Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

What are we asking for after the consultation ends?

When the consultation ends on Friday what do we begin to campaign for? Further consultation which actually seeks women’s views without them being shouted down? Or straight to lobbying for self-ID not to be proposed in the Commons?

We need to ensure that EA is being applied correctly at the local government level. We need to continue to hold meetings and raise public awareness, putting pressure on MPs. Keep the momentum up - the dam is about to burst.

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 11:53

All of the above but also the by stealth, ahead of the law changes that have been going on all over the place.

Even if self ID is scrapped so many places have been acting as if it is already law for quite some time. We need to reassert single sex exemptions as the meaningful category that they are.

Women's sport for example is already being royally fucked without any official self ID laws.

arranfan · 15/10/2018 11:55

Yes - we need all of the changes made in error, based on that faulty EA guidance, and in fear/advance of the law/loss of funding, to be walked back.

UpstartCrow · 15/10/2018 11:58

I also want to see the Equality Act amended to ringfence women only spaces and services. They should remain women only by default, and they should not have to defend that on a 'case by case' basis.

Ereshkigal · 15/10/2018 11:59

Yes, totally agree with UpstartCrow.

PencilsInSpace · 15/10/2018 12:04

Strengthening of EA exceptions, including ditching 'case-by-case' from the statutory code.

Investigate Mermaids and other dodgy children's charities.

Review Govt. spending on Stonewall etc.

Review safeguarding guidance used by NSPCC, girlguiding etc.

Full, open-ended (i.e. no specific goals), wide reaching consultation on sex, gender, sexual orientation, balancing of rights. Government to do whatever is needed to ensure nobody is silenced or intimidated. Design consultation with women's groups.

I believe there is a consultation on SRE we need to look at that closes a couple of weeks after this one. Don't have the details to hand.

Trousered · 15/10/2018 12:09

Completely agree, prove to me a man is a woman on a case by case basis, you bunch of fucking armpits.

The people that put make up on an 11 year old boy on tv and tell us he's a girl now are not the people I am going to listen to telling me I have to pretend men are women.

thatdamnwoman · 15/10/2018 12:15

The repeal of the GRA and its replacement with a more stringent, longer process designed to weed out the Karen Whites and Jacinta Brooks and Jess Bradleys of the trans world.

The dismantling of Stonewall as representing the rights of lesbian and gay people and the establishment of new gay and lesbian and bi groups.

Strengthening of the Equalities Act so that organisations and groups have the right to enforce women-only policies. Possibly some form of legislation making it impossible for a group actively campaigning for one interest group (say, trans) to make donations to organisations set up to support other groups (women) on the basis that trans people must be included.

Stringent checks on doctors working with trans-identified individuals. I know a woke GP who goes from one 'look what a hero I am' client group to another. First they won awards for their work with HIV+ men, then more public acclaim for a relatively short stint working with refugees, now off training to be Dr Harrop and last seen waving a Transwomen are Women banner at a Pride somewhere this summer. The idea of being a good local GP, dealing with tedious everyday medical problems appalls them. They are an arch self-publicist and always on the lookout for glory.

gendercritter · 15/10/2018 12:17

I want the GRA repealed. No more nonsense that anyone can change sex. Women's spaces must be women only.

naivetyisthenewblack · 15/10/2018 12:30

Ideally we need legal challenges that bring practical applications of selfID up against existing safeguarding related laws, to expose the dangerous lack of safeguarding.

The laws concerning safeguarding are well established; clumsy lawmaking on self ID - or companies and organisations overstepping the legal mark on self ID - won't stand a chance in court.

But - how to get them there? No idea.

theOtherPamAyres · 15/10/2018 12:34

The withdrawal of government guidance on how to interpret the Equality Act (gender reassignment)

The guidance was responsible for decisions and policies by The Girl Guides, Prison Authorities, the Police, Local Authorities, the NHA, Topshop and others. The guidance still drives organisations, charities and public bodies to put the wants and desires of transgender people before the lawful rights of women.

Self i/d by stealth

arranfan · 15/10/2018 12:38

More perspicuity
Less ambiguity

My modest proposal for reform of EA guidance.

Badgerthebodger · 15/10/2018 12:40

I’d like to know more about funding for refuges and try to find a way it could be ringfenced and guaranteed to increase in line with inflation. I want to know where the “tampon tax” money has gone, to the absolute last penny. Ideally, I’d like to strengthen the equality act so women’s services are protected from any further discussions which mean they would have to include men. I then want to have something (no idea what!!) to prop up and support refuges to enforce the equality act. I feel like that’s come out a bit jumbled sorry Blush

theOtherPamAyres · 15/10/2018 12:40

When the Government says 'No changes to the Equality Act', they must think we are stupid.

There must be changes to the gender reassignment provision otherwise you might as well say that transwomen are women.

ThePrincipal · 15/10/2018 12:45

Repeal the GRA altogether.

Abolish the use of the word gender.

There is only sex, which is binary.

thatdamnwoman · 15/10/2018 12:46

Yes, Bodger, it was refuges I had in mind: the 'Here's £100,000 for your desperately underfunded women's organisation with the proviso that you open your doors to transwomen.'

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/10/2018 12:46

Focus on Labour.

ThePrincipal · 15/10/2018 12:47

Align the word gender with sex in all spheres to avoid ambiguity.

There must be NO transgender propaganda within schools in the guise of tolerance.

ThePrincipal · 15/10/2018 12:49

Make the deliberate mixing up of gender and sex a hate crime similar to ‘misgendering’ or using the wrong pronoun.

Investigate Labour and Green Party for such deliberate lies and deception.

LangCleg · 15/10/2018 12:50

Everything Pencils said.

There are years of work ahead, sister. This is going to take more than a decade to unpick.

State sponsored blackmail.

Badgerthebodger · 15/10/2018 13:11

YY ThePrincipal. I don’t think ANY lobby groups, for any reason should be allowed into schools. I think PSHE or whatever it’s called should be a proper subject, delivered by a science teacher. It surely should be a given that no child is taught absolute nonsense about being in the wrong body, or being able to change sex. Those dreadful books which are being published that are aimed at children and reinforcing disgusting stereotypes need to be stopped as well. Also, no government funding for the likes of Mermaids.

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 13:17

Yes Badger. This video from WPUK Sheffield is well worth a watch. I got chills when she talks about how much unprecedented access self interested groups have been given to children via schools.
