That was rubbish I’m afraid; David Davies got the points across much better in about 60 seconds earlier today on R4.
Completely unbalanced panel again.

RedToothBrush · 18/10/2018 22:58

Helen and the intersex appropriation too.

HumberElla · 18/10/2018 22:58

Who pulled out at the last minute and nominated diva person I wonder?

NowtSalamander · 18/10/2018 22:59

SO glad Ruth destroyed that assigned at birth shit. As if no one has been to a 20 week scan before.

TwistedStitch · 18/10/2018 22:59

I loved the fact that Debbie Hayton made sure to state that the apparently prohibitive extortionate cost that requires a change in law is 140 quid.

Hidingtonothing · 18/10/2018 22:59

Felt like cheering at Ruth’s ‘sex is recorded’ point, well done to her and Debbie Star

hellandhairnets · 18/10/2018 22:59

OMG.

Aimee Challenor's father convicted of "a criminal offence." BBC - he was convicted and imprisoned for 22 years for the torture and rape of a ten year old girl, while dressed in a nappy and calling himself Lucy. HOW can you not report that?

Ruth did well and Prof Stock but again - not nearly enough time to go into the issues. Extremely poor reporting, and Kirsty very clearly biased.

Fuck off. Just fuck off.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 18/10/2018 23:00

HB managed to peak trans DH completely, more than I've ever seen before. She should be brought out more often.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 18/10/2018 23:01

Hummmm.. that's didn't work did it?

AC would have horrified some people but whilst Debbie and Ruth got in some points, the overwhelming impression id imagine for the uninitiated would be HB's soothing 'nothing to see here' constant steam with the murmuring of word salad in the background.

I don't think it was clear what it was about

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 18/10/2018 23:01

And AC waiting for surgery - how could any reputable surgeon do this without AC having a whole load of serious therapy first??

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 18/10/2018 23:01

Diva woman - dear oh dear oh dear. Hopeless.

Ruth - great. Debbie - very good. Kathleen Stock - marvellous. I could watch her all day.

Helen - hmm. I hope it didn't pass viewers by that Helen's concerns about refuges was all mememememememe and not a smidgeon of empathy for the women and children in there who need a female-only space. Jolly little laugh about the unlikelihood of getting funding for a third space - that was revealing. Doesn't Helen realise that most refuges were set up with money raised by women? Central government didn't cough up for them. Go and ask Jennifer Pritzker and the Wachowski sisters for some money for the third space!

Too little too late from the BBC.

Velella · 18/10/2018 23:01

I try to view these pieces as if I know sweet FA about the whole thing. Under those circumstances I would think:

Aimee - rude, scary and unconvincing
Doc Stock - clear and authoritative
Hayton - couldn't understand where they stood
Belcher - bloke in a dress, wants to access women's spaces.
Diva woman - woke
Ruth - reasonable person

misscockerspaniel · 18/10/2018 23:01

Missed most of it but caught Ruth saying about women's refuges having to be "inclusive" in order to keep their funding.

Hidingtonothing · 18/10/2018 23:02

Yep, I shouted ‘yeah but you’re not saying what those criminal offences are though are you?!’ at the tv at that point hell, might have said fuck off a few times as well Angry

wonderstuff · 18/10/2018 23:02

Classic - what about sport? Well that doesn't affect me! I mean seriously, prisons, hospitals, refuges, sport - all places which must be protected - so say 'nothing to do with GRA' is disingenuous, how can you enforce protections in the equalities act if you allow self-ID in the GRA? I just don't believe, when it actually happens quite often, that there isn't an acceptance that (some) men will seek out opportunities to attack women if they are able to? That we are expected to accept that people can 'feel' the opposite gender and so change sex. I mean what bollocks. I, and every woman I know, meet the criteria for non-gender conforming, but sex is inescapable. A very disappointing piece on newsnight - no mention of men actually attacking women whilst demanding to be treated as women, no mention of the men in prison for sexual assault seeking trans status, no mention of the massive increase in teen referrals to Tavistock.

Now bloody IDS spouting magical thinking on the EU - worlds gone mad.

boatyardblues · 18/10/2018 23:03

Fair summary Velella.

Velella · 18/10/2018 23:03

I thought the film was balanced.

TwistedStitch · 18/10/2018 23:04

I thought it wasn't bad personally. The initial report had the fact that most transwomen never have surgery, AC and the 'get over it' as well as the threats to MPs and refusal of TRAs to debate.

Ruth and Debbie were fab, respectful and factual, DIVA woman was a DIV and HB is the embodiment of how to peak trans viewers.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/10/2018 23:04

If I was trans I would have been throwing things at the screen at the utter pointlessness of Diva wordsalad woman. They also did us a favour by having Aimee on.
Ruth did great.

hellandhairnets · 18/10/2018 23:05

Yeah, I'm really glad Ruth made that point about the funding. And Debbie about who should decide on boundaries.

That Diva woman has not thought anything through at all has she? There needs to be more about who "trans" actually now includes.

Velella · 18/10/2018 23:05

Don't think it matters that they did not mention challenor senior's actual crimes. I'm surprised they mentioned them at all. AC is a GIFT.

LizzieSiddal · 18/10/2018 23:06

Thought that was good.

I’ve noticed the trans advocates no longer tell as many porkies as they used to. They know they’ll be called out, in a nanosecond.

adulthumanandtired · 18/10/2018 23:06

Ruth really is great.

Nicknamesalltaken · 18/10/2018 23:07

I wanted Ruth’s Pip Bunce question answered. It is an important one.

Diva woman was awful. Nothing to say of any substance. Helen has no empathy so no understanding of womanhood.

TwistedStitch · 18/10/2018 23:08

Also I hope people noticed HB's contradiction- single sex spaces won't be affected because they are covered by the equality act but also I'm entitled to enter them because I feel like a woman.

Ruth's face was fab when HB stated that after a year of treatment trans athletes would lose their advantage. I bet many viewers agreed.
