Anyone been following the latest with Sticker woman in Manchester? Last weekend she was busy flyering in the gay village and caused quite an uproar the next day. You can catch up what happened here. It ended up with GMP tweeting in support of 'No Terfs on our Turf.'

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3387573-Greater-Manchester-Police-Pride-Network-supports-No-T-on-our-turf

Yesterday it seemed sticker woman hit back with a couple of strongly worded posters.

Now the TRA types are playing dumb confused about the 'women smell of fish' slur.' I will leave this tweet here because it's unbelievable to me that prominent members of the trans rights movement would be crass enough to make light of this. Women smelling of fish is woman hate 101. It's probably not a good idea to make a load of fish based puns in response is it?

To me this really underlines how these people are not women. Every woman has been made to feel ashamed of her own body and her own odours. This is not funny it just makes them look like misogynistic men.

Telling girls they smell fishy as an insult thrown at girls by boys is right back there for me, c1980, much like India Willoughby's comment on Woman's Hour last year that women having hairy legs was dirty.

Is that what's going on here, 1980's boys' insults?

March 2017 Jenni Murray : Jenni Murray: Be trans, be proud — but don’t call yourself a “real woman”
Can someone who has lived as a man, with all the privilege that entails, really lay claim to womanhood? It takes more than a sex change and make-up'
(extract)
"The fury that a male-to-female transsexual could be so ignorant of the politics that have preoccupied women for centuries hit me again last year — 16 years after I had met Carol. This time I was speaking to another trans woman, India Willoughby, who had hit the headlines after appearing on the ITV programme Loose Women.

India held firmly to her belief that she was a “real woman”, ignoring the fact that she had spent all of her life before her transition enjoying the privileged position in our society generally accorded to a man. In a discussion about the Dorchester hotel’s demands that its female staff should always wear make-up, have a manicure and wear stockings over shaved legs, she was perfectly happy to go along with such requirements. There wasn’t a hint of understanding that she was simply playing into the stereotype — a man’s idea of what a woman should be.

We are taught as boys that assertiveness and aggression are good things. There’s a danger, even now, that I’ll act as a man. In a group of women I can become dominant
She described hairy legs on a woman as “dirty”. But hairy legs are not considered dirty in a man. Did she not know that the question of whether a woman should shave her legs or her a rmpits had been a topic of debate among women for an awfully long time? And that to describe a woman who chose not to shave as dirty was insulting and again suggested an ignorance of sexual politics?

Unsurprisingly, my polite and informed line of questioning exposed me to a barrage of criticism on social media. I was a Terf and didn’t understand what Simone de Beauvoir, the author of one of the great feminist tracts, The Second Sex, meant when she wrote: “One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.”

As a matter of fact, I have understood perfectly what de Beauvoir meant ever since I read her as a teenage girl. Her subject was that “second sex”. She used the word sex advisedly." (continues)

this was the article which led to Jenni Murray being publically rebuked by the BBC

Let's not forget Shon Fay and friend calling themselves fish.

Given that that Fae person thinks that domestic murder is just domestic abuse "gone wrong", Challenor lied about what they knew/didn't know with regard to their father's rape and torture of a child and Mr Harrop believes that forcibly marrying girls off at 13 is ok if they're black, I can't say as I'm going to give their puerile feigned ignorance of a well established misogynist insult much credence. The cross section of racism, homophobia and sexism with these men is glaringly obvious, but apparently libfems are cool with it as long as they don't turn on them as well.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/10/2018 17:44

I’m another who went to a lot of gay bars and clubs with my gay male friends in the late 80s, Fish was commonly used to describe women. I had a real shock the first time I heard it. I went to an all girls school, I hadn’t ever heard it used by teenage boys. Lots of other comments and “jokes” about women, their disgusting vaginas etc. Women smell of fish was the most common, including “ if girls are made of sugar and spice why do they smell of tuna fish ?” I had that said to me several times. Also (this is really vile, sorry) “bucket of slugs” used to describe a vagina. I actually feel sick typing that.
The misogyny in gay clubs was worse than in straight ones , in my experience.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/10/2018 17:46

Melanippe - the comments about child marriage weren’t from Harrop. That was a tv doctor.

BiologyIsReal · 15/10/2018 17:58

It's a good job women have better things to do than speculate what gay men might smell of.......

Datun · 15/10/2018 17:59

I'm guessing gay men wouldn't consider a vagina attractive. And the phemerones aren't really selling what they're buying.

I suspect the 'not tonight Josephine', is also completely lost on them.

AnotherBewilderedQuoll · 15/10/2018 18:44

I really don't think an "adult baby" fetishist, with proud online selfies, filling their nappies for their own sexual thrills has much room to be laughing and sneering at anyone other than the person in the mirror.

GoldenBuns · 15/10/2018 19:22

Showing themselves up for what they very clearly are.

These people sell themselves as politicians, journalists, broadcasters. I see sniggering little boys.

irishfeminist · 15/10/2018 19:31

The lovely Janet Mock was going to call their memoir "Fish Food". But no, it's not misogynistic at ALL to use the word and Janet is our SISTER

That was a tv doctor.

Yes. The famously misogynistic Dr Christian.

Trinity1976 · 15/10/2018 19:39

It's almost like they don't really view themselves as women at all.

Yes, they do a fairly shite impression of women. Not convincing at all.

AnotherBewilderedQuoll · 15/10/2018 19:41

As Germaine said, it's grotesque parody.

Beagadorsrock · 15/10/2018 20:01

The film Tangerine makes much of fish as an insult to women. It's the insult of choice used by the two trans protagonists of the woman they kidnap, beat up and drag round town because it turns out she's been shagging one of the protagonists' pimp/boyfriend. Funnily enough, despite the fact that its major plot device seemed to hinge on two male-bodied individuals meting out physical violence to a much smaller, weaker female character, it met with almost universal critical acclaim.

I remember that film being discussed on here, and I went and watched the trailer and was appropriately horrified. Some would say, 'peaktransed'.

I wonder if the fact that Linehan has shone some light on these people and their uncanny similarity with the Gamergate crowd, has made them cockier in appealing to their core 'incel' constituency, with those dog whistles. A bit like Trump, out-Trumping himself once it became clear that he is the [insert insult of choice] that he is

Thank you stickerwoman for standing up for women. Flowers
Its disgusting that so many gay spaces have become hostile to lesbians over this issue. How fucking dare they remove these spaces from women.

ChattyLion · 15/10/2018 20:53

Noodle Holy shit. Shock that Dr Christian tweet.

ginandbearit · 15/10/2018 20:53

Golly they better be careful ..Anyone would think that the good Doctors wanted to pave the way for sex with children to become acceptable in white European culture ..I mean how far from the equator does CSA become unacceptable ?

Was there not something about Dr Christian and showing porn in schools?

foxyliz26 · 16/10/2018 00:40

KeepOnKeepingOnAgainandAgain

Its all about spaces , We all used to love to go up to Manchester gay scene at weekends , but its not safe for lesbians in Manchesters gay village at weekends now certain gay pubs and clubs are full of straight people , and its straight men hitting on lesbians or causing fights with our butch girlfriends

both me and Jo were married to men decades ago, , we don't hate men , , we just don't want them hitting on us

to the point lesbians feel really unsafe , its ridiculous , the gay village full of Stag and Hen, do,s not to supports gay people ,

even down here in Birmingham many bars are now letting straight couples in Not To support us

a few Lesbian FB groups have had get togethers , in supposedly gay clubs , where single straight men start hitting on lesbians, recently the butch women have blocked these straight cruising guys from hitting on the more feminine women , its not nice for my boyish girlfriend to have to fight just for us to have a dance or for us to be intimate in our own spaces

which is why we introduced women only dinner partys at each others houses , at least we know our straight female friends , are respecting us ,

they know their husbands/boyfriends arent welcome, but it hasn't stopped one friends boyfriend wanting to know what we do, we laugh, debate the issues like on here, and have some great nights

A quick look at the medical register threw up something more interesting than the basic public details of this trainee GP.

The Post-graduate Dean, Professor Kumar, named as the responsible officer for the Northern Deanery in England on the GMC site, cannot be unaware of his views, can she?

Babdoc · 16/10/2018 09:11

Can we refer Harrop to the GMC for bringing the profession into disrepute? His social media comments are a disgrace - no doctor should be publicly telling women to fuck off.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/10/2018 09:18

RE The comments from Jane Faye, AC, etc, envy is a sad thing to witness, isn't it?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 16/10/2018 09:25

I've wondered for a while what the situation is that the GMC haven't reacted. There must be one, since bringing the profession into disrepute and breaches of conduct have been flung around like confetti, and very publicly. The man's certainly made himself unemployable, and doesn't seem to be worried about it.
