"Statement from Woman’s Place UK on a meeting with Dawn Butler on 28 March

Some representatives from Woman’s Place UK attended a short initial meeting with Dawn Butler, the shadow minister for women and equalities, with some other feminists on 28 March, to discuss the concerns of women about the status of women in the Labour Party and the proposals to ‘self-identify’ one’s sex.

We are extremely alarmed to see that details of this meeting, including the names of attendees, have been leaked to Pink News, a news website that has been hostile for some time to women campaigning for their rights to be upheld. One of the concerns raised at the meeting with Dawn Butler was the intimidation, threats, physical violence and harassment that women face when campaigning on this issue.

The leaking of the names of women to Pink News is an act of gross irresponsibility, and a huge breach of trust.

This was a tentative start of a dialogue with women about legislation that affects women, which has now been misrepresented by Pink News as an ‘anti-trans’ meeting. We believe the leaking of the details of the meeting, and the names of attendees, is an attempt to wreck this dialogue.

There must be an investigation into the source of this leak, and an immediate apology to the women who participated in good faith."

But that's over 6 months ago. Was it investigated ? And if not why not ?

Dawn Butler MP (Shadow Minister for Women & Equalities) indebted to some gay men:

Daily Mail:
'Equalities tsar Anthony Watson issues rallying cry to unite LGBT+ community'
(extract)
Mr Watson, a tech entrepreneur, who chairs Dawn Butler MP's diversity board, wrote a letter calling on lesbian, gay and bi-sexual people to stand shoulder to shoulder with transgender people.

The equalities tsar wrote: 'I am writing this letter alongside many other gay men of different privileges. Just as lesbians have shown their support through #LWithTheT we now stand in public solidarity with our trans siblings.

'As gay men we have watched in horror at the cruelty inflicted upon the trans community. We are outraged. The most vulnerable people in our society are marginalised, scared and endangered. Trans communities, and in particular trans children, are under attack on a daily basis.

'What do trans people want? They want the right to live their lives in peace, to be free from violence and discrimination, and to enjoy equal protection under the law.

'What they want, in short, are the same basic protections and rights we as gay men enjoy.'

He added: 'Every gay man owes, in no small part, the rights and privileges we now enjoy to the courage and sacrifice of our trans siblings who came before. Now we must stand alongside them as they lead the fight for theirs.'

Speaking about the letter, Mr Watson said: 'LGBT+ people are already seen as a minority in British society. We have to fight harder than anyone else for our voices to be heard and to be taken seriously.

'There has been a lot of noise recently around the nature of gender versus sexual orientation. I want to be absolutely clear: trans men are men. Trans women are women. Trans rights are human rights.

'I have issued an open letter, which has the support of influential names from the LGBT+ community, to express our solidarity with trans people and their fight for equality." (continues)

yet seems to ignore others.... Hmm

Jonathan Best article in response
'Watch out, gay men  -  the women are coming to get you'
(extract)
According to Watson, trans communities are denied the ‘basic protections and rights we as gay men enjoy.’ (Watson doesn’t specify what these ‘basic protections and rights’ are).

He makes a powerful plea for allyship:

We, as gay men, must stand with them. Being an ally requires more than passive support. Today’s transphobia is yesterday’s recycled homophobia. We all remember and feel the impact of the pernicious Section 28.
And because he’s not a man to do things by halves, he shoehorns in a Nazi Germany reference:

We are reminded of Martin Niemöller’s poem “First they came for the for the…”
In case any of his readers haven’t got the point yet, he pushes it home with a chilling warning:

Transphobic people aren’t just coming for trans rights; they’re coming for all of us.
So who are these dangerous, vindictive transphobic people  -  and, more importantly, how the hell can we stop them?

I know who they are.

They’re the women who have been abused or raped by men and are now terrified of being in close proximity to a male-bodied person.

They’re the young lesbians who don’t understand why they’re made to feel shame for excluding male-bodied people from their dating pool.

They’re the frightened parents of children who have been rushed into taking puberty blockers because some clinicians are being bullied by a small number of aggressive transgender activists.

They’re the transsexual community, demonised because they don’t believe that ‘trans women are women’ and ‘trans men are men.’

They’re people who want to be sure that women in prison are safe  - safer than the victims of Karen White were.

They’re the feminists who want to be able to describe their oppression as they choose to describe it, without having their terminology and their politics checked by woke men.

They’re the women who just want to call themselves women  -  and not bleeders, menstruators, cis, non-trans or any other term selected by others.

According to Watson, these are the people who are coming after your rights, gay men." (continues)

Jonathan Best's reply is beautiful

Dawn Butler believes that gender dysphoria is just a neutral characteristic like race.
I wonder how much she got paid for reciting lyrics from The Greatest Showman at that conference.

From the 'We're Still Here Conference' (link above) organised by Jane Fae,
OP TheHarpySings who attended wrote:

"3) Keynote Speech: Dawn Butler MP: Shadow Women & Equalities

This speech was fucking cringe. She said she was an ally of LGBT but had got a lot of messages moaning at her for “betraying women”. “Despite the fact I AM a woman.”

She mentioned all the countries that have self ID (RoI, Argentina, Malta, Norway). Apparently she’d been to Malta recently and it was “really chill.”

She blames the Tories for allowing this debate to drag on. “It is cruel.”

The impact of self ID are “non existent”. She said if this had been done swiftly there would be none of the current fuss or transphobia.

She said

  1. the LGBT community needs to mobilise
  2. They need to contribute to the consultation
  3. They need to change the tone of the debate (lolercaust)

She also went on to say that a “phobia” is an irrational fear and there are three treatments:

  1. Hypnosis
  2. Talking therapy
  3. Immersion therapy

Apparently the only way forward to deal with transphobia is talking therapy. DB said that the conservation needs to be around counties that already have self ID and it’s “fine”

Hilariously, given that the audience contained fucking Dr Harrop, she said something like “keyboard warriors don’t know the consequences of their actions.”

DB: “Labour will champion the unheard.”

She said that this was another form of Section 28 on the trans community.

She then quoted at length from a song from “The Greatest Showman”. I wish I was making that up.

Also, she got cornered by Mermaids reps on the way out and is meeting with them and their kids soon."(continues)

The Independent also contained an article written by Yas Necati whose pro-TRA reporting bias has been discussed on a number of previous threads:

Shock Absolutely shameful treatment of women by Dawn Butler.

ThePurportedDoctoress · 15/03/2019 19:38

What really pisses me off is the way Penny Mordaunt and Dawn Butler as Minister and Shadow Minister for Women enable each other to carry on ignoring women, and all the other women MPs stay silent. They can't all be as clueless, surely?

I think many have been really successfully lobbied/ manipulated/ briefed.

Its a serious cross-party issue and the focus needs to include those who have been exerting so much power behind the scenes for so long.
