsterfun · 21/10/2018 21:36

Zoflora-Evading Rancid Fridge.

LeftRightCentre · 21/10/2018 21:41

They make it easy to avoid them then. Twats.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/10/2018 21:43

Oh Please, London women, get down there with Lesbians not welcome here stickers.

"we won't accept intimidating behaviour to transgender people"

Aaand another chunk of made-up bullshit hits the fan. Goes well with 'you don't want transpeople to exist', 'you want to exterminate transpeople', 'you want to deny transpeople human rights', blah, blah blah qalikhboiybrrogvyzhbub

Aaargh.

I am so sick of the fucking lying.

"Lesbians who won't suck lady-dick not welcome here" 😂😂😂

PositivelyPERF · 21/10/2018 21:55

By the responses they’ve had, they’ll probably have closed down by the time you get there. I wouldn’t waste the train fare. 😁

PositivelyPERF · 21/10/2018 21:58

we won't accept intimidating behaviour to transgender people

What’s that then?

Breastfeeding? sitting down while having a pee? Not having a bulge under my skirt?

DollySparks · 21/10/2018 22:03

My locals changed its toilet signs 🤨

Srsly if they really did just want to show support for trans people all they need to do is stick up a couple of Stonewall posters and a Mermaids collecting tin.
How stupid would you have to be to think an exclusionary sign was a better way to do it?

TheClitterati · 21/10/2018 22:16

I want to go there and order lots of food and then go "oh I'm not welcome here? I'll fuck off then."

But sadly I never go anywhere near Deptford.

LikeDust · 21/10/2018 22:23

We need some sort of app, showing which businesses do want to take our money so we can spare ourselves the inconvenience of looking around to get our lunch.

Bespin · 21/10/2018 23:03

exellent a app theres a few grand floating around somewhere to develop one ask someone for some money.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 21/10/2018 23:07

"we won't accept intimidating behaviour to transgender people"

That's great! But where is the majority of this intimidating behaviour coming from? The sign seems to be aimed towards women but IME the majority of harassment of transgender people is perpetrated by men. Nobody seems to want to address that fact though. I guess it's easier to harass and bully women instead, isn't it, Greenhouse?

Bespin · 21/10/2018 23:09

I think they have clarified at is all people who are gender critical and I suppose its aimed at people who make a point of expressing this towards others those making them uncomfortable. I mean no would know you were GC if you didn't tell them would they.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2018 23:17

And the state of the place. Envy

Needmoresleep · 21/10/2018 23:33

I was near Deptford last weekend. (Even been to a match at Millwall!) I reckon I could pass as non GC, as long as I did not say anything. Oddly a lifetime of living in London means I am inclined to live and let live, even if I don’t believe Karen White should be in a woman’s jail.

However there is no way on earth I would want to eat in a cafe run by intolerant misogynists, who won’t allow me lawful opinions. There is already too much of that coming from dimwit politicians.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 21/10/2018 23:37

The sign is also possibly ableist. A lot of people with autism and learning difficulties struggle with this whole thing and given that people with autism can also be very blunt and matter of fact...

So ableist, misogynistic and homophobic all in one. Not looking good Greenhouse, not looking good at all...

Bespin · 21/10/2018 23:43

it would only be a list of you assumed that people with learning disabilities or Asd could not hold GC views which of course some can, but to think that just because your consept of gender is maybe different or your ability to express it is not the same as being GC

Imnobody4 · 22/10/2018 00:18

Reminds me of something - of yes 'No blacks, no Irish' very progressive.
Sanctimonious little ejits.

FadingMint · 22/10/2018 00:29

That photo in the OP has been taken in the house of people who are in their second year in university! Deffo not a commercial caff! How amusing!

nocoolnamesleft · 22/10/2018 01:23

Given that female biology is seen as trans-exclusionary, and this is mumsnet, surely the suggestion ought to be for a breastfeeding protest...

FadingMint · 22/10/2018 01:29

Or possibly just point out to the lads that they are possibly risking food poisoning if they don't clean their student kitchen!
