Good I thought.

adulthumanandtired · 18/10/2018 23:12

No answer about Pippa Bunce, i really want to know from the FT what the entrance criteria is for their female executive list.

Glitterball Glitterball Glitterball

The BBC redeems itself with a cracking segment.

The highlight was the statement that no transgender speakers would be interviewed (bar Aimmeeeeee) because they wouldn't engage with a programme that featured transphobes. Grin

The panel discussion seemed to give a lot of time to Helen Belcher (Trans party) but Debbie Hayton and Ruth (Women's party) corrected misinformation and threw a wealth of preventable risks into the mix.

The segment was prominent and the first item with a balance of filmed interviews, voice-over information and a panel.

Nicely done!

tobee · 18/10/2018 23:12

It pissed me off that HB stuck in that bit about trans men as if HB was being all magnanimous.

anotherGCacademic · 18/10/2018 23:13

generally good think.

anotherGCacademic · 18/10/2018 23:14
  • I think
dolorsit · 18/10/2018 23:15

There's got to be a GC person on the research team to have chosen AC.

CoolCarrie · 18/10/2018 23:16

I think it was good that AC was on as that was a wonderful own goal! At least the reporter pointed out AC’s issue with the Green Party followed by the comments about AC’s vile father.

Winterlight · 18/10/2018 23:17

How dare the BBC allow someone who went out of their way to silence hundreds of womens’s voices via Terblocker speak in this debate.

Destinysdaughter · 18/10/2018 23:17

Quite a few pp on Twitter who are obviously new to this debate going WTF??

servalan7 · 18/10/2018 23:17

Well done Ruth, my DH was watching and didn't know who anyone was and said she was the only person who, made any sense to him.
The woman from Diva really was a rocket though.
Aimee was talking such gibberish, even if you believe twaw what Aimee said was incomprehensible. It's pretty obvious why TRAs don't want public discussion as they don't come out of it well.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 18/10/2018 23:18

Maybe 'we' as a GC community are too polite, too anxious about being perceived about not being transphobic ?

All of the following horrify the average Joe (and Joanne) in the street - Karen White, Janitta Brookes, Rachel McKinnon, Hannah Mouncey, the boxing TiM who nearly killed a woman, the 4500% increase in girls identifying as boys, Mermaids (well, just everything really), Labour's women's officers, the TRAs themselves (e.g A.C, J.B, S.F . I could continue), that 80-90% TiMS still have a d*ck), the explosion in an Anne summers shop that is P.B; A.D and his helpful quest to expand the bandwidth of 'woman', the
Haddock and so so much.

And yet we're too polite to shove it in our opponent's faces or to dangle it in front of the public even where they are either barefaced lying or being completely disingenuous with the facts.

It's too confusing and frankly too unbelievable to comprehend without these tangible examples to grab onto and I worry that it's going over people's heads

ToeToToe · 18/10/2018 23:19

They really fucking screwed us over with the GRA 2004, didn't they?

Without any of us even being aware with it.

Don't be fooled about the protections of the Equality Act - Stonewall are coming after that next. twitter.com/MrsMeadowsweet/status/1052556768222445568

donquixotedelamancha · 18/10/2018 23:20

By far the best advocate against self ID was Aimee Challenor. The great thing about her inability to turn down any chance to self publicise is that she was the face of self ID. Paris Lees would have been a lot more convincing.

Helen Belcher was the only one who landed any blows on us, but her obvious masculinity coupled with her uncompromising insistence that 'there is no debate' and 'it's just like segregation of black people' also helps make our argument.

This was front and center on Newsnight! It gives permission for the rest of the media to treat the debate better.

My god, this has come a long way and I tip my hat to the courageous women who've got us here.

WetWang · 18/10/2018 23:20

Kirsty wark is as thick as mince

FlowersAndHerts · 18/10/2018 23:21

Maybe 'we' as a GC community are too polite, too anxious about being perceived about not being transphobic ?
This is so true, and why David Davies on PM nailed it. However, Ruth's quiet common sense was also great.

HumberElla · 18/10/2018 23:23

HB looked very smug referring to GRA 2004. That wedge in the door is going to be pushed and pushed isn’t it.

doublethink · 18/10/2018 23:24

Thank you Ruth. The women who are standing for us are absolute bloody legends.

BertBox · 18/10/2018 23:25

Question time NOW

heresyandwitchcraft · 18/10/2018 23:26

Side note - can't someone in television just commission a whole series of Prof Stock talking about interesting subjects? It would be my new favourite show.

donquixotedelamancha · 18/10/2018 23:26

Maybe 'we' as a GC community are too polite, too anxious about being perceived about not being transphobic ?

Don't agree. If the AWAs manage to paint us as transphobic they will eventually win. Most people are not bigots.

It's too confusing and frankly too unbelievable to comprehend without these tangible examples to grab onto and I worry that it's going over people's heads

Do agree with this, but I think we can use the tangible examples without slipping into demonising people. The main reason this debate is swinging is that anti women activists have behaved so poorly that they have awoken a resistance to their views.

We need to be on the right side of the argument in every sense to succeed. We need people like Debbie Hayton with us, even if not everyone has exactly the same views.

CoolCarrie · 18/10/2018 23:27

Question time now!!!

NowtSalamander · 18/10/2018 23:29

If I ever have a moment of “are we on the wrong side of history” style doubt, I just look at the people who represent gender criticism compared to the people who represent genderism and think:!hang on, if we’re supposed to be the extreme ones why do we just look like the voice of common sense?

Ruth, Debbie, Dr Stock, thank you for being TRULY brave and stunning.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 18/10/2018 23:34

Ruth and Debbie were both great and got some excellent points in but .. I don't think I would have been left with any great agency to do anything as a result if I was new to it.

Whereas from where I'm standing, I'm scared. 'They' are coming and if 'they' don't get what they want this time they will keep at it until they do. And by 'they' I don't mean people with gender dysphoria which must be excruciating, or the confused or 'woke' young or even the middle aged TiMs but instead the men pulling the strings, creating the muddles and ambiguities to suit their own agendas

But.. then again, my toddler keeps waking me at 4am so it might well be that I'm just sleep deprived and it'll look better in the morning 😉

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 18/10/2018 23:34

And the always excellent Docstock too (but too short segment)
