Just FFS. Bloody nail in the Labour coffin.

The use of the word ‘that’ in that meeting shows disdain, hatred, othering. We are the people she is meant to represent. Traitor to her sex.

DontCisgenderMe · 10/10/2018 11:28

So, the Minister for Women and the Shadow Minister for Women both refuse to meet with women's groups, to discuss women's concerns, and publicly support misogynists instead.

What do they think their jobs actually entail? Wasn't there a big clue in the name?

Badgerthebodger · 10/10/2018 11:32

Oh DO fuck off Harrop with your gigantic ego and insistence that you, a gay man, are allowed to charge about haranguing people about issues pertaining to women and trans people when you are neither of those fucking things. God he makes me rage. Mostly I do ok then I read something like this where neither the actual minister nor the shadow minister FOR WOMEN will go to a meeting, a meeting FFS, in case it upsets the menz feelz. Just fucking argggghhhhgh

Needmoresleep · 10/10/2018 11:33

Don't forget though that Dr Adrian is a MAN.

Who else would a Shadow Minister for Women listen to......

AbsintheFriends · 10/10/2018 11:34

I can understand so well why the suffragettes resorted to civil unrest. The absolute head-against-wall hopelessness of trying to campaign peacefully and democratically against such wilful prejudice is so fucking wearing.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 10/10/2018 11:42

I have always been Labour or Green and can now not vote for either of them, nor the Lib Dems. It would be a cold day in hell when I vote for Tory, so it’s a spoiled ballot for me again if another general election is called.

How is it that so many of us are politically homeless?

I’ve emailed my Labour M.P. about the meeting on the 16th and he has totally ignored it, which is no surprise as he is a total woke dudebro, it is unfathamonable to me that it is Tory men that are now “fighting our corner”. What the actual living fuck is going on.

Badgerthebodger · 10/10/2018 11:47

I just can’t get my head round what is so threatening about a meeting? I mean I can but wtf. They might hear some facts? They might be a bit upset by those facts? Even if they disagree with said facts, wouldn’t this be an opportunity to go and put forward a polite, persuasive argument to convince all us wrong wims of your position? No. Silly me. They would rather resort to name-calling, scaremongering and accusations of bigotry Hmm

We are constantly told that the reason so many ministers are privately educated doesn’t matter - they are the cream of the crop and have all the brains and therefore are able to make high level decisions on behalf of the country. I would expect a basic level of reading and critical thinking skills, and at the very bare minimum a requirement for impartiality.

Never has it been so obvious why we need things like all women shortlists to be actually all women, as well as removing barriers for other minorities to get into politics. We desperately need some common sense and people who are actually able to assess a situation and stand up for what is right rather than capitulate to bullies on Twitter.

littlbrowndog · 10/10/2018 11:50

Do one harrop. You have only “ friends on twitter”

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 10/10/2018 11:54

I've just emailed Dawn Butler and told her precisely what I think of her and that I will be actively campaigning against her re-election when the time comes. She's a bloody disgrace to her sex

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 10/10/2018 11:58

"I can understand so well why the suffragettes resorted to civil unrest. The absolute head-against-wall hopelessness of trying to campaign peacefully and democratically against such wilful prejudice is so fucking wearing."

Yep, me too. I can feel a spot of massive civil disobedience coming on.

KERALA1 · 10/10/2018 11:59

Chilling.

Who the flump are we supposed to vote for? Tories?!?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 10/10/2018 12:02

I do think that if the reforms to the GRA are passed the only way forward will be civil disobedience

genuinely

it's a bit of a worry - I don't especially want a police record!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 10/10/2018 12:03

Who the flump are we supposed to vote for? Tories?!?

except they're the ones who started this cluster fuck

but I tell you, if they grow a pair and tell the cluster B's to get back in their box, then yes, I probably would vote Tory at the next GE

Badstyley · 10/10/2018 12:05

Bad eyes so I can’t see the screen shots. Could somebody summarise for me please. Somebody asked me on FB why I’m so pissed off with Labour this morning so these might be exactly the thing to post to illustrate why, but obvs I can’t if I don’t know what they say.

Thank you in advance.

Fairenuff · 10/10/2018 12:11

There have been many posts recently from lurkers who are coming out as shocked and distressed at the way women are being so badly let down by so many of our institutions.

Many are starting to write to their MPs and to put the word out. Many people still do not know what is happening and continue to believe 'it will never happen' even though it already has.

These public figures who show their true colours now are riding the wave of current wokeness. They are too shallow to see how they can so easily crash as more and more of the general public get to hear about how our government are trying to change laws that affect everyone in our country, by stealth.

It will be very hard for DB to come back from this when the tide turns. Women won't trust her and the men that are using her now to push their own agenda will have no interest once she stops being of use to them.

Silly woman.

NoSquirrels · 10/10/2018 12:14

Bad

Adrian Harrop emailed Dawn Butler's office about the meeting in the HoC on 16th October with Dr Nic Williams et al about women's rights concerns over GRA reform.

James May, office manager at Dawn Butler's office replied:

"I can confirm that Dawn is having no imvolvement with that meeting and continues to be a staunch ally of the Trans community."

So there you do. Trans more important than women.

NoSquirrels · 10/10/2018 12:18

I just CANNOT understand Penny Mordaunt and Dawn Butler and all the other women politicians who are SO dismissive of even listening to the opposing viewpoint on this.

They are supposed to represent women - ALL women. They are choosing to ignore any women who disagree with one viewpoint.

If they'd just go to the meetings, engage with the arguments, that would be different. But they're all doing the equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears and pretending if they repeat something long enough it will become true. Magical thinking.

FFS.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 10/10/2018 12:20

"I do think that if the reforms to the GRA are passed the only way forward will be civil disobedience"

"genuinely"

"it's a bit of a worry - I don't especially want a police record!"

Nor do I, especially having a Met Police detective in my close family! But you know what? I'm in my 60s, I've had my life and I'm getting really bloody close to not giving a fuck

numptynuts · 10/10/2018 12:22

That narcissistic little arsehole has peaked me again. I've just emailed my local MP.

charlestonchaplin · 10/10/2018 12:22

I will vote for whoever is willing to quash this 'reform'. I think the Tories are our best shot. They can kick it into the long grass by declaring themselves too busy dealing with Brexit. Hopefully the DUP will also be a stumbling block to implementing any changes. They don't need their votes for this issue but for other issues they (DUP) may be important. I still remember the posters telling me the Government wouldn't touch this. It wouldn't happen. Ha!

zen1 · 10/10/2018 12:28

I’m sick of Harrop and his controlling, bullying tactics. As for Butler, she’s a disgrace.

GoldenWonderwall · 10/10/2018 12:29

Does she not realise that once she has outlived her usefulness to the Adrians of the world, she’ll be painted as a terf and expected to stfu with all the rest of the vagina bearers or whatever horrendous name will be given to the ones that do the shit work and bear children.

TransposersArePosers · 10/10/2018 12:32

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly

If you mean the current state of affairs, yes it is the Tories fault. But the GRA was passed under Tony Blair's Labour government. Interesting thread here

As someone said on that thread, who'd have thought Norman Tebbit and Ann Widdecombe would be people who raised the concerns that are coming to fruition now?

I am really pissed off that neither Dawn Butler nor Penny Mordaunt want to fulfil the Women's Minister part of their roles.

JackyHolyoake · 10/10/2018 12:32

Well, sisters ... come election time we women should descend on Brent constituency and let voters that electorate know about their MPs attitude towards women voters. She is "Shadow Secretary of State
for Women and Equalities" .. but only supporting those women who are men.

LangCleg · 10/10/2018 12:33

Dawn - if you think Adrian wouldn't ever cut off your finger, I can assure you that he would.
