This is so fucked. Sorry I'm not more eloquent.

Charley50 · 10/10/2018 12:42

"Oh come on Ova

I'm sure someone blowing £14,000 on showing Dawn Butler the bright lights of LA and taking her to a prominent trans award ceremony has had no impact whatsoever on any decisions she has made since then

stop being so cynical"

Lol. But seriously, these tactics (as linked to on another thread) are pure and sinister grooming.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 10/10/2018 12:46

I might have made mention of her paid trip to Cali and GLAAD needing to be paid for in kind in my email to her.

Maybe we should crowdfund £14,000 to pay Dawn Butler to go to this event - in her own place of work and on the topic she's supposed to cover. Or does she only go to events in LA?

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 10/10/2018 13:12

Maybe we should think about running a candidate at the next General Election against whichever MP has betrayed women the most badly whilst furthering their own career.
We wouldn't win but we could certainly be in with a chance of influencing the vote enough to make the sitting MP lose their seat.

Fairenuff · 10/10/2018 13:27

I would vote for anyone prepared to make this a priority in government and really listen to and think about the very valid concerns raised by women regarding their safety and dignity.

I also think we desperately need a legal ruling on what the word woman means. It's so stupid that we can't even understand each other and the law because of this.

Yes. And we need a word that exclusively defines those of us born into female bodies. Without that there is no way of even describing conflicting rights and interests between male-bodied and female-bodied people, let alone enforcing them in law or day to day.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 10/10/2018 13:36

I love the idea of offering Dawn Butler £14,000 to attend a meeting with a women's group

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 13:39

Dawn Butler's speech in House of Commons during special session on homophobia, biphobia and transphobia referred to a social media platform 'calling for a new section 28'.

Whilst this was not named, it is a common mistake /propaganda spread by some TRAs that Mumsnet FWR 'called for a new section 28'. This was based on the blog written by intern Emma Healy who breached data from Mumsnet.

This claim has been heavily promoted by the LibDem LGBT+ Twitter account believed to be controlled in part by Sarah Brown & Zoe O'Connell (also both of Stonewall's trans advisory group)
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3263172-Andrew-Gilligan-Latest-bullying-transgender-complaint-swiftly-rejected-by-parliamentary-standards-committee

In it she took a sarcastic post written by a poster who was supportive of trans rights and out of context, suggested this was the view of members here.

Dawn Butler recently speaking at a conference arranged by Jane Fae:
(extract)
"Minority groups must stand together in the fight for one another's rights, the shadow secretary of state for women has said.

Dawn Butler used her keynote speech at the UK's first transgender conference, titled #StillHere, to speak of the importance of solidarity in the effort to advance transgender rights.

“I know that after this I’m going to get quite a lot of abuse,” the Labour MP said on Saturday, “but it’s nothing compared to what you get on a daily basis.”

This is what I learnt from talking to an anti-trans campaigner
She said: “You have to know that there is a flood of voices behind you… that’s here to stand up and support and stick up for your rights. Because without your rights I can’t have my rights and I quite like my rights and I’m still struggling to get my full rights."

“We have to fight for each other,” she added.

The conference aimed to provide a space where transgender people and allies could discuss prominent issues and network with one another.

Journalist and campaigner Jane Fae, who had the initial idea for the event, said she also hoped to “provide a boost to community spirits … after a year of unprecedented hostility towards the trans community.” (continues)

I propose we offer her an all expenses paid weekend in Blackpool to see the illuminations plus a special MN award for Totally Exceptional Radical Feministing.

All she has to do is attend the meeting.

Do we think she'll go for it? Grin

I'm writing to Dawn Butler. Can anyone inform me what the meeting is on October 16th?

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 10/10/2018 13:58

This is the response I received back from Dawn Butler's office:

"Dear XXXXX",

"Thank you for your email."

"I can confirm that Dawn has met with Women’s Place UK in the past, earlier this year to be exact, and other women’s groups who have voiced their concerns to proposed changes to the GRA."

"Just because Dawn is unable to attend this meeting it does not mean that she has not considered all the wide ranging views on this issue, and she continues to do."

"We continue to recognise the importance of women-only spaces. We would seek to ensure that the government implement comprehensive policies and guidance to ensure the safety of women in female only spaces. We are happy to engage with reasonable concerns but the answer should never be to automatically exclude trans people."

Unfortunately MY reasonable concern is to automatically exclude male people. The hell with every single one of them in female spaces.

Does anyone know whether Dawn really has met with WPUK, not that they are the same thing as FPFW?

Details on Fairplay 4 Women
Its an open meeting for MPS to meet with FP4W, WPUK and TransgenderTRend.

THere's a thread asking people to invite their MPs.

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 14:01

"I can confirm that Dawn has met with Women’s Place UK in the past, earlier this year to be exact, and other women’s groups who have voiced their concerns to proposed changes to the GRA."

Didn't something happen when Dawn Butler met with women earlier in the year?
I have a memory of something bad....

OvaHere · 10/10/2018 14:04

Following the meeting with Dawn names of individual women were leaked to Pink News.

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 14:05

Yes, that was it. Really bad!

Redkeyboard · 10/10/2018 14:13

This is interesting:

"We continue to recognise the importance of women-only spaces. We would seek to ensure that the government implement comprehensive policies and guidance to ensure the safety of women in female only spaces. We are happy to engage with reasonable concerns but the answer should never be to automatically exclude trans people."

No one is advocating for trans people who are female to be excluded from female spaces. Is what they mean to say ‘the answer should never be to exclude males’

Redkeyboard · 10/10/2018 14:13

Sorry ‘automatically exclude males’

R0wantrees · 10/10/2018 14:16

We are happy to engage with reasonable concerns but the answer should never be to automatically exclude trans people."

As Redkey says this is ambiguous and female spaces would not exclude females who identify as transmen. My understanding though is however that current law does allow in some situations the exclusion of males, including those transwomen with GRC?

Floisme · 10/10/2018 14:32

Dawn Butlers office tells Bitter (a constituent?) that she ‘is unable to attend’ but tells Harrop (not in her constituency) that she ‘is having no involvement with this meeting.’

Not quite the same thing.
At least have the intelligence or the courtesy to get your story straight, Dawn Butler. Words matter.
