Anyone been following the latest with Sticker woman in Manchester? Last weekend she was busy flyering in the gay village and caused quite an uproar the next day. You can catch up what happened here. It ended up with GMP tweeting in support of 'No Terfs on our Turf.'

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3387573-Greater-Manchester-Police-Pride-Network-supports-No-T-on-our-turf

Yesterday it seemed sticker woman hit back with a couple of strongly worded posters.

Now the TRA types are playing dumb confused about the 'women smell of fish' slur.' I will leave this tweet here because it's unbelievable to me that prominent members of the trans rights movement would be crass enough to make light of this. Women smelling of fish is woman hate 101. It's probably not a good idea to make a load of fish based puns in response is it?

To me this really underlines how these people are not women. Every woman has been made to feel ashamed of her own body and her own odours. This is not funny it just makes them look like misogynistic men.

He’s got a stethoscope and everything.

Shiklah · 15/10/2018 15:01

I am sure that media appointment fees and coveting a spot on TV has nothing to do with Harrops interest in supporting trans women.......... It seems likely he is planning to open a costly advisory service to 'support' schools, hospitals, prisons etc with the changes he he trying to push thru doesn't it?

PersonWithAVulva · 15/10/2018 15:02

funded by right wing anti abortion groups..yeah right. Surely noone believes that bollocks? Hmm I mean, its fairly easy to search for crowd funders by FPFW and see that most of the donations are in small amounts, fivers, tenners, a few fiftys and that. So do these anti abortion groups sit and create thousands of accounts on gofund me so they can donate little amounts until FPFW meet their goal!?

PersonWithAVulva · 15/10/2018 15:04

Also the pretending they don't know that fish has been used as an insult against women since..well forever is just ridiculous. I could ask my stepsons class, year 7 about that and they would know for gods sake! The faux innocence whilst being misogynistic pricks is just ridiculous.

FermatsTheorem · 15/10/2018 15:04

He’s got a stethoscope and everything.

Yes, much as I would like to believe that he bought a toy stethoscope from "Instagram Props R Us", he is (unfortunately for his female patients) a fully qualified doctor.

Having said that he won't be the first raving misogynist to go into medicine - I've met some doozies in my time (and the GP who dealt with students from my all-female college was positively creepy as well as misogynistic... his go-to diagnosis for everything was pregnancy.)

breastfeedingclownfish · 15/10/2018 15:13

And they want us to believe that Jane Fae and Aimee Challenor are women?

The contempt for women from all three is palpable. Disgusting individuals.

hackmum · 15/10/2018 15:14

Surely noone believes that bollocks?

They don't believe it for one moment. The one thing that's become apparent about TRAs is that lying comes to them as naturally as breathing.

On the other hand, great to see little AImee Challenor has bounced back from the trauma of having a convicted paedophile for a father.

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 15:29

Gosh, fish, fishy fanny, fish supper, fishy fingers: all totally mainstream insults against girls and women that I have heard from years ago. I don't know if it is a specific insult from gay men towards lesbians as well, but certainly used by teenage boys about their female peers, and by straight blokes I know as well. Is it something specific that sticker woman is referring to? Either way, Fae's faux innocence about the insult and the subsequent puns are pretty grim in any context.

I have to say, I read that first poster and almost cheered out loud!

LangCleg · 15/10/2018 15:38

Colour me shocked to see bog standard misogyny. They can't even manage a bit of originality, can they?

Sashkin · 15/10/2018 15:49

I’ve only every heard it from gay men, aimed at women as a class. Never heard it from straight men, never heard it directed at anybody specific. Just dismissal of all women as disgusting sub-humans with revolting vulvas.

Obviously NAGMALT/misogynists, but an unpleasantly high number of the ones who are vocal on Twitter seem to be. I seem to remember Stephen Fry tweeting something similar during one of his off periods.

pennydrew · 15/10/2018 15:50

I’m amazed Aimee Challenor is so upbeat considering they’ve claimed to be so traumatised by their pedophile Dad being sent to prison for torture and rape of a little girl. If that were me, I’d not be making sexist jokes on twitter like nothing’s happened.

KOKOagainandagain · 15/10/2018 15:51

I heard it in gay clubs in Manchester over 30 years ago when my presence with friends would be commented on ('I didn't know they let fish in here).

KOKOagainandagain · 15/10/2018 16:00

The best you could hope for was 'fag hag'. The misogyny was staggering. I was allowed access to the Beaumont Society (for research purposes) that met in a pub near Oxford Road and was berated for not being feminine enough. By the end of the night there were a ring of female identifying men around me telling me they were a better woman than I would ever be.

KatVonGulag · 15/10/2018 16:01

Why did they write on the poster "you will not call us fish"?
I've seen just about every term of abuse thrown at us by the TRAs but fish? Fish I've not seen.

Datun · 15/10/2018 16:01

People like Jane Fae are those erstwhile scummy, grubby, ink stained fifth formers resorting to sexist comments, because no one fancies them.

It's no surprise. Incels gonna incel.

FermatsTheorem · 15/10/2018 16:08

The film Tangerine makes much of fish as an insult to women. It's the insult of choice used by the two trans protagonists of the woman they kidnap, beat up and drag round town because it turns out she's been shagging one of the protagonists' pimp/boyfriend. Funnily enough, despite the fact that its major plot device seemed to hinge on two male-bodied individuals meting out physical violence to a much smaller, weaker female character, it met with almost universal critical acclaim.

Its a running joke all the gay men we know think all women smell of fish

when one gay club went to unisex toilets, there was only 1 cubicle ( which was monopoised by gay men having trade ) and a big trough ,

5 of us lesbians dropped our jeans and boxers backed on to the trough and had a wee (we were bursting ) one woman was supposed to hold the door shut , two queens barged in , and ran out screaming FISH ! I was laughing so much I couldn't stop weeing ha ha

Sashkin · 15/10/2018 16:21

Keeping that’s what I meant, sorry if I didn’t explain well. “I didn’t know they let fish in here” == all women as a class are encompassed by the term fish. I’ve never heard “you, personally, smell of fish, but that other woman over there is fine”. It is a misogynist term for all women, not an insult aimed at a specific person.

So closer to terms of racist/homophobic/transphobic abuse than just calling somebody a cunt.

Janie143 · 15/10/2018 16:25

I see Christine Burns MBE joined in

foxyliz26 · 15/10/2018 16:34

Fish is a drag queens spiel for a straight woman really , more commonly known as Fag Hags today

but Straight people shouldn't have any business in Manchesters gay village

that's why its not safe for LESBIANS Saturday NIGHTS

HamiltonCork · 15/10/2018 16:34

It's almost like they don't really view themselves as women at all.

Datun · 15/10/2018 16:36

Well quite. And I'm telling you now, they sure weren't all pescatarians. 😆

KOKOagainandagain · 15/10/2018 16:45

Sash - oh it wasn't personal - it was hatred of women per se that I found so unsettling. Other discrimination pretends to be more nuanced (some of my best friends are ...) and so self-blame is an 'easy' option but this was pure. Like you say, akin to pure racism. Eye opening. I had naively assumed commonality of the experience of oppression. Taught me that identity politics is a pile of crap because men (straight, gay, bi, trans or questioning or whatever) don't allow natal women in their club because they consider all and every woman to be inferior if not subhuman.

KOKOagainandagain · 15/10/2018 17:07

Foxy - would that work with 'white people have no business in ...' or 'black people have no business in ...' or any other social dichotomy - old/young, male/female, able-bodied/disabled etc? With the pinnacle being 'cis'/authentic identified? Or you deserve what you get? Isn't this the mindset that (male) trans activists use to attack women whilst ignoring men? Isn't this just the same old threat?
