"Seems like word as gone out that “ kind” is the new woke word. "

We use it in Early Years, littlebrowndog:

Kind hands, kind feet. For toddlers who are hitting and kicking.

LangCleg · 11/10/2018 11:10

I'm deeply suspicious of people pushing the "now now, we must be moderate and reasonable" line when we've had years of that and got nowhere, and it was when things like Man Friday and Posie's various efforts got going that we actually started gaining some tractions.

This.

I feel no obligation to be deferential to the BBC or to Sophie Cook. Anyone demanding that I should be is no friend to women's rights.

MrsSnippyPants · 11/10/2018 11:11

I went to bed fuming and woke up still fuming. I keep saying to myself 'is it me?' and then I come here and am reassured that it really isn't.
Complaint sent.

ChiaraRimini · 11/10/2018 11:12

I am appalled that this is the best the BBC can do. 10 days before the consultation closes. This has really opened my eyes to how biased the BBC can be.

Procrastinator1 · 11/10/2018 11:19

I'm afraid people like Trump and Aaron Banks have shown that being moderate and reasonable doesn't always work.

rightreckoner · 11/10/2018 11:22

I've complained. The BBC shock me every day and I have been a staunch defender of theirs. Nothing Sophie Cook does shocks me - narcissist and self publicist.

Elephantinacravat · 11/10/2018 11:22

There is so much wrong with the interview but the fucking blatant racism is just.... I cant even.

How dare Sophie Cook say that women of colour aren't included in the definition of 'woman'. How frigging racist do you have to be that you will use women of colour so casually in that way to prop your own fucked up agenda.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/10/2018 11:29

Hold on why have I been deleted?

I've only been deleted once before I think in 12 years on MN..

Don't get it.

Can't be misgendering as loads on here are saying the same thing re men chatting.

So what is it then?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/10/2018 11:30

eg ALL of this

"Destinysdaughter Wed 10-Oct-18 23:06:38
Where’s the fucking balance BBC??

Wheres the bloody WOMEN??

Add message | Report | Message poster littlbrowndog Wed 10-Oct-18 23:06:56
Why no women on this wtaf

Add message | Report | Message poster WTFisawomxn Wed 10-Oct-18 23:07:02
Yup. Another one for the bias thread, then.

He just let Sophie tell him all about women
And he did a special soft fecking voice to Sophie

Add message | Report | Message poster chickenloverwoman Wed 10-Oct-18 23:08:36
I've just watched this. No "natal" woman available to appear as well, for some balance?

Add message | Report | Message poster ErrolTheDragon Wed 10-Oct-18 23:09:57
Who knows how to do the complaints thing well?
I didn't see it myself but not having an actual woman to discuss the mangling of the word 'woman' is beyond belief.

Why were they talking about 'womyn', is anyone using that now?"

So why have I been singled out for deletion @mnhq

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/10/2018 11:31

The idea that woman excludes women of colour makes no sense at all given the existence of womanism as a less white-centred alternative to feminism.

I can only imagine this has been whipped up as another way to attack the word woman just as the bans on 'adult human female' adverts are.

StroppyWoman · 11/10/2018 11:31

I want to shop where the transwomen shop.
Their dresses give them magical powers of awards, careers as consultants and media spokespeople. Stunning and brave dresses.
My dresses stop me being naked. I want one of those career enhancing frocks, please.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 11/10/2018 11:34

So now the transactivists are targeting race too...

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:35

At the risk of getting deleted, can my career enhancing frock be a bit more fashionable? There are only so many sacrifices I'm willing to make for the sake of getting ahead.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/10/2018 11:37

"SC says feminists invented the word and happily used it "

BUT THEN went on to say it was for non binary people

So NOT feminists at all then

They can't even keep their own stories straight

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:39

In a different thread I suggested that TRAs may keep a spreadsheet in order to keep track of all the lies they tell. If they don't yet then you're welcome for the suggestion!

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 11:43

Just told Dh about this.
His response was “This is getting fucking sinister now”. And I agree.

Elephantinacravat · 11/10/2018 11:44

I have complained. I'm on a roll this week!

Floisme · 11/10/2018 11:44

I always thought ‘womyn’ was a Private Eye pisstake (which my phone keeps trying to change into pusstake). And I was around in the 70s.

Cwenthryth · 11/10/2018 11:45

in part because of problems transwomen faces, simply for being trans-women, the Sophie Cooks, Lily Maddigans and Amy Challenors seem to be financially reliant on media fees and diversity consultancies.*

We’re veering off-topic here, but what do you mean that these people rely on media fees/diversity consultancy because of ‘problems that transwomen face simply for being transwomen’? It seems to imply that transwomen face specific hurdles when accessing employment - could you expand?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/10/2018 11:45

"The idea that woman excludes women of colour"

I am pretty sure this comes from the USA
And in particular the suffrage movement over there

"Women of colour" is itself a very USA phrase to my ear.

Even given that, the word women has never been defined anywhere in the world to exclude certain types of cunty people, despite the fact of various groups of people at different times (men lots of the time, white people lots of the time) trying to say that certain women were not real women and in fact in the racsim situation it was not woman specific surely > it applied to men as well.

Charliethefeminist · 11/10/2018 11:46

That was wimmin

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 11:47

"They have to be grifters" made me roll my eyes a bit.

Pippa Bunce seems to be doing OK.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 11/10/2018 11:53

I don't see how Feminism is ever "white centered"? Confused Or "middle class" (the other thing it's always accused of it seems.)
It's just that certain people find it hard to believe that anyone who isn't white and wealthy could have the intelligence to care about feminism. Which is in itself incredibly bigoted-and also wrong!

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 11/10/2018 11:53

That was to countess btw

numptynuts · 11/10/2018 11:57

Just told Dh about this.
His response was “This is getting fucking sinister now”. And I agree

My husband made me jump this morning. He was reading an article on this quietly then shouted at the top of his voice:

"Transwomen are NOT women! FUCK OFF"

He's getting really angry about it now and also thinks it's sinister and dangerous, very dangerous.
